Why are we freaking out actually?

Did anyone think we were going to win a championship this year?

The game wasn't a total loss in my mind. I think the recruits will be impressed with how ND fought back. I think some of them will be drooling that we CLEARLY have a need for some of their services.

I think Gunner Kiel might have liked what he saw actually. ND clearly has a need at QB, and unlike IU, we have pieces of the puzzle already in place.

It was a good atmosphere as well. I don't think losing means we won't have a chance with those recruits.

I didn't think we were gonna win a championship this year but what does that have to do with losing today?

I'm not freaking out. I don't think that many people are freaking out compared to the Michigan game. I mean, I was freaking out then.

3 Losses = 13 turnovers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty F%&#ing simple!!! Especially when all three today ended in points. I know the last did not, but USC ran out the clock when it would have been points.

Both our QB's had 7 point turnovers!! Even so, the last INT by Rees was really UGLY. He had a wide open Jonas come out of the backfield and never looked at him. So SAD!!!! Tommy still staring down receivers.

Unlike you guys, I think what the recruits saw is ND take the best USC could throw, and come back and then just get some bad luck.

I think the recruits will chock up the loss to the backup QB and a fluke and not the quality of our program.

Everything else was good I thought. The atmosphere was electric. There was alot to like for possible recruits.

I hate losing to USC and think we should have won that game but really coming into this season, I knew our QB situation would be our downfall and I've been proven right.

Rees, however, has improved. Hendrix is getting eased into it. I think that dual threat can be much more potent next season.

Building for next year was always the ultimate goal, in mind, coming into this season.

What the recruits saw was some **** poor play in terms of the fundamentals. The Irish had the talent to blow SC off the field and lost. One order of weak sauce to go.

Yeah, I thought we had an outside shot at BCS, we don't now but I don't care really.

BCS is just one game and it isn't the championship, then what's it REALLY matter? Isn't that what ND should be about?

I knew this isn't a championship caliber team heading into this year, I mean damn we didn't even have a QB until week 1 and then we sat him down! Writing was on the wall. The goal for this season is to improve as much as damn well possible for next year and I think I've been seeing success there.

Consider this, USC had effectively taken away Floyd for most of the game and Tommy Rees was able to use other players nearly the whole game with success. There was growth there from the start of the season when Rees would just throw it up to Floyd every play.

The fumble really can't be attributed to Rees. The interception I guess can but it was crunch time and he was trying to make something happen. He had managed that game well but the team lost composure after the dagger fumble recovery return. That's understandable.

Atkinson did well again. He's a playmaker. He'll help a lot in replacing Floyd's production next season.

The same USC almost lost to Minnesota (19-17) , who lost to Purdue, and were curb-stomped 58-0 by the same Michigan team which received a gift win from ND.

I really don't get this and see it posted by a number of posters... How does ND have the talent to blow SC off the field ??? Have you not seen the talent SC has pulled in the last 5 years and how it matches up to ND ??? There is actually no comparison... in favor of SC !!!

They won't have Barkley next year. We'll have the chip on our shoulder. We'll go back to their place and repay the favor.

We fought back? For a few minutes maybe. The rest of the game was us throwing the game.

You do realize we were 1 yard from tying the game at 24 in the 3rd quarter right? Did you watch the game?

If that's not fighting back after spotting them 17 (yes, it was 17-0 at one point)...I don't know what is...

It doesn't matter we have played one good game. That was Mich state. other then that the wins against Purdue,Air force,Pitt are meaning less we were supposed to beat those teams.

I can't see recruits being very impressed by ND. At the very least the game yesterday should have been a down to the wire thriller. But Notre Dame's lack of fundamentals made sure that didn't happen. Unless the recruits are looking for a program that they can play at right away or "be the savior" they probably weren't real impressed by what they saw on the field yesterday.

Look. I'm not really freaking out. I said we would finish 7-5 or 8-4. We are all pissed on how we are losing. Turnovers, mental mistakes, penalties, coaching, execution etc etc..... We want nothing more than to win every game and we SHOULD be 6-1 at worst but we are 4-3. Its pissin me off and it's pissin everyone off. If we lose next week to Navy then you could say that I'm freaking out. LOL

Every national championship season was preceded by a season of no more than four combined losses and ties. No exceptions. N.D. still has some foundation work to do.

I'm with you...

I'm with you...

Green Goblin....what are we freaking out about? Now, I can't say that I much agree with your idea that recruits might be "drooling" to come here because they've witnessed how desperately their services are needed. The opposite is clearly more like it! But, in the big picture, you're right. Next game we go back to playing service academies (thank you, athletic dept,), and even though we often lose to Navy, at least it's competition more on our level again. We all need to take a collective chill pill and go back to just enjoying campus football.

For all of last night and most of today I agreed with this. I joined this forum for a different perspective on ND football, especially after scUM this year. For the most part it has completely changed my perspective post-game and has been hugely beneficial. However, all last night during the game I just kept thinking about the 56 recruits in the stands. I thought about Arik Armstead de-committing from USC and coming to the game. I hope that they see deeper in to the game than just the score, and that in certain key positions there was success last night.

USC had their best game at ND stadium, just like everyone else.

When you're the #1 or #2 team, you get that same target. It just means you have to play that much better than whoever's playing you. We obviously haven't been.

Why does everyone think that recruits will bail after a loss? I don't get it. So is there only 1 team every year that gets the best recruits? Recruits choose a school for a variety of reasons. Te'o committed after a loss to Syracuse. Losses happen. And to answer the original question, we are freaking out because that's what the ND fan does. They freak out. Have you ever followed a gameday thread? They are almost unreadable.
