They are historically good inside the 5. They stonewalled PSU up the middle multiple times. That's why Sark tried to go outside.

You have to just go at them in that situation. Take 4 runs right at them and hope your RB makes something happen. Even if you don't succeed you give them the ball at their own 1.
But Sark had no creativity in his plays. 1st & goal at the 2 (IIRC), I run an RPO or fake the handoff and hit the WR like we did against UGA. Or fake the handoff up the middle and roll out. Pull those LB's up to open up the EZ. Give them something to think about if your first play doesn't get it in.

I don't see how the floor with Jagusah is any lower than Baker unless he has a bunch of false starts. Baker was horrific against PSU and Jag has been training to be a LT since he's been at ND. Upside is also significantly higher. Jagusah is going to drafted higher than anyone on OSU's front seven when all is said and done.

I've been trying to figure that out too. Just by reading some of the comments, possibly some people question whether the pectoral injury is fully healed and can be more susceptible to re-injury if one is blocking from the tackle position vs guard?🤷‍♂️

They are very good inside the five. I thought Sark made a terrible call when they had 1st & goal and followed it up with two more.
The toss play was regrettable. But I can totally see ND running that w/ J Price

Agree, but I'm assuming whomever is listed first is the starter. Maybe the ten days gets him better conditioned for the game
As I mentioned above, the “ORs” have been listed in alphabetical order all season. It doesn’t reflect who is listed first as the starter.

Agree, but they stopped Penn State going up the middle three times and then incomplete over the top so they turned it over at the one as well. The only one I’ve seen punch it into the end zone on them was Michigan. Even as tough as Michigan is upfront on the offensive line. It took them every ounce of possible effort to get it into the end zone from the one.

Under center not shotgun

Nah, you got a dude like Riley that is big and powerful, yet somehow nimble and explosive, yet also somehow slippery and difficult to tackle... you line him up in shotgun and let him find a crease. Bonus points because J. Love is always looking to get a lead block like he's a fullback playing for Lou Holtz.

Riley's Vision and Escapability + A Lead Blocker >>>> Under Center Man Ball QB Sneak

(especially when you never go under center anymore... except to spike the ball or kneel it out)

Completely agree. Jags is clearly the better option at LT over Baker, but the bigger question for the staff may be what matters more - locking down one edge or controlling the interior, both in protection and in generating movement in the run game.

ND isn’t winning this game by giving Leonard a clean pocket on 7-step drops. They have to run the ball and give him just enough time to make quick throws. Both of those become a hell of a lot harder if an injured Rocco is getting whipped inside. Think back to 2022 when 51 from OSU lived in the backfield and completely wrecked the offense. That same disaster feels possible with an injured Spindler lining up against their DTs.

Jags coming into the PSU game and bullying their front was a game-changer. His physicality sparked the run game and helped keep the pocket cleaner. RL’s legs and Denbrock’s scheme were enough to mask Baker’s deficiencies, and it worked well enough to beat PSU.
Completely different story when the pressure is coming from the inside. It’s much harder to escape pressure, and damn near impossible to run against it or scheme around it.

I really don’t know how effective Rocco will be inside with that injury. But if there’s any doubt, I’m sticking Jags at guard and telling RL to grow eyes in the back of his head b/c this offense depends far more on getting movement and security in the interior than it does on locking down the edge.

Can't fucking believe Knapp went down. I think we could have moved the ball on the ground all night with Knapp at LT and Jags at RG. Next man up, I guess.

This is a good point. Basically choosing which leak would you rather plug.

Damn. Best one yet. SIAP

I'm sorry, this thread isn't the place for this, but I'm so tired of highlight videos that start with a black and white loss while a sad song plays. It was interesting when people started uploading hype videos in 2005 but now it just feels like the highlight video equivalent of eating broccoli.
