In here just to say one thing...I would like to see Taylor Decker on his back at least 10 times on January 1st.

Any other ex-commits on OSU's team?

Eli Apple is the kid you wanted to see burnt by Will Fuller. Hate that dude and his dumb ass mother

ESPN article saying that there's a possibility that they might move Bosa inside to replace Washington. Would help them in passing situations, but would hope our guys could take advantage of that in the run game.

Could just be them trying to sound smart though too.

He stunts inside on 80% of their plays anyways unless its 3rd and long

Tidbits from ISD PH pertaining to this game:

Teams that sold out against the run against ND had more success than those who did not. If OSU sells out, they'll be doing so without Washington (who had a more productive season, statistically, than Day). If they slide Bossa inside, how does that change the dynamic of their DL vs ND's OL?

II and ISD had slightly contrasting views on the return of Smythe and Jones. II seems to think Smythe will pay dividends in red zone and blocking, but also in terms of freeing up another play maker. ISD seems a bit more conservative with their expectations. II feels Jones will be limited in reps (estimated about 15). Just hoping for some push. ISD is hoping Jones is up in the 25-35 range. OSU will run, a lot. Jones' contribution is two-fold: He can take on blockers (shouldn't see a lot of drop off with limited reps to keep him fresh) and when he's in, it allows others a break to stay fresh. I think the latter is huge for ND.

Essentially, OSU is down a DL and ND is up a DL (maybe two. Idk Cage's status off the top of my head). You have to think that benefits ND in terms of the run game defense comparisons.

Did Cage get hurt in the Stanford game too? I thought he was out before Stanford and played in Stanford?

Cage played in Stanford. II mentioned he only played 13 snaps though. A healthy Cage is a huge benefit. He and Tillery should play the bulk of the snaps, leaving Jones to get some and make the most out of limited reps and give the two young guys a breather.

I honestly can't remember. I'm just referring to his concussion status. Maybe he was cleared and played and is good to go. I haven't been keeping up with it all lately.

Thanks. This is what I was referencing, but couldn't remember specifics or even where I heard it.

Okay, so those who are going to be in Phoenix, where are you planning on partying the night away on NYE? I'm gonna get a nice fat steak and then chase that with a nice dose of whisky somewhere.

Also, where are people tailgating at? Would be cool to get an IE meet-up at a bar or tailgate

For steak, I recommend Don and Charlie's in Scottsdale. Really great steaks, and amazing baseball memorabilia all over the place to look at. It's pricey, but worth it.

My personal favorite was Monti's in Tempe, but they closed down last year. That place had the best steak for the money anywhere.

For tailgating, Westgate has tons of bars next to the stadium, but it will be hard to get in and expensive unless you go really early.

If you can, get a spot in the lawn in front of the stadium, that's a good setup area. The only problem with taking a car is the cops will sweep everyone out within an hour after the game ends. If you see them bring the horses out, that is past "last call to leave," and you better leave STAT, they don't play around with loiterers at that point, and don't GAF how drunk you are, they just want you to go home.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have made a reservation at Durant's, as I've been told the prime rib (which is my NYE tradition) is the best in town. I've never been to the metro area, so I'm excited to explore a new city!

I found a bar in between where I'm staying (Biltmore District) and the Stadium that opens at 6 AM New Years day, so I'll hit that on my way, get a few in me, head to The Nest south of the stadium to be close before the game, and then head in the stadium around 1130-12

Also, not driving, Uber will definitely be my friend down there

The metro area is nothing like other big cities. Other than the sports arenas, and a few bars around them, there isn't anything to do/look at. They recently made a "cityscape," but it basically is a few cookie cutter bars and one of those fancy bowling alleys, nothing special. Where you're staying (Biltmore) has way more to see/do. Biltmore/Arcadia/Old Town/Mill Ave would be my areas to explore.

If you want something that truly displays the uniqueness of AZ, the Heard Museum North of Downtown is amazing. Another sightseeing point of interest in the area is the Frank Lloyd Wright home, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you are a hardcore architecture fan, I found it quite boring.

*If you must go downtown, take the light rail. It's cheap and clean.

Thanks for the tips, brotha. Planned on just bar hopping the whole time anyways.

You ever been to the Mill Ave. Block Party? Sounds like a good time, but fear there will be way too many people for my liking

Mill and Old Town will be absolutely slammed all week. The block party is ok, but, not to sound too much like a pussy, is actually pretty damn cold. People don't realize the temperature gets into the 30s at night this time of year in Central AZ, and I feel like we were in a bar within an hour or so every time we went. It is exactly what it sounds like: crappy bands playing outside and overpriced beer.

As far as bar hopping, my recommended spots would be:

On Mill: Rula Bula Irish Pub
Old Town: Rusty Spur Saloon, The Lodge, Papago Brewing, Pattie's
Arcadia: Arcadia Tap
Metro: Cooperstown (Alice Cooper's bar, cheesy but neat)

*The places I mentioned are more laid back (read: awesome dive bars with good people). If you want to sip a $30 martini and look at gorgeous women, Old Town has plenty of those too.

The lot opens at 7am, we'll be in Cabella's parking lot across the street @ 6a. So don't stay too long at the bar which I assume is Stinger's. (Baaaaad choice unless you are from the tough side of Omaha!)

If you want to be around ND people on New Year's Eve, the 35+ will be at JD's sports bar watching the Semi's. It's located at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort where the team is staying.

If you still are in the 29 and under crowd... I imagine Rockbar in Old Town will be the ND hangout. That's where the youngin's have their Watch Parties.

I saw you picked Durant's. Excellent choice since you are staying in the Biltmore. If you are a fan of Spencer's in Omaha and have the time, I suggest you try Market Street Kitchen in DC Ranch. My buddy from high school is the Executive Chef at Spencer's and set up MSK.

Maybe we'll see you at the team's hotel?

Somebody rep this man for me please.

Looking forward to going crazy with you all NYE! See you in Phoenix!

Buster, this is me just thinking out loud, but i am starting to feel that this game is the most important one of my lifetime too. I cannot think of a team that I would want ND to beat more than Ohio State. And it really doesn't matter what their record is, or the fact that they one the title last year. I think it would be the single most gratifying victory we could have minus winning a national title at this point. I let it simmer a little, and now I am convinced by what you said.

This is a huge game but I'd rather beat Bama in the playoffs/championship. They will be a stalwart in the playoffs for the next decade and beating them on the biggest stage will solidify NDs place amongst the top tier.

But beating tOSU as defending national champs would be a great step along that path. I just wish our game were later in the evening. Afternoon games always feel weird.

Oh no doubt, but again it is more of a sentimental factor of being from Ohio. This conversation stems from an earier one on the first page of this thread. Obviously winning a title against anyone would top this game, but even then a win in this one would still be right up there with it. A win here will catapult this program back to the glory days lol.
