"ISD Intel"

Was a really good Intel today:
-Feeling good about Aliz'e. Usual stuff there.
-All of the EEs seem 100% locked in with Hoge and Tillery coming up to campus this weekend.
-Talked about Jennings' hesitation towards playing safety over WR. Said they could switch their recruiting tactics on him towards recruiting him as an "ATH" and that might have an impact.
-John Humphrey is another WR/DB to keep an eye on. He's firmly committed to Oklahoma but it wouldn't be shocking to see him give Notre Dame another look.
-Talked about the RBs... Dexter Williams and Vaughn are realistic targets. While ISD doesn't come outright and say it, I think it's trending towards crossing Cronkite off the list from what I've heard. Probably not the best fit in both directions.
-Like we've been talking about on here for a little over a month, McKinney is likely not going to be part of this class. Yearly academic casualty.
-Adding an offensive lineman... they went through the three names we've been discussing on here (Jurkovic, Valentine-Okeke, and Allen). Personally, I don't think we're getting any of them but I think there are some guys committed elsewhere not listed in Intel that we shouldn't talk about now that we might have a decent shot at. Stay tuned. They confirmed that it's about Tillery's flop to DL and potential health issues with other OL -- but there was encouraging news about Bivin. No word on McGovern.
-And then Everett Golson... like we said on here when the story broke about his "interest in transferring to LSU" the article was misleading. He'll be back for spring ball and if he can win the job he's going to stay. If he can't win the job, he'll probably strongly consider a 5th year somewhere else that'll give him a chance to audition for the NFL. All makes perfect sense.

For getting another o-lineman in this class, why not go after one of those in-state kids that we were recruiting for a period of time earlier in the cycle (Adam Solomon and Matt McCann)? I don't think it would be too hard to flip either of them

Power hour this week was more like power 1.5 hours... and Mike Frank spends about the first half an hour taking a hard look at ND's recruiting strategy and where it falls short. His opinion is informed and very interesting.

LAX, do we have to pay to listen to this? If not can you post a link, I would love to see what he has to say.

5 minutes in, don't need to hear anymore. They're borderline disgusted with our safety recruiting and recruiting of guys that we might need later on (LB that was committed to Michigan and now Tennessee). I agree with them.

Yeah they were talking for over half an hour about (our shoddy) recruiting strategy. I skipped ahead to 35 min in, that's where they get to reader questions, fyi.

I listened to it. Basically went after our recruiting plan. My biggest takeaway is that BVG aint doing shit in recruiting.

I actually liked this staff, but if these opinions are accurate, I'm all for a change. They make our recruiting effort's sound pathetic. Bring in a staff that actually works. A great coach once said CFB success is 80% recruiting.

So where does it fall short?

So where does it fall short?

The main things were:

-Not keeping close enough tabs on kids throughout the process
-Cutting off contact with kids once we are close to getting a commit at their position
-BK not making direct contact with kids the way Meyer and Saban do

Essentially not working hard enough in recruiting or building strong enough personal bonds with kids.

Smh. This is all just laziness. Unacceptable.

Institutional things - not paying assistants. Said even if Denbrock's not worth 1 million dollars, how are you going to attract a big time coordinator if you're only paying denbrock .5 million and you fire him. Set some precedent that you're willing to invest.

*Hypothetical - Denbrock's not going anywhere.

Denbrock doesn't call plays so I get paying him less. Having said that back the Brinks truck up for Alford. He should be making close to a million. He is the one person from the staff we can't afford to lose.

Basically, ND's lack of paying coaches shows that they're not committed to athletic excellence. They have the money, won't pony up.

Don't take away from teacher's salaries, don't compromise academics, commit to excellence in athletics by getting and keeping the best coaches. The money will come back ten fold when we win.

Also, we got Trumbetti because he loved ND. Staff put in almost zero effort and Diaco never even made a call. What the fuck? Sure, Diaco's gone, but how does BK let that happen? I'd fire everyone if that's the effort they show.

This power hour definitely opened some eyes. BK's seat better be made of lava if he doesn't contend for the playoffs.

What exactly is BK doing that he can't put the time in recruiting like Saban or Meyer?

Lots to see in South Bend. Probably sight seeing. Basically, everyone outside of Alford and Cooks deserves to a D- in recruiting at best.
