A better coach wouldn't be trailing so often in the 4Q, imo.

There is no question these games wouldn't have been won under CW era. But I will have to look this up to see what teams these were against.

I've seen a pic of Whiskey. Damn good looking man. Doesn't have the body for the squad, but strapping none the less.

I saw a statistic on Twitter that casts Kelly in a favorable light. So I decided to share it in the thread where his quality as a coach was most recently being discussed.
Actually I believe this thread was bumped recently even before you, even tho the other was open. I'd like to revisit Kelly, but I think he's a good coach.

Why shouldn't he? I don't agree with gkIrish on this but if the topic comes up he should be free to add his opinion.
I'm sorry, I know that how boards like this are supposed to work, but so many people seem to act the opposite.

The "Kelly Revisited" thread was locked.

Not till after this was bumped for like a week I believe.

The bump referred to above was caused by the Tweet I posted a couple hours ago. I went to the Kelly Revisited thread first, and found it locked, so I posted it here instead. Why does it matter?

My original complaint was basically that, rather than posting the tweet in "General Team Info" or some other thread, it was posted here to presumably stick it to the "haters." I found that to be in poor taste because people complain about the complainers then jab at us looking for a response.

It's really not a big deal though. Let's all just drop it.

Not to be starting something I wonder how can you say that? I didn't think that was the intention when I read it.

We should have a "Kelly is a good coach" thread and a "Kelly is a bad coach" thread. The haters can only post in the "bad coach" thread and the supporters only in the "good coach" thread!

Who should be the National Coach of the Year? This isn't easy at all. The first thought is Jim McElwain at Florida for what he's done with that program even with his starting QB suspended. But then you think of Brian Kelly at Notre Dame, who lost his starting quarterback, running back, tight end, defensive tackle and nickel back to season-ending injuries by the end of September. And what about Gary Patterson at TCU, who essentially lost his entire defense at one point? And can you discount guys like Dabo Swinney at Clemson and Les Miles at LSU, who have their teams undefeated and currently at the top of the mountain? And how about Justin Fuente at Memphis, who has his program as high as they have ever been, or rock star Jim Harbaugh, who has made a horrible Michigan team into a Top 25 program? This will all work itself out in the end and it could be a guy like Mark Dantonio or Kirk Ferentz or Art Briles if they run the table, but if I had to vote today, it would be Kelly. I completely wrote off Notre Dame when it was forced to start DeShone Kizer (above) along with C.J. Prosise in the backfield and now if it wins out, it will be in the playoffs. That's amazing. - See more at: https://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1822190#sthash.Ma6NjnDK.dpuf

Kelly is a good coach he has had to rebuild depth (the want-to-be tuna) left the team in horrible shape

Horrible coach.

As Kelly said, October is for pretenders, Novembers is for contenders. We'll see how we finish, November hasn't been a good month for us typically. Even in 2012, November was probably our weakest month from a performance standpoint.

Yes, I think BK is a good coach, bordering on great. The whole landscape of college football has rapidly changed in the past decade and ND can't recruit like "normal" colleges because of academic requirements. We're within a few years of a National Championship.

Yeah, I would love to see a strong finish this year. The path is set to get to double digit wins. It is important to not have any let downs. Could end up being a great year or we will revert back to the here we go again crowd, and justifiably so. We have the talent with a group that really cares about winning, so I think we will be happy when all is said and done.

this is completely wrong, just fyi. One thing Weis did was leave a pretty stocked cupboard that pretty much set us up for the 2012 championship run.

Umm, no. Weis recruited pretty well in a few areas (QB, mostly) but completely blew it in some of the most important. Namely, the lines.

Skill position only cannot make a team. See 2009.

I disagree with this.

If you said that Weis left the roster more stocked then what he inherited from Willingham, now I could agree with that.

Yeah, I wouldn't say Weis left an empty cupboard, certainly not by Willingham standards. We certainly didn't have depth to speak of though, and our two best players on offense left early in 2010.

Which position? There were some huge recruiting successes with Weis. As was said previously, none of the depth was on the O-line or D-line. Eifert, Rudolph, Floyd, Martin, Riddick, Cierre Wood, Teo...

And was all messed up by the fact that Crist flopped so hard.

Also Harrison Smith and Robert Blanton.

Though it's worth noting how much better these players became with Kelly. Smith was a punchline under Weis.

True. Also lets add Z. Martin, Chris Watt, Trevor Robinson, Jamoris Slaughter, KLM and Sean Cwynar, etc. to the list.

you guys can neg rep or whatever makes you feel good about yourself. but 9/11 offensive starters on the 12' squad were weis recruits, including 3 offensive linemen. 6/11 defensive starters were weis recruits including the entire linebacking corps outside of danny spond.

So I'd say weis left kelly with a decent cupboard. that made our 2012 season possible.

oh and i definitely agree kelly coached them up and was responsible for the victories, doesn't change the fact that weis brought those guys in.

also add Tommy Rees in as quasi starter for 2012

also this is not counting nix who was recruited by weis but committed between coaches
