I'd like to state that I never said Kelly sucks as a coach, but that he's been wildly inconsistent...strike that, he's been consistent in how average our record has been through the season, and some of the losses fall directly on his baffling play calling. Not all, but some.
A lot of his problems however, can be attributed to just rotten luck. That being said, how long does bad luck continue to be the excuse? Again, not saying he's bad, nor that this season is destined to go into free-fall mode like last year.
This can't be taken at face value either. This was during, like I said, one of the darkest moments of our recent history. Circus acts against Arizona State, a horrible loss to a bad Northwestern team, special teams gone missing against Louisville, all accumulated with the sh*tfest in Los Angeles. I'm pretty sure every single ND fan questioned Kelly's ability even a little after that streak, and if you didn't, you're lying. That could've been Urban Meyer, and fans would be questioning him. It's natural, as that's the kind of world College Football is. It's a "what have you done for me recently?" type of game. Why am I suddenly not allowed to form an opinion that critiques Kelly's abilities, even when I stated he's learned from his mistakes?
I know, it wasn't a great critique by any means, but I was far from the only person to question Kelly's coaching during that time, or hell, at ANY point during his tenure.
