Wanted to post this just as food for thought: Heard Coach Meyer on Mike & Mike this morning talk about how he had 12 season ending injuries to his team this year and how it's uncharted territory for him. He talked about how creative the coaching staff needed to be to get the team ready for the games. They're winning games with a backup and now third string QB. Name another team that wins the conference champ 59-0, the Sugar Bowl against #1 Alabama, and now playing for the NC with a third stringer....Buehler?
I'm not a BK basher, but I've always had a problem with his arrogance and unwillingness to adapt. I think he needs to take a page out of Urban's book here. ND has had back-to-back seasons with some pretty substantial injury issues, yet you constantly hear the coaches talk about the process and "Next man in" mantra, yet the results on the field don't pan out. It was discussed WEEKS in advance of the USC game on ISD Power Hour that the staff needed to adapt their game plans around all of these injuries and younger players filling in. Yet you didn't see it happen until LSU. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but that sort of arrogance is likely what cost ND the ASU, UL, and NW games. Yes, the players need to execute better. But the coaches need to do a better job of putting them in a position to succeed. I think way too much was asked of this team this year, especially Golson. And I think a lot of the younger guys, especially on defense, were set up for failure. I'm extremely proud of how they ended against LSU. But that was in large part to BK finally adapting, changing his game plan, and calling a perfect game. I hope he continues to do that moving forward.
