Internal Server Errors

Why is it that some posts will not go through and get an internal server error? It must be some configuration of characters that causes it. But it's really annoying. Can it be fixed? Or avoided? I hate typing up long posts and then not being able to submit them.

Wish I knew. When that happens to me, I go through and delete one sentence at a time until it goes through. If others would do the same, we could narrow it down by pasting the offending sentences in this thread.

I reported this situation two years and nothings been done about it. In fact the thread was closed without response. I also sent it to the webmaster and got no response. Before the Fall of '11 I had no problems pasting articles to IE then the Internal Server Error message started to appear. It was mainly with cut and pasted articles but also happened with tables and spreadsheets I constructed from scratch.

Internal System Error

In trying to post an ND Press Release in the "Tim Abromaitis: Torn ACL" thread I kept getting an Internal System Error when trying to post the next to last paragraph of the Press release. I noted the following in that thread:

N.B. There is a missing paragraph in this post. The next to last paragraph in the Press Release triggers an Internal System Error (see below) when I include it in this post. I've tried entering it by cut and paste from the posted ND release, I've manually entered the pargraph, I've saved email the article to myself. Something in it triggers a repeated error message. After 10 minutes of trying, I give up. The missing paragraph notes he has a already gotten two degree from ND.

There was no response from management then either. This isn't a mod level problem, it's at a higher level and they've turned a deaf ear for two years.


I posted a response to NDFan4Life based on my experience here resorting to cutting and pasting by paragraph or sentence and even retyping the article. I and some other posters suspect there's an offending hidden character in the original article text that is the problem but we were never able to find it. While it caused a server problem on IE, I was able to paste the same offending article, text, table, spreadsheet onto other websites with no difficulty. That tells me the problem is here.

Post length is irrelevant but it occurs more rfrequently in long posts because there is a higher chance of triggering the error due to the offending character combination (whatever it is)

I don't know who the tech is that runs the site. maybe there aren't any techs running the site and that's the problem?

Thanks for the tip, looks like he hasn't been on IE since December. I'll try to track him down.

Seriously, I haven't seen that, but my posts are usually short (and stupid).

I've had the problem on occasion over the years. It involved posts both long and short. It always seemed to happen when I was either locking horns with someone or poking fun, whether it was at them or myself.

I, after repeated attempts to edit and ratchet back, tended to have another glass of wine (or can of beer); chalk it up to some form of devious and nefarious "pre-publication censorship" and head for bed.

Then there is the fact that our cyber-scribblings undoubtedly pass through any number of servers before they're allowed to reach our intended destination. Who knows? Who's at fault?

I doan no nuthin' 'bout birthin' no postins.

I tried without success. I was a mod when I first reported the problem by opening a thread about it. I also contacted the webmaster as directed by the error message. The thread was closed without comment. I didn't hear from tech support.

This is now the third thread on the topic.

I've tried sending a problematic post in the past but it blew up the PM as well.

If the poster was trying to copy and paste an article he can send you a link to the balky article.
