You know it's bad when they fire you 8 days away from the first game

What a sad state for the program. Not that I'm a hardcore fan, but I do have a soft spot for those ugly ass jerseys, seeing as I did grow up 50 minutes from them.

They'll make it back, sort of, eventually. They care much more about the basketball team than anything else though.

The radio host said it's for cause and he'll not get his 3 million dollar buy out. He apparently with held medical treatment from players so they could stay active. WTF was he thinking?

Its saying on ESPN he "made efforts to deter injury reporting and incluence medical decisions that pressure players to avoid or postpone medical treatment and continue playing despite injurites."

I was rooting for Beckman too. What a clown if that is true.

Wasn't there a player that recently went off about this? An offensive lineman or something, and then everyone kind of brushed it off and discredited him as a disgruntled former player?

I have a ton of U of I alumni friends, who regardless of how good the program is or not, they were not going to go to another game until he was fired. The whole alumni hated him, and are happy with anyone but him. That being said their program is an absolute joke and can't recruit the midwest, let alone the state to save their ass. Its a joke. Basketball team can't recruit Chicago either.

right, very hard to see him getting a coaching gig again. At least not one that will have any weight to it.

Im from Southern Illinois, hence the "Soill" name, this guy is a complete nutjob, I've been told its much worse than what has been reported. Its going to be tough for this program to come back from this

I'm an alumnus and let me tell you, this guy is an ass clown of the highest order. Good for the university and program but the external impressions of the school as in shambles is correct. What a joke.

There's a difference between pain and injury. If you are not needed...it's injury. if you are a critical player...it's just pain.

Seems the coach just came out with a strong statement denying the accusations. Said the AD's statement as to his dismissal is utterly false.

Details finally coming out regarding the investigation.
Former Illinois coach Tim Beckman 'does not believe in hamstring injuries,' disregarded player health - SBNation.com

Illinois has released the full investigation that got former coach Tim Beckman fired before the season, and it has backed up many of the claims made by former Illinois football player Simon Cvijanovic, who said Beckman forced him to play injured.

The full investigation found more troubling notes about Beckman that were previously unknown.

Beckman said he "does not believe in hamstring injuries."

Beckman would call a player "pussy," "sissy" or "soft" when they left to get injury assistance from trainers.

Beckman pressured trainers to prematurely clear players from injuries.

One one occasion, Beckman said, "I don't care if you're hurt, everyone is practicing when we get back. No one cares if you're hurt, I don't care. Your family may care. Northwestern doesn't care."

Beckman got in the way of a potential life-threatening injury: "Two physicians confronted coach Beckman during the 2012 season after a player went down with a potential spinal injury. The sports medicine staff evaluating the player report that they did not want the player to move as they were stabilizing his spine and holding the player's head still, but coach Beckman reportedly inserted himself to tell the player to turn his head to look at coach Beckman so that he could tell the player that he was going to be fine."

Beckman also disregarded concussion protocol: "A team physician recalled taking a player for evaluation who was stumbling around and confused after a big hit in a game, and coach Beckman interjecting before the evaluation was complete stating to the player "hey, you're ready to play, you're okay."

Beckman was previously known to have made injured players wear purple jerseys, the color of Illinois' rival, Northwestern, to demean them.

Interim coach Bill Cubit was cleared of any wrongdoing in the report. He was alleged to have told Cvijanovic to get off antidepressants, but he says he gave this as possible advice in a personal setting after seeing antidepressants give a family member stomach problems. The investigators did not believe this was a threat.

Illinois announced that it has fired athletic director Mike Thomas "without cause" after reviewing the results of the investigation. Illinois cited Thomas' dismissal as a necessary "change in leadership," not due to any specific allegations of wrongdoing in the report.

With Thomas gone, Illinois now has an interim chancellor, interim athletic director and interim football coach, and it is unclear who will have the authority to hire the new coach.

Saw some of those incidents posted by Brian Hamilton today. Pretty damning stuff, no wonder he got the boot. Can't believe he made that player turn his head to look at him while medical staff were trying to stabilize the player with a possible spine injury!
