For the record as a mod I read all the names in the Banned file, and IUB was listed there but with no explanation. Seems like it was back in '07 or '08 but that's a guess.

There's a space for the reason for banning and fpr the name of the mod issuing the ban. They weren't always filled in years ago. There could have been a ban during the Dark Ages by one mod that was lifted by another. There was one mod that axed quite a few people before he departed.

I haven't been a mod for a couple of years so I no longer have access to that file.

Good to hear you're on the right side fo the grass.

Thanks. I don't recall ever being banned here, maybe it was just for a day? Never heard of IrishFans either. I never posted or was a mod anywhere before I joined Irish Envy and have actually never posted anywhere but here and GH, not even on DD.

Who was it that basically did a mic drop and called out a number of members on here and peace'd out of the site? Maybe a year or two ago?

Also I haven't been a lurker since the 2011 recruiting cycle, and as far as I can remember the Lynch saga seems to have been the most dramatic thing that I can recall going down as far as IE goes. Was there anything on that level before then? It seems like IE really blew up around that time, before then none of the threads seemed nearly as active as they are now, so I don't know if was even possible around that time. Anybody have some insight?

The Dark Ages we've been taking about today are '07-'08 timeframe.

The Lynch thread was deleted by the mods after his transfer announcement and some ugly posts. That's what you recall.

Seven or eight years ago this site and Domer Domain were threatened with legal action and both changed ownership. Before the sale one of the mods in the middle of the night deleted every thread that he a post in as he was afraid he would be sued personally for allowing copyrighted material to be posted. He deleted 10 -20,000 posts. I think I lost about 3000 posts.

The Lynch thread more recently was probably a couple thousand posts.

Wow, didn't realize it was that serious. Is that a major reason behind why a lot of the older player threads were minuscule compared to what they are today?

I'm still trying to remember who it was that called out personally a large number of people on this site on a thread he made solely for that purpose. It was the biggest "Oh shit" moment I remember happening on here.

What copyrighted material was posted?

Years ago some people use to cut and paste entire original articles from Mike Frank's site, Rivals, Scout, etc. and post them without any attribution or links. It was unclear to many what could or could not be posted. Others didn't care. There were usually few mods on the sites and the owners couldn't possibly review all that was posted each day.

At least two recruiting services took issue and sent letters to some boards threatening legal action. If I recall correctly those services actually overreached as they objected to people reading their material and then paraprasing it even with attribution and links.

As a wee Cub Scout, I was on the Howdy Doody show on live TV from New York City. When I got home and my mom asked if I had learned anything on the show I repeated to my parents something I had heard on the set, "Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring gives it away to all comers." My father did his best to stifle a laugh as mom gave him what I later learned was the evil eye.

Wow. That is possible ... but I've never heard Bogs go on about the demise of the honey bees ... or the world's frogs. Sir John didn't speak in tongues either.

You assume he isn't talking about them when he types in Gaelic.

now THAT guy was a flaming pile of shit.

Always hated the guy, he's a surfer dude that lives on tofu and Kayle chips, thinks living on welfare is a way of life and cries at double rainbows :dogpile:

Is Big Business Killing the Largest Labor Force on the Planet? The majority of the pesticides held responsible for the bee demise are produced by none other than Bayer Company (yes, the aspirin maker). The toxic pesticides pulled by Germany are largely manufactured by Bayer. But Germany is not the first to make such a move. Back in 1999, France banned the use of imidacloprid, and rejected an application from Bayer for clothianidin this year. What does this business amount to for the corporate giant ? For Bayer, imidacloprid and clothianidin account for $1.25 billion in global annual sales.

Thanks for making me feel less old!

All of the Neutered stuff blew my mind. I had no idea.

I too have been away a while. The wife and I had two beautiful babies show up 2 months ago, and they tend to keep us busy.

They're also the reason why I'm online at 3:10 in the morning..

Congratulations. There has been a rash of that around here in the last year and a half!

But two at once, if you can do that, you can do anything!

I have seven of my own, my youngest turned eight last month. So I am not so senile that I have forgotten what it is like. Especially the one that liked late night TV.

I also have five grandchildren, so I watch my older kids going through it, too! Kind of a unique perspective.

I wish you more energy and patience than you :

Ba mhaith liom tú níos mó fuinnimh agus foighne ná mar a bhí a fhios agat go raibh tú, agus an greann agus eagna a dhéanamh ar an chuid is mó de é.

(something about energy and patience guided by humor and wisdom. The old ones would always give "a blessing in Irish", to us young ones. We all new it was lucky for us, and their way of passing on their love, so I have tried to continue it.)
