How Much Influence Does IE Have?

I have watched close to every ND game since I was about 10 years old (I'm almost 30) and I heard something during the USC game that I've never heard before." Thunderstruck", by AC/DC being played as NBC went to a commercial break.
I believe that myself and maybe one or two other posters suggested that this song be played during the game in the "Notre Dame Stadium Atmosphere" thread, concerning the new sound system installed at the stadium.
As a matter of fact, there wasn't a song played over the sound system that wasn't suggested by our members if my memory serves me well.
Am I reading to much into this or does IE have some people on the inside checking in regularly?

we have been indirectly mentioned both positively (the "bob diaco is chuck norris" thing) and negatively (see John Turner vs Title2012) although i know several recruits amd current/former players/staff who read the site

Yes. You are reading too much into this. Thunderstruck is generic stadium rock. How many songs were suggested that weren't played?

The songs they played are all pretty much staples at sporting events across the country. That is also likely the reason they were mentioned here.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out somebody in the football program checks this board (and/or other boards) on occasion to get the "pulse" of the fans or whatever, but in terms of "influence"? The answer is 'none' - I hope. At least in terms of most of what we talk about: who should start, how they should defend/attack the opponent, who they should recruit and what position the recruit should play, etc. Nobody cares about that but us, and that is the way it should be.

A lot of the songs played are pretty generic when it comes to pump up music. So of course most would suggest it here and the actual people that play it in the stadium would have the same thought process.

I totally agree, I just found it strange that up until now I've NEVER heard that song played while going to a commercial break.

As far as media and that looking into fan opinion ... I think we stand strong. When it comes to BIG CHANGES and first in 21 year type stuff .... NO WAY!

I think people watch, read and react to us but not in a manner that is game/LIFE changing.

If they play one of the songs I sent them via email, then we will know they are truly listening.

It wasn't Coach Kelly who started the "What do you guys think about starting Hendrix?" thread?

In Meat Market (Bruce Feldman book that follows a year of Ole Miss recruiting under Orgeron-amazing book), the football department at Ole Miss has someone who checks out team and rival message boards early in the morning and gives a report to the coaches. So it is likely that there are actual people connected to ND who do read Irish Envy.

Well if we didn't have so many darn good posters. This is the best message board i am apart of hands down. Why i spend to much time on it. Met a lot of great people on this board, I am sure people in the football offices read this site.

In Davie's ... (I hate to say era) ... discombulation ... the first year, if I recall correctly, ND had 4 or 5 LBs go down early in the season. Davie was panic stricken (it was a frequent state of mind). In an interview I think the week of the Stanford game. He lamented to the media that ND was down to walk-ons and he did't know where he was going to get a suitable LB. I posted on the Irish Recruiting Journal, the Godfather of ND boards, "DAVIE SUITS UP LEPRECHAUN TO FILL VOID" and typed a "media news release". With 10 minutes I got a email from a noted Chicago sports journalist wanting to use my headline on his lead story and he wanted me to sign a release so he could use it. I said, "Sure as long as I and the IRJ get cited." He balked that his paper was too big to cite an internet board. This was '97. I replied, "Well your newspaper isn't too big to scout our board looking for leads!" He didn't reply back.

Two years later Davie was having a losing season. I had a source on staff in the locker room (who thought Davie was running the program into the ground). The source would call a friend of his who emailed me the info. I knew several players and their families at the time so I could corroborate the tips. They panned out. I would paraphrase and post. Nothing that would help out the oppostion but internal differences of opinion on things like clock management, play calling, depth chart, etc. In less than a week I was contacted by email (mine was included with my posts) by Davie's Football Administrator demanding to know my source. We swapped a couple of emails and the issue was dropped when they refused to confirm or deny various points.

I've also swapped email and PMs with recruits and there family members on that board and this.

So yes, journalists, football staff, AND recruits read these boards.

Then they should read this, RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!!

And this-- I hear there is a lot of depth in the '13 recruiting cycle for snappers, kickers, extra point holders, and the guys that drop their arms on a kickoff. WE NEED TO SIGN THEM UP...IN DROVES!!!

If they listened to everything we said the team would have come out in pink neon glow-in-the-dark plaid jerseys against USC. :)

The only reason I can see staffs monitoring boards would to possibly pick up information on recruits that they aren't aware of. Some posters on here, and other boards, have some pretty good inside info from time to time that may benefit their recruiting strategies.

Other than that, I think they could care less. IMO

Although it didnt help much last week this was the place where the gold on the helmet first became a point of conjecture. I'm sure Capn Jack has someone reading here. Next lets start talking about admissions for football players.
