I didn't see a thread going on this, but I just wanted to see where everyone stood. I think the top contenders are all good, but if I had to pick one to be on my team, it would be McCaffrey without a doubt.

It's not fair to him, but he just looks like one more Yeldon, Ingram, Richardson, Lacy, etc..

I said it wasn't fair. All of those guys look alike and it just makes it seem less impressive. Give me a fast back and five 5 Star lineman and I can show you some stats like Henry.

I argue for the guy from Stanford because he is a game changer. He's a guy that you have to gameplan for. Defenses always have to look for him and make sure they've got guys available.

Plus, breaking a Barry Sanders record is also a good comparison.

Henry will win comfortably with McCaffrey 2nd and Watson 3rd. Mayfield might get an invite if the numbers are close between 3rd and 4th, but I don't think they will be. The top 3 are pretty clear.

What I felt made him different than McCaffrey was the fact that you knew exactly what Henry and Bama was going to do, and he still didn't get stopped. And there were a whole lot of five star defenders on the other side of the ball trying to do it as well. Nothing against any of the contenders as they are all great, but I gotta go with Henry. I have also stated that I don't really care much about the Heisman as it has lost it luster to me over the course of the last couple of decades.

I voted for a McCaffrey and it is not even close for me. McCaffrey is an all around weapon and broke the single season yardage record held by Barry Sanders. Anytime you're breaking one of Barry Sanders' records you had a historic season. Sure Henry broke Walker's record but Sanders>>Walker to me and I'll vote for the guy who can do it all.

Sure teams game planned to stop Henry but they game planned to stop McCaffrey too and McCaffrey doesn't have the luxury of playing behind an elite offensive line either.

From an outsiders perspective it seemed to me Henry basically carried bama, if not for starting that awful QB for ole miss game they'd be undefeated. Mccaffrey added special teams yards whoopdy doo, he was a non factor in ND game

Meh. McCaffrey added lots of meaningless kickoff and punt return yards, and Alabama is one dimensional. Is McCaffrey irreplaceable on that Stanford team? I tend to think no. I think henry could have been replaced with one of Alabamas backups and we would have seen similar production.

I would have no problem with McCaffrey winning either. But don't underestimate the fact that he did have a QB that helped him tremendously. Also, McCaffrey didn't do very well against teams that had some sort of defense... ND is a prime example. Big numbers in a conference not known for defense doesn't do as much for me.

If we are looking at who simply meant the most to their team then I could be swayed that Watson would be up there pretty high. Also, Cook from FSU is worth mentioning. He had a solid year as well.

Cook is objectively the best running back in college football this year. Dude's unreal, and averaged exactly 2 YPC (5.9 v 7.9) more than Henry. He was FSU's offense, and had a crappy OL to boot.

Well if we're talking about who the best RB in the country is to me that is Cook and then Fournette.

I'm also baffled by the whole meme of "McCaffrey added in worthless punt return and kick return yards." Do they not count? Don't 20 yards on a kick return count the same as a 20 yard game from a handoff or nah? McCaffrey is a Swiss Army Knife and can do a lot of different things.

I'm probably in the minority here but I am not overly impressed with McCaffery. Is he a good player...yes, but not the best player in the country. A lot of people on here talk about how bad our defense is yet we held him to 94 yards rushing at only 3.5/carry and 19 yards receiving. Not overly impressed with the return yards. When someone returns 5 kickoffs a game, they are going to rack up a lot of yards. He only averaged 21.8/return against us...very average.

Completely agree with you, but anytime someone breaks a record held by Barry Sanders it's worth taking note of.

This is where I'm at. Nobody stopped him all year and he had a ton of carries and everyone knew he was getting the ball.

Agree...and our "average" defense held Watson to under 100 yards rushing and a QB rating of only 64.5. One of his two worst games of the year.

Easily. Cook has 211 carries on the year. Henry has 339. It's impossible to keep up that level of production with over 100 more carries. He's not an android.

Fair enough. Cook only played in 11 games to Henry's 13 (and Cook only had 2 carries in another game), and they averaged almost the exact same yards per game despite Cook having about 7 fewer carries per game. I also think their performance against a common opponent is illustrative (in back to back weeks):

Cook @ Florida: 26 carries, 183 yards, 7.0 YPC, 32 yard LNG, 2 TDs
Henry v. Florida: 44 carries, 189 yards, 4.3 YPC, 21 yard LNG, 1 TD

Henry's a beast, don't get me wrong, but I think Cook was -by a fairly wide margin- the most dangerous player in CFB this year. If he hadn't been nursing a hamstring injury all year, he probably would have had a similar number of carries as Henry and numbers that would have blown his out of the water.

Again, Henry's a beast, but if he wins the Heisman it's a team achievement trophy.
