He's a good guy. IL is lucky to have him.
Nobody would have turned them around in under 5 years.
IMO, IL will never be a T1 program, and will be lucky to attain T2 status on its better years.

Absolutely. They can go consistently, 6-6 to 8-4 they've reached a good level. Then, they have that big season where everything falls into place, luck out on some B1G East matchups, sneak in 9-3, 10-2 record.

Kind of wish Bob Stoops would go to K State after Bill is done. Maybe Mike could be the head coach there after Bill.

He could be like Snyder was for KSU if they let him stay a while.

When I think of Lovie Smith I think of clueless looks on the sidelines, and undeserved, lucky wins after he was thoroughly out coached for 60 minutes. But I'm a Vikings fan who hates the Bears for full disclosure.

may just name this "Head Coaching Carousel."

But saw Bowling Green fired their coach and nothing official but saw one talking head mention Mike Elston.

Anyone have thoughts on this or if ND will survive to the 2019 season with its 2018 coaching staff in tact?

I sure hope they can retain Elston. He obviously has this DL room competing at a level we haven't seen since he last did it. And his recruiting acumen is very important to continuing to stock the talent of that room.

Elston will not be going to Bowling Green if they hire this time around in the same manner as last time....

The AD googled "best college offense 2015" and the answer was Texas Tech. So then they went through the Texas Tech staff to figure out who the highest-ranking coach was they could afford and ended up at Mike Jinks.

Kansas, Rutgers, UConn, UNC, San Jose State, Louisville, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Auburn, and maybe more could come open in terms of jobs. I think Elston wouldn't jump ship to a MAC school after 9 seasons. I would hope his next step is either a Power 5 HC job or DC job. Another option is maybe after 2-3 years of Clark Lea being the DC, Kelly brings Elston up to the DC role to run the same defense that he's had for the last several years. Just a thought. He can do better than Bowling Green though

Kansas, Rutgers, UConn, and Illinois are career enders. Auburn is probably out of reach for a guy like Elston. Not sure if Elston would leave for SJSU. If he could somehow land Louisville, UNC or Ga Tech, however, he should jump ship. Those are great opportunities in a relatively weak conference.

Yeah you have to think that if GT moves on the chances of them keeping that offense will be pretty slim...

I can't believe GA Tech still runs that 1920s high school offense. I understand why Navy has to but GT could do better.

Supposedly Petrino is close to out as Laville is worried that Brohm might not be available much longer

???

Its not like L'Ville would be able to hire him mid season. There might be a few bigger schools looking for a HC this off season. USC in particular.

Other than the alumni thing I can't imagine why Brohm would risk going to Louisville for a rebuild. If Louisville is his dream job, cool. If he wants to get hired by a big fish it makes way more sense to stay at Purdue.

Does BK get an extension this offseason or next?

2019, 2020, 2021. He’s signed for 3 more years after this. If he still wants to coach then absolutely he’s getting an extension this offseason. Especially if the dude makes the playoffs then he’ll have a ton of leverage. He’d probably get another 6 year that would take him thru 2024 or so I’d guess.

I agree for the most part. But Louisville does have more talent, and the ability to recruit better than PU. Louisville is typically a top 30ish or 40ish class. PU, not sure how many times they have been in the top 50 (except for current class under Brohm). I also think he's a smart guy. Does he want to take a medium step for more $, or take a big step for maybe a lot more $, but also a lot bigger risk.

Personally I'd stay at PU, but just a few weeks ago we were wondering what happened to PU after they went 0-3 to open the season. I'd say it's probably easier to win consistently and recruit, at Louisville than PU.

Just depends on his 5-10 year plan.

Wonder if BK wants to stick around that long? Im okay with it as long as he still has the passion for the game

THB, what would he do. I really don't see the NFL beating down his door. Broadcast, politics? I think he's finally enjoying his job. He looks so much more composed, and even smiling more this year. Maybe he's finally having fun.

It only takes one NFL team, like the Bengals.

I'd like to think he's smarter than that lol...
The Bengals actually aren't that bad this year. Not good, but not bad.

What? A job where you're guaranteed that the owner gives you beyond the benefit of the doubt? The Bengals job is gonna be sought after due to the longevity in the job.

BK is set up for the next few seasons so I don't want him out. But if he wants out and John Harbaugh is available...

I'm not a BK fluffer, but I'm going to reserve my judgement and let the season play out.
Personally, I like Harbaugh, but that's a huuuuuuuuge long shot. I can see him going somewhere else 100x over ND.

There are rumors that Jerry Jones is just about done with Garrett and if he makes a change, it will be for a college coach or a young NFL assistant. I guess Lincoln Riley and David Shaw would be candidates
