Hilarious. There have been lots and lots of rumblings of how bad of a coach many players feel Franklin is relative to Bill O'Brien, and this statement from Hackenberg couldn't make it any more clear.

Thats awesome. Penn State can stay as a 7 win nobody for ever with Franklin. Let Temple rise in the ashes that PSU burn in.

I had so many friends tell me their absolute floor was 9-3 and Franklin was a great coach. I'd always say he was a mediocre coach but great recruiter. The fact that they went 7-6 against their shit schedule is inexcusable for Franklin. They won't be more then a 7-5 to 8-4 team as long as he's there. MSU, Michigan, and OSU all being up now kinda screws them for the future too.

PSU had a severe lack of talent after the scandal and it will take a couple more years of recruiting before they are a serious contender.

I am pretty sure during the telecast of their bowl game one of the announcers quoted Franklin as saying if there is anything he learned the hard way was to never take a Head coach position at a school with sanctions. They mentioned he had 1 scholarship OL when he took over... I probably heard it wrong. Did anyone else catch that?

It's good to see that Pitt people still hate Penn State. Can't wait for that rivalry to renew.

2 things:

1. Holy run-on sentence Batman!

2. I love it. I'm not even one to say I hate other coaches like others do, but I can't stand Franklin. All of this is delicious.

One of my least favorite coaches in the country, guy is a super douche.

Still remember when CBS had him on signing day back in 2012 and he said that Vanderbilt has the best of both worlds. Best football and academics in the country and it wasn't even close. He said its actually a really easy sell. Haha, that year ND went 12-0 (made it to the NCG game), Stanford was 12-2 (won the Rose Bowl), and Vanderbilt was 9-4. Thats when I realized that he was willing to say anything to anyone at anytime.

You know, as much as I don't particularly like Franklin, I'm always pro-coach, being one myself. You really have to take whatever parents say with a grain of salt because some of them will always hate. Parents are about as biased of a perspective as you can have because they often only hear what the coach is like via their child, and guess what, if the player isn't playing, they don't like you (typically), and they will blame their lack of playing time or success on you, as opposed to their own effort or abilities.

Small rant, but when you read the crap other team's players or ex-players say about a coach, think about the times some of our own ex-players or players have complained about our coaches. (And posting that kinda crap on social media usually tells you exactly what kind of situation/relationship that is.)

Anyways, let's keep poaching kids from PSU, yeah?

(And yes, I acknowledge that when the hatred for a coach is so widespread as with Franklin, they're probably a doucher.)

The dad subsequently apologized for the outburst. Just so I'm understood, he apologized for the outburst, not for the content.

Before you had crap happening and people got bent all the time. There were the same lies and same screw overs. Difference is that today, everyone feels entitled to tell the world about every slight or perceived slight.

Im not saying the coaches didnt do this. Im just saying people today think their opinion is the only opinion and everyone should hear it.

AMEN!

I can say for every time someone said I sucked, can't teach, won't do this or that...I could pretty much erase my name and put in Jr's name....pretty much how it goes.

Man...I was wrong about Franklin. I thought he was really on the rise, given his success at a place like Vandy. Doesn't look like that's the case at all.

My cousin played for JoePa and O'Brien. Still stays in touch w the team. Said that the players are not high on Franklin because he's really caught up in his own celebrity.

All smoke and mirrors. The guy has never won a game against a ranked opponent, at least not prior to this year - perhaps even still? Not sure how he could have ever been deemed on the rise just because he sucked slightly less than the last Vanderbilt coach.

I'll be honest, I never knew James Franklin was black until it was brought up here.

Black coaches are seriously under-represented in both college and the pros. Especially given the percentage of athletes on the field that are black (nearly 70%). If you don't know that, then you haven't been paying attention.

ETA: If I count right, there are 5 African American head coaches. With four vacancies, that is about 18% of the current coaches in the NFL.

They definitely are underrepresented, but has there ever been a black coach to win a super bowl besides Tomlin? Or national championship?

David Shaw is probably as close to an elite black coach in college football that I've ever seen in my time really following the sport. In the NFL... Marvin Lewis and Tomlin? Is that it?

Coaching is weird to me, because it is and always has been so much about "trees" and connections. I truly wonder if the main barrier to black coaches is that there hasn't been an elite one like a Parcells or Coughlin or Saban to have a "tree" of their own yet.

Tony Dungy probably as well. He won a Super Bowl and arguably could have won another had he not retired.

Anyway, back to PSU, I'm hearing that Miles Sanders is likely to jump ship next.

Penn State's highest rated commit, RB Miles Sanders has scheduled an official visit to Michigan State for the weekend of Jan 29th.

Sanders is rated as the #40 player in the country and the #2 RB on the 247Composite. Strong indication he might flip to the Spartans.

Another one of their commits, 4*, 247Composite Top 250 player DE Daniel Joseph has contacted Michigan to gauge their interest in him, an official might be set up soon.

Penn State turning into a dumpster fire under Franklin. Couldn't happen to a better group of people IYAM.
