My brother is his Offensive Coordinator and I've watch most of his games either in person or video. The kid is explosive. He is a track star as well. I think he would be a good offensive player honestly but even though he is smaller he plays big and isn't afraid to tackle. He has to mature a little but the kid is legit.

Are you the guy posting on ISD?

No I am not. What is he posting?

This was from February... has kept making updates since then:
This is from my brother:

Shawn Crawford from St. Eds high school in Cleveland Ohio received an offer very recently from ND. 8-9 months ago Crawford had indicated he was not an Urban/OSU fan and loved ND ( shared with a St Ed hall of famer named Bob Andrews). My friends close to their program indicated he would be a lock for ND. Then within a week he committed to Michigan? Why....He has been waiting for ND to offer. I received a text yesterday that ND offered and I asked if it was a committable offer. I educated another buddy at St. Eds ( who is Asst hoops coach there and loves ND --but has no affiliation) to understand what that meant and today when he saw him at school he asked Crawford. Crawford said it is commitable. Shaun loves ND but wondered why they got in late? I explained to my buddy the whole story behind Diaco's Mandated size requirements for every position that he never wavered from,... and how Van Gorder arrived in January and picked up players who were talents but didnt fit Diaco's mold. Further , as evidenced by the commitable offer, I am certain VG must have loved Crawford as a player and didnt give a crap about his size. My buddy who sent the texts will follow up with him tomorrow but he had told me weeks ago that if ND came calling, Shaun would switch from Michigan in a second. Eric Flannery (St Eds head hoops coach and brother of 90 DT Bryan Flannery) had told me he suspected that as well two weeks ago. Flannery has sent several players to the NBA ( not to mention hoardes to D1 programs), coached the US under 16 and 18 Olympic teams in South america the last couple of years ....ergo he knows athleticisim. He said Crawford is a great kid, and an elite athlete from a quickness /speed standpoint - but he is on the small side.

I think the writing is on the wall for this one. Fire away but this is credible

In the NFL, almost all top paid CBs are 5'11"+... there has been a shift in philosophy over the years because of how much taller the #1 WRs in the NFL have progressively gotten. However, the case can be made that in the college game small CBs are just as valuable (if not better due to the prevalence of spread offenses).

In the NFL, Brandon Flowers is 5'9". Webb is 5'10". Brent Grimes is 5'10". Cortland Finnegan is 5'10". Tim Jennings is 5'8". Alterraun Verner is 5'10". Those are the only top paid guys that are shorter than 5'11" I could find... but that's 30% of the top 20 guys. So it's far from a total rarity.

IMO, with Crawford being anywhere between 5'9" and 5'10" (and playing almost entirely at safety) it's almost impossible to say where he exactly fits. But I don't think there's much of question that we have enough "big" guys at corner and need to add some more quick "cover" guys. The fact that Crawford is an ATH that could play on either side of the ball is another big plus. Either way we have to make sure this doesn't happen in the future:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/deiN203Dx1s?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This. Also Earl Thomas is 5'10 (I know he's a safety). Obviously you're not going to line a 5'9" corner on a Michael Floyd type wideout, but against a shifty slot receiver Crawford is a huge asset. With the number of multiple wideout sets that teams are playing now, having a good slot corner is essential. Crawford looks like he has some serious wheels, solid technique, and a decent tackler. I think he's absolutely a take.

I see a really fast safety in him. A lot like a Lamarcus Joyner type player.

Any chance this kid cross trains? Seems like he'd be a great asset in nickel/dime packages but also in the slot. I'm not one with experience so I don't actually know if it's a practical idea. I guess I'm just assuming it'd be easier to learn a package for defense while mastering the offense. Note: I wouldn't suggest he be a full time two-way player. Just situational defensive player and full time offense...if that makes sense.

From what I gather from BKs interviews, BVGs scheme, and other information posted here I think that our defense will be versatile depending on who we play. Against spread teams we are likely to see smaller faster players that can play man, defend in space and tackle (which I see more nickle base groups). Other teams like Stanford will require bulk in the front 7 so we could still see bulky 3 or 4-man fronts. Lots of possibilities but I could see him playing FS or CB in BvGs scheme. Maybe not 3 downs each game all season long, but he could play IMO.

As far as a slot, I like Crawford much better at slot than I did Mackenzie.

Regarding cross-training, has anyone actually trained to play both sides of the ball under BK at ND? Several have made position switches, but I cannot think of any that have played both sides during the same season.

My untrained eye sees very loose hips, he looks like he's able to change direction at different speeds without issue. I say keep him on the defense. He looks like a burner but that type of athleticism is hard to find. K. Russell was very similar in that he'd have been a good offensive player but his acceleration and change of direction allow him to be pegged as one of the best CBs in the nation heading into 2014

Cam McDaniel? I think in 2012 he played both ways in some games (miami at soldier field?)

Versatiliity is great in theory, but you are what you practice. If we spend most of our time in more spread out defenses, we are going to be a little weaker against the run, almost inevitably.

Personally, I think Sanders is going to be a beast in the slot. He has that balance/strength that Tate had (not comparing him to Tate overall yet).

CBs are VITAL in our new system. We need to overload on talent on the edges. If any of them get lost in the shuffle, you can move them over later.

Isn't Riggs 5'9" as a 5th year senior? He could play CB for BVG. AM I missing something else other than the staff is fighting over which side of the ball he plays?

5'9" (reported) is small. Can he do it? Yes. Does it make it harder? Yes.

Agreed, and who knows how long KR will be here for. Load up as much as we can.

Talent>Measurables
Offer list>Recruiting Ranking

We've all seen sports for too long now to question mesaureables as often as we do. Does it help? Sure but nowhere near the end all/be all that some have made it out to be, e.g. Diaco.

If this kid can ball and his talent says yes, then sign him up!

He's hearing that Shaun will call the UM staff today and officially decommit. Really just a forgone conclusion when looking at the recent events.

Loy posted on the BGI board a little insight into what Crawford told him after his first visit to campus for Loy to hold that CB this entire time. He told Loy that ND was the best visit he'd ever been on. No matter when ND decides to offer and what his current situation was like he'd be going to ND.

Let's keep it on Shaun, and not post and brag about trolling other fanbase's boards intentionally on here. I know for a fact a ton of members would be irate if the situation were reversed, so please keep that in mind.

Things look promising in terms of possibly adding a very good prospect to the fold relatively soon. Let's keep the discussion on that.

I agree with this. Taunting always comes back to bite you in the ass.

As I somewhat agree with Ironman I also applaud Phork for his effort today. I also applaud the mods on this site to keep the trolls off here. Even though I think some regular posters are trolls. Phork wasn't trolling just throwing a little fuel to the fire.

Sorry I'm tired of being the nice guy. You will not, however, hear in here. You can, however, check the Skunbear thread.

What I'm Hearing: Shaun Crawford (Wed. 5/21)

Did not decommit last night, but did talk to Michigan coaches. Will visit Ohio State May 31st (wants to see what they have to offer as his best friend Parris Campbell was a '14 commitment for the Buckeyes). After that he will make a decision, likely on or before June 8th.

I don't take offense to the word myself, but I'm kind of astounded that the F-bomb is tolerated the way that it is on this site, especially knowing the amount of traffic IE receives via parents of recruits....Sorry for the derail.
