People like Elko aren't looking for low bar/low expectations. He probably thinks he's the best coach in America and there are dozens of others who think the same. Alphas.

Office jobs =/ football coaches. Apples to oranges. Offic jobs are veiled, football coaches are front and center, recognized by all and get the chance to be king - the best ones want all the glory and the heat that comes with it, good or bad.

In that sense it's an interesting call. Elko is more of a Northeast/Midwest guy, and he'd be a natural fit at MSU in a way he might not at Florida. But I'm sure he got a taste of that SEC life at A&M. The question is whether or not he liked it.

Idk man if I were Elko I think that MSU job would be more attractive than Florida. He’ll get paid nearly as much without the expectations. They’re both desperate, but the bar is a hell of a lot lower in EL than with those jorts-wearing knuckleheads in Gainesville.

Plus, MSU has a recent history of being a good place for a defensive-minded coach to build and develop a tough roster (both check marks for Elko), AND the Sparty supporters are surprisingly willing to spend on NIL, which means recruiting might not be as big of a hurdle as it usually is, at least in terms of competing with scUM in the midwest.

Duke is willing to spend on NIL and they have a really good program. Actually they may have the best NIL program i've seen the proper way, especially for their basketball team. Their basketball players are making big time $$ for all sorts of things.

I don't know if it's been talked about but re watching a lot of the game (it felt like this in person) our line, was extremely slow to react off the snap, even Alt who is never slow off the snap. Whatever cadence we were using vs Duke was terrible and didn't work obviously for many reasons. I think that was a big reason coogan and spindler were late on a lot of blocks because our timing to the snap was off. Alt gave up a few pressures, because he was late.

It was NOT loud at duke until the fourth quarter so that wasn't an excuse despite what freeman stated. Maybe the duke dline was doing something to trick Zeke but he's a 5th yr Sr and has been starting games since 2020, he has to be WAY better.

We're going into Louisville, and I expect it to be louder there than duke.

There's wayyy to much learning of basic stuff after the game, and after we fail at something all game. We should have been able to fix that after the first drive.

We dumped BVG, because we were 1-3 and the defense was among the worst in CFB. And that was in year 3. Keep in mind, the three teams ND lost to during that stretch, they gave up 50 to Texas (5-7), 36 to Michigan State (3-9) and 38 to Duke (4-8). They gave up 500 yards of total offense in each of those 3 losses.

Despite a dud performance against Duke, this offense is far from one of the worst in CFB. This is year 1 for Parker.

Lol they fire Parker and Savvy Jack will actually have to spend money!! Not happening.

The other thing with parker is he's a brand new coordinator for the most part, so teams didn't know what he would run. They do now. Lets see how he starts doing with teams having a lot of film now on him and clear tendencies. Does he adjust?

I thought this team should average about 40 ppg this year, we're probably sitting at 35-36 after a really good start offensively. Louisville has a descent D that we should be able to put 30 on, and Clemson has a good D, after that USC, Pitt, Wake, Stanford have bad defenses (Maybe pitt is average) but they've given up like 40 last 2 games each game to unc and vtech.

You'd think, but he has a 6th year pretty darn good QB right now and the best tackle in college and best rb in college. He won't have any of those 3 next year. I expect our RB room to not really drop off, but we won't be as good at QB or LT, especially QB. That's a big deal.

Otoh, his players will be in year 2 of his system. Players will be able to play better knowing the sytem. Look at the defence.

He's an Ivy Leaguer. He's coached at some good academic programs. His first HC job is a Mid Atlantic ACC basketball power with academic standards and he's doing it. His trajectory could go a number of different ways depending on the jobs that open, but man, I think if he were to go somewhere that gave him a little more recruiting slack he could do some damage. He had the whole Jimbo TAMU experience and probably now knows what NOT to do.

His next move is going to be so interesting. He has Michigan State and Northwestern open now, but both of those programs have pretty dark clouds hanging over them. Florida, should it open, would be attractive but then you have the reasons that it would not be. They'll accept him if he wins, if not, or if he stops winning they'll turn on him immediately.

Surely more jobs will become available. He's undoubtedly going to get offers.

That's your own fault. I thought we'd lose that game. Duke was the 17th ranked team on the road after the most gut wrenching loss in a couple decades. They have a really good QB and an excellent defense/defensive coach.

If you're saying you have such a high opinion of this program that we should be crushing fringe top 15 teams on the road by 3-4 touchdowns like we're 2012 Alabama then I guess that's pretty high praise for this coaching staff. I'm sure they appreciate it.

This is where I was too.

I think all of this boils down to there is only so much value in pointing out that we--once again--don't look like a dominant, NC-calibur team. We aren't. That was pretty darn clear coming into this country based on the lack of pass rush, lack of proven WRs, and holes along the O-line.

It's like providing an NFL eval of Tevon Coney after his 5th game dominating the opposition. It's baked in and doesn't need to be constantly repeated.

I thought we would take a step forward. I was worried about Duke if we BEAT OSU, we did not. I didn't expect a 3-4 td win, i expected a 13-17 point win pulling away in the fourth. The team should have been so lasered focused from every coach to every player. They were not. Again, a zillion self inflicted wounds, and not being prepared to snap on the road is crazy, almost as crazy as not getting it fixed. Especially when it wasn't very loud.

I want to believe in Freeman and this staff. Choking at home vs OSU, then squeaking by Duke on the road didn't do it for me. We SHOULD have been able to run on them really well. For a few reasons, we were not able to. The great thing is we won, the season goals aren't over, and we get a top 25 matchup vs a solid team on the road this week. Another opportunity for the team to improve. Freeman talks about improving every game, the only improvement i really saw from OSU to duke was hartman ensuring he gets the first down! Oh, and i think we played with 11 every play.
