Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but as per Josh on the latest OFD podcast, there are rumors swirling that a RB had a significant injury (possibly achilles). He thinks JS. Anyone corroborate this?

I know nothing but that might explain why we’d be pursuing a grad transfer RB.

I'm going to put this here as well. Pretty interesting that we've been doing so well at the combine recently.

247 has a free draft scouting report up for all of the 9 combine attendees from ND. The scout they quote talks extensively about each player's strengths and weaknesses. Pretty scathing. He thinks only Kmet and Claypool and possibly Okawara are eventual NFL starters. Not impreesed with our DB's.

Pass defense was damn good, so I'm thinking our defensive backs were very well coached.

My (probably unpopular opinion) is that when it came to Pride and Elliot, A LOT of that was coaching. I think they both were coached well above their natural ceilings. With Gilman I think he would have performed no matter where he played - dude is a straight gamer with willpower for days.

That said, I tend to agree with the scouts' assessments of our DBs' NFL futures.

If I were a scout, I could not get over how Pride was dominated in every rep against Claypool, and that contested balls continued to be a huge problem throughout the season, no matter who he was up against.

I thought that information would have benefited Claypool a lot more than it has, pre combine.

Claypool had to have a stellar combine just to squeak into day two discussions.

I have a hard time understanding the lack of love for Claypool. Virtually every single game this season he made at least one incredible catch.

It's kind of a catch-22 with Pride.

He didn't get thrown at a lot because he was an elite college corner in a lot of ways. You aren't going to throw at a guy that's taking away half of the field.

On the flip side, if they did target him with a back-shoulder throw, he was astoundingly unable to locate or at least get his hands in position to defend the ball despite really good coverage position.

Teams probably should have tested him more, but maybe they were wise to not do so.

There are some days where I think he was just a much more athletic version of Gary Gray, and other days where I think Pride was an elite corner and just a very unlucky target of perfectly-placed balls and outstanding plays be receivers.

This is secretly huge by BK. He very well may be gone by the time there's any benefit from this, but he's doing this for the future program.

I love it.

Very huge. When his tenure is ultimately over, he'll have achieved a lot more at ND than just W's on the field. Something fans should be grateful for. Excited to see the plans for the Gug.

So now that Mickens is official I'm a little annoyed that Tony Grimes and Ga'Quincy McKinstry haven't committed yet. Are we sure he was the right hire?

I'm pretty surprised we aren't talking more about Kelly calling for the Kevin Austin breakout. I have a feeling he's going to go ham in camp, I guess we'll see.

That was hard to ignore, though I wish he would have actually quoted BK. I want to know exactly what was said.

Obviously there's a lot to like about the article, but the fact that he just completely glossed over Dexter Williams as a game breaking back was a little shocking.

"Kelly is seeking more explosion from the tailback position. In recent seasons, Notre Dame has lacked a back who can burst through a seam and run away from a defense the way C.J. Prosise and Josh Adams did."

Totally agree. His impact on ND Football will be recognized as what returned it to the place it belonged after suffering through 15 years of crap. Give him credit for thinking ND as much as BK. Always thought he was a great hire at a crucial time.
