I might be a traditionalist, but it was special that they went to mass on gameday.
I agree with you, but on the other hand, I can see how having the entire team spend an hour in mass hours before a game could be detrimental to the on the field product. That time could be spent on more pre-game scheming, hype, etc. I am Catholic, but even I think an hour in mass isn't the best way to physically prepare for a game. Mentally is different, as that depends on the person and their level / type of faith.
I think type of faith is important. I could see Mass really getting some people ready to play (Manti would probably dig it considering his whole "holy warrior" persona he takes on the field). But I think it would hurt my overall "mental violence" that I need to play a sport like football.
I think it's probably a good thing for the overall team that we got rid of the pre-game mass. I think it's good that they still do it the night before though, since spirituality is traditionally such a big part of ND's football team.
I didn't want to make this its own thread or anything, but here's a breakdown of majors for the current team (I don't know why I'm interested in this, but if anyone else is curious here's the legwork done for you):

I loved the few sociology classes I took, but I believe it is hard to get a job in the sociology field. Not as bad as philosophy though.
