If Jon or Arya or someone from House Stark doesn't kill a fekin Lannister in a real brutal way... perferably Jamie... by time the latest book comes out I think I'm done here... There is only so much investing in good characters only see them stabbed through the heart by evil degenerates I can take.

You have much to look forward to. Stick with it.

If you feel like the "good guys" are getting a raw deal, it's likely because you're focused only on the struggle for the Iron Throne in Westeros. If you look at the big picture, and count how many of them have actually died, it'll help give you some perspective.

To the point I have read thus far they all died... ALL OF THEM., well almost.

I won't even say 'good guys', just those i connect with/ root for... I won't list those i liked so to not spoil too much, though I guess it's already past that... but only two characters i really enjoy are even left in the series midway through book 3... and I have enjoyed quite a few... and My sister-in-law gave away that one of the two that are left almost certainly dies at the end of the latest book... Right now i am feeling a bit cheated with the past three weeks of reading I invested to be honest...

I will give Martin this though, he knows how to tell a compeling story from multiple angles, and make you connect to multiple characters... not an easy thing to do... I just don't see why he insists on killing all of them while taking exactly one of the the many I have been wanting to see die... and even he didn't die violently... sonofabtich!!!!

I do like how it is minimal fantasy... altough I also wish he would leave the little fantastical elements he does have out... yes, I know it's fantasy, but that is what kept me from giving it a try for so long to begin with...

I know this much... Fekin Jamie needs to be ripped open and Cersei needs to be forced to eat the innards….. before being burned…

…..

anyway...

I actually find Jamie to be pretty relate-able, I hope he stays around for a while. Cersei on the other hand...

Yeah, I agree, Jamie becomes a really interesting character in the later books and I'm excited to see what happens with him ... Cersei is interesting too, I guess, but not enough that I'd care if Martin killed her off. She is just too awful.

Arya's story line is the most frustratingly slow to develop. I'm dying to see what happens with her in the last 2 books.

it might be slow but it is honestly the best one. You just have this feeling the whole thing is going to end with her doing something.

Exactly, that's just what I mean by "frustratingly slow to develop." It's one of my favorite storylines and I think it's going somewhere really interesting, but it's taking a really long time to get there. Every time a chapter ends I hope the next one is about Arya, but all too often it is not, which is frustrating.

While Tyrion is my favorite character, I've probably enjoyed Arya's and Bran's storyline more than anyone else in the series. I think both Arya and Bran will play major roles in the last two books, especially the former. I hope so anyway.

I don't think Sansa's has gone anywhere since book 3 either. There is an occasional look-in, including the end of ADWD, but she could have grown old and died for all we know.

He has already reappeared. In Oldtown.

Sooooooo all spoilers are fair game in this thread?

In that case, am I under the correct assumption that Jaquen assumed Pate's identity after offing him? That was my read on how all that went down.

probably should make a rule of staying away from spoilers that are past the point of the series.

what book?

Prologue of AFfC, and later in the same book.

Since the cat's already out of the bag, this^

The Alchemist, who pays Pate a golden dragon for Archmaester Walgrave's key, is described as looking exactly like Jaqen H'ghar's "new" face when he left Arya-- slight scar on the right cheek, hooked nose, and thick black curly hair. He proceeds to kill Pate via a poison coin, a method of assassination used by a Faceless Man in training. Someone appearing to be Pate later welcomes Samwell Tarly into Archmaester Marwyn's study, which is presumably Jaqen using Pate's face.

*WARNING- POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

Just curious, did you put this together on your own, or did you discover this by reading something online (like the westeros message board)? Because I never put two and two together on this one (Jaqen and the man who killed Pate). It makes perfect sense though, though I'm not sure why Jaqen would be involved with Sam and the Maesters...

I plan on checking out a lot of the stuff on the westeros message board when I finish ADwD (about 300-400 pages or so away). I feel like there's so many things I'm going to discover that I overlooked while reading. lol

Sorry if I shouldn't be posting this due to potential spoilers.

ha, I will assume the italics were intended but not used....

It is not that I am unimpressed. It's a fantasy tale that doesn't make my mind melt from the stupidity of it all... that my friends, is saying something… and some of the acting is top notch. I just enjoy the books much more and it goes beyond the simple, “books are always better” rule, the reasons for this are already stated.
