Francois Hollande says France is at war with ISIS after two Islamist knifemen butchered a French priest and left a nun fighting for her life before they were both shot dead by police in Normandy.

One of the men who stormed into the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray near Rouen during mass was a local man, who was being monitored by electronic tag after being jailed for trying to join fanatics in Syria.

The 84-year-old priest, named as Jacques Hamel, had his throats cut while a nun is critically injured in hospital following the raid which saw five people held hostage by ISIS assailants shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.

This afternoon it emerged that the murdered clergyman was deputising while the parish priest was on holiday. French authorities say they have arrested a third man in connection with the attack.

The two killers were 'neutralised' by marksmen as they emerged from the building, which is now being searched for explosives. French president Hollande said France is 'at war' with ISIS while the terror group has claimed responsibility for the killing.

It comes as it emerged that the building was one of a number of Catholic churches on a terrorist 'hit list' found on a suspected ISIS extremist last April.

There are also reports that one of the attackers was a local resident who was under electronic tag surveillance having been jailed in France for trying to travel to Syria in 2015

In the interest of multi-culturalism, trying to be the good guys, and desperately trying to not appear to discriminate, they're allowing their citizens to be slaughtered by people who share none of their values or ideals, and are using those very values and ideals of openness, tolerance, and trust against them. Until they (and us) finally come to grips with the fact that bad people don't play nice and by the rules, these types of horrible things will continue.

This is awful to hear that. France, Belgium, and now Germany seem to be the breeding grounds. I am sure there were quite a few militants that came over in the more than 1,000,000 refugees to Germany last year. Something has to change and stop.

I know that it is easy to say it, and its their job, but the media needs to stop glorifying this too. This is exactly what ISIS wants, it is to provide terror and get the attention to spread their cause to attract more to their fight, even though they are losing in Syria and Iraq now. All of these lone wolfs are activated, or being activated. It seems like everyday their is another one off attack.

Agree 100%. People really need to wake up. So much time and energy spent on not stepping on toes and walking around on eggshells. Sometimes things are what they are.

This one is more disturbing to me than most - directly attacking a priest IN a church. Makes me think conceal carry for our ushers is not a ridiculous thought for the world taking shape before us.

Sadly, this is the world we now live in. My mom's church has never had any sort of incident, nor has any other church in her community that I know of, but her church and others in the area now have ushers who are carrying concealed weapons just in case. Sad it's come to that.

The government does it's job well but they'll never prevent 100% of incidents from happening. Which is why it's always up the individual to protect themselves.

Hundreds of thousands of immigrants are flooding to France, Germany, America, without any intention of assimilating. Lots of them are here to terrorize (of course not all). Government is here to serve and protect the people so a legal system fits the criteria

Did you know that there was an Immogration act in America from 1928 to about 1952 (about)? The US wanted immigrants to do so legally and to assimilate to our culture. They had to limit to 2%. You can read about it. Yet the mainstream media doesn't talk about this.

The point is governments can do more but choose against it. In fact governments continue to push gun control which is the last line of defense we can have for ourself.

I know it's because i'm catholic but this hit me harder than pretty much any other attack. The way liberals in Europe defend these immigrants is disgusting.
