What? When did this happen? lol

He's been durable all this season though. Let's hope it stays that way.

I don't get how this makes sense. His skill set is immense, but it doesn't really translate to returning punts. I just hope he doesn't get hurt.

ndeconprof as in Notre Dame Economy Professor?

Is this a Keynesian model projection?

Haha. I don't know how accurate it is, but thought it was intriguing enough to post questioningly.

All he did was fair catch. We need a playmaker back there

Once again, we need punt blockers first.

Although I will admit, I didn't watch the second half because I was too busy whooping *** in a game a football. I was also sucking wind. lol

And what would you have done with 4 or 5 defenders standing around you as you pull the punt in?

The rushers don't engage the rear blockers for pressure and the rest of the defense lets the gunners (and everybody else) pass like they were setting up a screen pass. It doesn't appear that ND is going for a block nor trying to set up a run.

According to some tweets by Eric Hansen, Floyd approached Kelly about wanting to learn punt returner and was staying after practice to learn the skill set and gain confidence.

Flyod won't get hurt doing this if he fair catches when he should. Our point coverage is so horrendous her will fair catch them all just looked everyone else has had to. We just need someone back there that will catch it after they make the fair catch signal.

With how bad our blocking has been on punt return, I don't feel comfortable having our best player back there taking grenades.

I feel pretty comfortable with whatever Kelly is comfortable with, you don't think he knows how important floyd is to our team?

?

Ummmm, yeah. I'm saying that's probably why he hasn't had him return any.

He had him return 2 yesterday....and he hasn't had him return to that point because our blocking sucks and I don't think Floyd is quick enough laterally to make you really miss in the open field. All I'm saying is if Kelly feels that Floyd is capable and if Floyd likes the idea who are we to judge...Kelly has a lot more riding on these decisions than we do.

Anythihg but Goodman, we have too many good athletes not to be able to do better than we have been. Nothing against Goodman .

I know. That is what I have been saying to everyone calling for Goodman's head. Sure it would be great to have a more dynamic returner but until someone actually blocks, i prefer a man who can catch.

Let's be serious.... there was a punt in the Michigan game that Goodman fair caught with no one within 20 yards of him. And he's had multiple "bad" returns. I don't think anyone cares about the times where he has to fair catch it, people care about the times where he goes backwards or blows easy chances for a positive return.

So yeah, the blocking has been bad, but that doesn't mean Goodman has been doing an adequate job at all. He's been dreadful and muffed one at a CRITICAL juncture against MSU.

Again. work on blocking first then worry about the rest. Like we saw yesterday. Our best player did not do a DAMN thing on punt returns. So you can point to the 1 time he dropped the ball all you want but there are significantly bigger problems on special teams.

You guys remind me of my high school trainer who always said put ice on it. Well ice isn't much help when a bone is sticking out your arm.

Michael Floyd:
1. Didn't run backwards
2. Didn't drop the ball

So yeah, there are other problems... but I think your priorities are inverted. To start, you have to be able to reliably field the ball and not run in the wrong direction. I don't know how you can say blocking is a "bigger" problem than being able to catch the damn thing and know which direction to go.

My priorities are inverted? If the o-line sucks you don't pull the RB to improve the ground game.

Also harping on 1 dropped punt is like saying Gray should never play again after his fumble against USF. He dropped 1 in 2 years. But then again, I am not the type to quit on a player after a mistake.

Pulling Goodman DOES NOT fix anything if you can not set up a return. Fix the real issue then talk about making a switch to Goodman. Otherwise your just risking injury to a starter when someone who can field the ball reliably.

Catch the ball 1st, blocking is second, and then the return is 3rd. The 1st punt yesterday, no even touched the snapper who was the 1st guy in Floyd's face.
