Excellent news!

I love this quote:

"The last four months have been the most humbling stretch of time in my life," Floyd said. "I embarrassed myself, my family, the university, my football team and many more people. I know it will take time to earn the trust and confidence from everyone I let down last spring but I am prepared to do so and will strive to become not just a leader on the team again, but one also in the community. I am grateful for the opportunity to earn my degree this year from the University of Notre Dame and I look forward to reuniting with my football family this fall."

He knows he screwed up and is willing to do anything to prove that he's changed. That, initself, shows me that he's learned his lesson. I'm looking forward to seeing him on the field come September.

Encouraging quotes, for sure. Hope for his and his family's sake that he has truly seen the error in his ways, and can become a better man for it.

agreed. and honestly, after having gone thru this....it may push him to be an even better football player. i really can't wait to see him play. last season he seemed disinterested in some of the games....hopefully this has balanced him out and we will see a more focused player.

which could mean bad things to come for opposing defenses.

I feel like Kelly's trying to fight back a smile that Michael's back during the whole interview.

I'm glad this new came out now and not the week before the season. Let everybody write there articles on ND not holding themselves to a higher standard and Floyd getting special treatment, blah, blah.

Looking forward to the season.

And so it begins:

Not much to see here, but don't ever try to tell me Notre Dame is cleaner than any other school.

What is he going to say next time? You know...when Floyd kills someone while drunk, or one of his players rapes or fondles another woman, or he puts yet another student in danger due to a neglect of his responsibilities? Not only as a coach, but as a human being?

I may be a Trojan, but I'm also a practicing Catholic...and as such, I'm ashamed of Notre Dame's recent "issues" and the hypocrisy of stating you stand for one thing, but fail to live it.

They're no better than any secular university...and actually worse, because they claim that God is their figurehead. Baloney.

Say what you will about Weis, but he ran a pretty tight ship, IMO when it came to his players off the field stuff and academics. Just couldn't win enough games.

Kelly is another tressel

Not quite related, but close enough: ND needs to stop this act they have going about "doing things differently". Their new coach has played an obviously concussed player, ran a program found guilty of multiple workplace safety violations by IOSHA (that resulted in a death) and now has reinstated a player that apparently would have been in deep **** with the school itself, not just the football team, even a couple years ago.

Why am I not surprised. This is the same coach who told his team at Cinci at the end of the regular season that he wasn't leaving and left them before their BCS bowl. Kelly is a scumbag like many others who coach. It is a win at all costs mentality.

wearesc and mgoblog

Those people are what we like to call "super-simple."

Great news on Mike. I think Kelly handled the situation perfectly. He made Mike earn his way back onto the team through his actions. Announcing 4 months ago that Michael would miss the USF game and then proceeding as if nothing happened may have been seen as "real" punishment to the idiots on wearesc and mgoblog, but it would have been doing a disservice to the young man and letting him off easy. That would have been a one day punishment rather than a four month lesson.

Gotta love NDs PR people... I'm sure they met with Kelly about this. Back when the school said they wouldn't suspend him (they'd leave it up to Kelly) they announced it the day of some other major sports news (it might have involved Tiger, I honestly can't remember) and now, the day after Garcia gets reinstated back onto SCs football team after getting kicked off 5 times!!!

Floyd getting reinstated doesn't look nearly as slimy as a kid being reinstated after being suspended from the team 5 times.

Go Irish!

And so it begins:

I was going to write something pithy regarding those comments, but I realized that what they have to say isn't really important. They know that when Michael's in the game, they don't stand a chance. The only way to shut those bastages up is to go knee-deep and kick their chicken-s#it a$$es.
