Just heard this on ESPN Radio.

Could really help them in recruiting. (Not that they need any)

IMO, this would make it more likely that A&M is headed to the SEC since FSU would keep the numbers even.

Is this going to be the end of the Big 12?

Yes unless they get Boise St, BYU, or some other above average program to join in a hurry

If the Big 12 goes, that will most likely instigate the seismic shift we're always talking about--drastic realignment and the formation of super-conferences. ****

Miami would prolly join the SEC, and the ACC would merge with the Big East making one, the SEC would expand further, the Big Ten would add the best candidates to get them to 16, as would the Pac-12. It could all go down, because I don't think one conference is going to let the others grow without response. Hypothetical of course, but it would certainly be comparable.

I was told over a year ago that if FSU got an invite to the SEC, they would join.

If the Big East absorbs any Big 12 schools with solid football programs, that would probably trigger a complete break between the football and non-football participants. I think that would really affect ND other sports in a significant and negative way.

Our independence could go away one day in the not too distant future. Sheesh...that would kind of suck. We'd to the the Big 10 I'm guessing.

Why would they? They have a much easier road to BCS bowls and the NC now than they ever would in the SEC. How can their recruiting be any stronger? Unless the money is WAY better...

I was wondering about this myself.

SEC is a more solid conference and FSU is closer to the SEC schools then it is to the ACC

It all comes down to money. If FSU and aTm don't think they'll significantly increase revenues by joining the SEC, then it's nothing more than posturing.

Until I read a financial justification for the move, I'll remain skeptical.

Well, television contracts aren't everything but this is a snippet from an article discussing the new ACC deal and comparing it to the SEC's:

The [ACC] deal is expected to pay roughly $1.86 billion over 12 years, which amounts to $155 million per year, according to an industry source cited in the report. The yearly sum is more than twice the average amount of $67 million the league was receiving during its previous contract. However, it falls short of the $205 million the SEC receives from ESPN as part of its 15-year deal.

The SEC and ACC have the same number of teams (right now) so overly simplistic math would tell me that the average SEC team has just over $4 million more in television revenue alone. Based on that ratio, I'm sure the SEC's licensing agreements are also more valuable.

Obviously, this assumes that all members are treated equally which is probably not the case. I feel confident that the SEC does have more money to spread around.

Yeah, it could also be posturing. The ACC's television contract revenue basically doubled with the new ESPN deal.

Perhaps Florida State's absence would jeopardize the new and lucrative TV contract. In which case, FSU could be trying to get preferential status ($) from the ACC.

How many national championships does the ACC have compared to SEC? Enough said.

And since the conferences share bowl money, FSU's dramatically lower chances of making it into the BCS wouldn't hurt much financially.

Ugh, now I'm worried...

Financially that's worked for Vandy but is FSU going to be content be an SEC also ran for $4 or 5 million more a year?

In '02 FSU was 9-5 and ACC Champs
'03 10-3 and ACC Champs
'05 8-5 and ACC Champs

They went to a BCS Bowl automatically each time. They lost them all but still got the big paycheck. In the SEC those 4 loss regular season records would make them a candidate for the Chick Fil A bowl, where the SEC's #5 team goes. IF FSU foolishly joins the SEC, don't look for Miami or Notre Dame on their schedule.

Did I not get the memo that today was national let's start a rumor day?

To replace aTm in Big12:

“@kbohls: Top names UT, I mean Big 12, will consider from several sources: Notre Dame, BYU, Air Force in that order.”

Just makes it harder for FSU to make it to that National Championship. Now a days schools want the easy way to a championship, hence the reason they schedule so many DII schools. The ACC would make it alot easier to make it there, even to a BCS game.

I know this is random and not relevant to the thread and I alSo don't know if someone already posted this in another thread since I've been on a cruise this whole week but thought it was interestin since it talks about some of the teams that are involved with this conference movement.
* love that it rips on teams that usually get glory and instead glorifies ND.

ESPN NCAAF Tease teams can't live up to the hype

Along with A&M and FSU it also appears Missouri and Clemson will jump to the SEC as well.

Doubt this is happening. For one, Missouri makes little sense. Yeah I guess they have a southern element to them, but geographically they are the midwest. Secondly, Missouri and Clemson are average sports programs with A&M a little above average. FSU would be the only homerun in that group.

Secondly, I've been reading on this a lot, and there is a vote Monday. Apparently Florida, South Carolina, and UGA are definitely blocking it. If you receive 4 votes then the deal is blocked. Now that it is only three teams, but I have seen some sources say that Kentucky is involved in that "alliance" as well.

While I highly doubt it happens that all four will join, if they do this is the end of our independence. We will likely join the Big 10 along with Texas, Kansas, and probably the Oklahoma schools

I still don't see you guys joining the B10, all of it really hinges on what Texas does.

It is 1AA that play D1 schools.

I hate to see it, but geography doesn't matter anymore. Since when are Utah and Colorado on the Pacific? Neither of them are even in the Pacific time zone.

It's all about the money.
