Florida Fallout from Last Night

Really nice, but boy his teammates could have used some of his heart and school pride last night. They talked the talk, but couldn't even begin to back it up. Every play a Florida player was trash talking and they had some cheap shots too.

Good to see someone who didn't even play had a fine display of pride for Florida.
That was a proud moment for his family, embarrassing moment for the university and football program, just no discipline.

Kudos to you, Darrin Kitchens

He'll get cut and replaced to help with recruiting.

So sad, and so true. It makes me so sad/angry he had the spirit to pay respect to the school, its fans, and its band, and everyone left him in the lurch.

The good news is this will be covered by PTI and Around the Horn so he will get props for doing the right thing, and the program will get bashed for being so selfish.

Sadly Florida only had one player with the heart of a champion last night and the fact that more Florida "fans" aren't embarassed about that speaks volumes.

Wow, I am at a loss for words. One young man goes to sing his Alma Mater after a loss in The Sugar Bowl. Too bad. College football as some of us older folks have known it is going away right before our eyes. What is the cause? One would think the southern programs would tend to keep traditions alive. Where are the f'n coaches?

The game meant something to Darrin Kitchens. One person is a winner on that team.

Is it not normal for the team to participate after a loss? I don't want to be too quick to judge.

I think the most harrowing aspect is the fact that his teammates were still milling around on the field and NOBODY joined him. That's like leaving a wounded soldier behind in battle. Unacceptable, and inexcusable, regardless of team tradition.

*A few UF alumni commented on the story and basically said how that was always a big part of the game, and they were ashamed the team didn't participate, so I'm assuming its something done win or lose.

Basically affirms everything I already thought about that program. Thank God for this one classy individual.

This is a prime example of why Kelly recruits kids with talent AND heart. If the rest of UF's players had this kind of pride, the outcome of the Sugar Bowl is probably quite a bit different.

Good on him. That kind of stuff chokes me up. This says as much about the rest of the Florida program as it does about him, though.

Singing your Alma Mater is something that can be taught by the coach.

Blame Muschamp.

LOL, I was talking to a friend about it a little while ago. He is a Georgia fan. I didn't watch the game but he said Muschamp and several players were total jackasses during and after the game. He said it was disgusting.

Poor guy also had a nasty helmet to helmet hit in the FSU game a year ago. He was carted off the field, but appeared to be okay. Shows a lot of heart, good to see someone at Florida remembers tradition and shows support after a tough loss.

...gues I just don't get it.

I can see Muschamp being mad at the refs, being disappointed in the program...the kids being mad about being throttled...

but isn't singing the Alma Mater to honor your fans who've come to support you, your faculty and staff who've supported you, the band and cheerleaders who tried to do their part...a simple gesture to say thanks...to bring some perspective back into the losing process.

Why would you snub those people...

I mean I get folks acting in their own best interest...I get teenagers being self-centered and entitled...but football has always been the vehicle to CURE those failings if your program is lead by a man of character...

I've lost a ton of respect for Muschamp...this is on him

Good on him. Atleast there is hope that the heart and class can spread.

Kitchens will probably get his scholarship pulled for Conduct Unbecoming, that is, failure to show arrogance after an unimportant game his team's fans weren't into.

Despite ALLGATOR's amusing protestations to the contrary, at least some Gator fans were into it and aren't happy today. Check out the link I posted a post or two up.

Good for him. At the end of the day, Kitchens understands that this university (and fans) has given him as much as he's given it. Little sad looking at that picture of a guy that cares so much, stand there alone.

Best of luck to him.

Proud of this young fella, Kitchen. At least one guy out there in Ghey-Turd-Land knows what it is to display discipline, self-sacrifice, pride, sportsmanship and love for his home school. This young man has his head screwed on right and his priorities in check. Well done.
