Speaking of media forgetting bowl games, has anyone read that recent story on the Athletic about how Michigan's defense was only bad for fifteen minutes against Notre Dame and fifteen minutes against Ohio State? The Peach Bowl apparently was just something I imagined.

...another example of "fake news"? And why then does their longtime D line coach sail off to their #1 rival?

Sounds like Michael Young went down with a shoulder.

Maybe we can lay off our DBs tackling to the ground for the rest of camp? IDK. Not blaming the coaches but if it's another collar bone to another starting Skill player, that's enough for me.

Yeah I'm all for being physical in practice but we can't afford to lose starters in camp. We already know we won't see Austin for a few games so depth might get thin if anyone else gets hurt

This Is football fellas... The weak get weeded out anyway and the best survive.

Matt Freeman expects Michael Young to be out an extended amount of time.

Sweet. We should have another full tackle practice.

That blows. I was expecting a big year from him.

If it's anything like the Kmet injury, then tackling had nothing to do with it. He came down bad on his collarbone trying to make a catch.

Irish fans have long lamented 'soft practices'.

When we hear there's full contact and someone gets hurt, all of a sudden we want soft practices.

So goes the life of a fanatic.

I liked Young a lot. Particularly because he was a smaller receiver who was also a tenacious and physical blocker.

I do think with Keys, we have more upside. I like him a bit better laterally and in space than Young, but it all depends on whether he's got the little things down.

I'm more worried about communication with the QB and drops with the younger WRs. They have a lot of potential but we won't really know if losing Young will be that big a deal until the first game, maybe not until Georgia.

Keys and Wilkins have been getting a pretty healthy amount of reps this offseason.

Young had all of 7 receptions last year, so he wasn't exactly a seasoned veteran.

Losing Young is a big loss. Not because we don't have anyone else but because he was really coming on strong this fall.

We're now down a starting TE, starting WR and probably our 3rd-4th best WR in Austin. The other guys better put in the work, we're going to need them the first few weeks.

This is a big injury because he had developed into a really solid do-it-all #2 option. Great blocker, explosive down field, good route running. And you’re without Kevin Austin to be a #2.

We’re now about one injury away in the pass catchers from being in big trouble.

I've seen an ND team that avoided live tackling and it was awful. Hint: I think it was in the Weis years.

Don’t know if you read the article but the methods they’ve used have not worsened their tackling and have not prevented them from winning. By all accounts it has improved it all. Just so you know ND and Texas have both purchased a robot dummy and Nick Saban is studying Dartmouth very closely to see about implementing some of what Dartmouth is doing.

Young was injured in 1-on-1's. Nothing to do with tackling. You play how you practice. If you practice soft then you play soft. Gotta bring the physicality to practice if you want to play physical in games.

I am (naively perhaps) not too concerned about our receiver situation. Some time ago, a national commentator was responding to Coach Kelly's talent assessment and development strengths. Rather than saying that he was a QB guru (which he is not, despite the amazing job with Rees), the commentator said that "Kelly can create a good pass receiver just by breathing on him."

My opinion about periods where we didn't seem as dangerous as we should hope to be is that the fault was in our QBs not our receiver talent. This year we have the QB. These receivers will get open enough for him.

One year when Davie was coach we had zero injuries in camp and word leaked out the didn't hit in fear of injury.

We sucked.
