i am surprised that shayne simon hasn't made more noise....i know he was a player of the day at practice but let's be real.....they are trying to get as many different people each practice to be player's of the day....w/ lea saying he just soaks up info, he's a physical speciman just thought he would have been turning heads

BK interview with Nolan today:

Doerer looked "really good"
PJ looked great, "especially deep throws"
Sweet Lou made an appearance/speech!

I was starting to worrying about PJ, but I'm back on the hype train! He's going to be a great QB for us one day.

Definitely some disappointment for me as well. I was really hoping him and Lamb would lock down those spots for the next 2-3 years. Though there is still a lot of time for him to do so and I'm not one to write off sophomores, especially those that didn't EE.

I was looking at it from a team record perspective.

I don't think PJ would every allow a ND team he was a starting QB to go 4-8.

Also I give him the edge in athleticism over Kizer.

Jesus Christ do I hate these arguments. See the offense in 2008... Yep, Clausen (and Tate, and Floyd) let that team lose all those games. FFS, that's just not how the game works.

Not worth arguing about I suppose, but last year I wasn't touting Wimbush at this point, I was touting Book. And still am. Book's ability to deliver rapidly and on-time is what makes our OLine a great one --- masking some deficiencies. His ability to assess the short zones rapidly is what makes our tight ends and slots now dangerous, again without having good-but-not-AA-obvious talent there. His performance last season gives him the in-huddle street-cred which inspires the rest to give the next play all they've got.

All that will win vs MI, VA, VT, USC, Stanford et al. If Jurkovec can beat those teams without some of those Book qualities (yet) then that will be a pleasant surprise and of course one I hope for fervently.

We still have almost 3 weeks before the first game. Everything is worth arguing about right now. I routinely pick internet fights to keep the boredom at bay.

I don't think your intent was to slight Clausen, but I don't remember seeing him play on the defense that couldn't stop anybody during those years. I remember several comebacks led by Clause that were lost by the defense right after ND had regained the lead.

After analyzing the practice videos, the defense has me disappointed. None of these guys have the motor and determination that Zion Azuma Losi had.

Ian vs Phil -
Wouldn't it be great if PJ could push for the job?
Wouldn't it be great if he actually is a better athlete with a better arm who develops accuracy and on field awareness?
Wouldn't it be be great if he comes into some early games when ND has a nice lead and lights it up?
Wouldn't it be great if he develops chemistry with Lenzy, Keys and Wilkins during 2nd team reps?
This isn't a zero sum game - for PJ to develop and grow into his potential, IB doesn't need to shrink in his ability.

I'm not saying PJ starts one single game in 2019, but having someone ready to step into the shoes and potentially move the position forward in 2020. That's why he had those 4 stars, its about potential and athletic ability. Now he and the ND coaching staff need to turn that into football ability in 2019 and forward.

It sounds like that might be happening.....or it's the BK hype train trying to get the kid some confidence.

We all knew PJ could sling it deep, the troubling thing was that his shorter passes had the funkiest movement at the end. It made it hard for WRs to catch balls, even when the pass was on time/accurate.

The Irish Illustrated guys said they didn’t see that weird motion in the last few practices (except for one occasion). If PJ has shown signs of getting that fixed, then there’s no reason to doubt BK’s sincerity. Let’s hope the progress continues because this offense could be truly explosive with a capable Jurkovec at the helm.

Anybody else ever think that the 2015 team was a decent DC away from being national champs that year? It's unbelievable how much talent was on that D and for it to be that mediocre.

That scab hasn't fully healed. Leave it alone.

TJJ's career has always, sort of, reminded me of Jonas Gray...buried on the depth chart, nagging injuries, great practice reports, etc.

Let's see if he can have a similar type of senior breakout season.

Jones showed what he can do against USC. He isn't going to settle for #2. I expect him to split carries 60/40.

Big play, no doubt but I think that was more just a beautifully timed play than anything TJJ really did. I'm sure Jafar (probably every RB on the roster) is making a house call on that play as well.

Agreed. I just looked it up on youtube because I thought TJJ stumbled going upfield. He actually almost dropped the pass, caught it with his thigh. But the fun part was watching Boykin tell him to cutback and then flattening the DB. Great play, highly recommend a re-watch 10/10

It was a great play. If I remember correctly, he even juggled the ball a little, didn't catch it cleanly. But once he had it, he made the most of a brilliant play call.

The kind of block downfield by 81 that gets you noticed by Pro Scouts.. Way to go Miles. Chase also a great blocker who finishes blocks and punishes DBs. His time to shine this year.

Miles completely trucked that USC defender. Might be my favorite play of the year by a receiver. That or the pass Finke took out of the Michigan defenders hands
