I am going to say
Clarke
Williams
Bertrand

And Kiser. They also say Liufau is crazy fast but he needs a year or two in teh weight room.

Then don't forget Lacey and Foskey. Even Nana and Howard Cross look good.

KJ Wallace is already showing very well. Don't forget Harrison Leonard who appears poised to seize a kicking job if he continues on his current path.

Per Sampson
Hamilton had a INT and Forced Fumble.
IMO he’d be starting if we didn’t already have two studs at safety.

so where do we play him?

Putting everything together, it sounds like he will come on in nickel situations which ND will use often to make him a one high safety. They would then bring Gilman down toward the LOS where he can be a glorified linebacker.

It also sounds like they will keep JOK on the field when they do that and take either the Mike or Buck off the field.

Wu with another INT of Ian Book while covering Finke. That makes 3 over 3 (viewed) practices. Hype ceiling needs to be raised, lol.

Correction as the media has only seen 3 practices. In addition, Hamilton had another INT today. Making 5 over 3 for him. Also forced a fumble laying the wood on Jahmir Smith.

Sounds like Bracy stood out today, with Vaughn getting some rest, at Field CB. Also came up with a nice INT.

Second straight viewing of Drew White at Mike and Bilal at Buck as the 1’s.

Seems unanimous that this was the best day for the DL and not just Okwara. Interior guys (MTA, Jayson, Lacey) got a lot of penetration. Less big runs. More movement upfront. Etc.

Sounds like it's gonna be White/Bilal for standard downs, with Bilal/Lamb for passing downs, but it'll be interesting to see how that meshes with the packages where they move Gilman down towards the line.

Either way, very reassuring to hear the ILBs are having a solid camp so far. We knew they were fast and athletic, but they appear to be knowing where to go and are tackling well. Two major concerns going into fall.

Further cementing my lack of concern for the interior DL. MTA's gonna MTA. Jay isn't far behind. Lacey is a mountain of a human with Ents for legs. Hinish is a rock in the middle.

Don't know if I should be happy for the pass D or worried about year two QB under Kelly regression.

I actually think you’ll see Wu and Lamb in passing downs. It’ll be interesting to see if in nickel they commit to Gilman up front with Hamilton coming in or do a combo with Crawford, Davis, Wallace.

That's my thought.

Doesn't sound like Owusu is a guy you can take off the field currently, especially in down and distance situations.

Really interesting how they lineup in passing downs.

Gilman moving into the box sounds intriguing. I wonder if that means they bring Hamilton/Crawford in as another back safety, and take one of the ILB out, or if it's just Elliott back there.

My guess is that it'll vary game to game, based on personnel. Owusu is just an athletic freak of nature, so unlike last season, you don't have to take the Rover out of the game in favor of Nickel.

yep add Lacey to my list. I forgot he was a fresh. Seems like they talk about him like he is a soph.

From the hype and based on last year, this might be the best defensive backfield the QBs throw into all year.

Right now, when Gilman is at “linebacker,” Hamilton is coming on and playing deep middle, with Elliott playing more shallow in coverage, and Gilman doing a little bit of everything

Love the creativity. The Elko/Lea philosophy has always been about player talents.

I thought the coaches have been praising DJ Brown since he was working on the scout team last fall. Keep in mind Brown’s best asset is extremely high football IQ, which obviously bodes well for safety position in this defense. I think the coaches feel extremely comfortable with Brown being the first or second safety to come in off the bench in meaningful minutes. And also to start next year alongside Hamilton.

I could be completely wrong and making that all up in my head. And the staff doesn’t trust DJ, which is why Crawford is playing some safety. Crawford at safety could be Bob Sanders 2.0?

Lol, is this a joke? Crawford is the most oft-injured player on the team. Crawford has a small frame, Bob Sanders was short but 210+ lbs of heat-seaking muscle.

They share one fact: they've both often succumbed to injuries but Crawfords injuries are fluky and Sanders were from incredible wear and tear and not knowing how to hit someone at speeds <100%.

Sanders would've never played nickel, he was a downhill safety.

Re: DJ Brown, I hope he continues to grow because I have no idea how much the coaches trust him. i think we know who our top 3 safeties are and if Houston moves back to safety, we probably know who our top 4 safeties are.

That came out a little more dick-ish that intended. I just meant to say I see almost no resemblance between Crawford and Bob Sanders, potentially the best downhill safety I've ever watched.

Just flipped through yesterday's practice photos.... Couple that with the reports of the offense and defense trading blows at each practice...

I'm fighting my inner fanboi. I don't usually drink koolaid but these recent practice reports have me like:

Sunday MVPs - per BK twitter

- Asmar
- Shayne
- Mike Young

Seeing Asmar and Shayne on this list makes me happy....Also, Mike is breaking out this year and I wouldn't be surprised if he leads the team in YPC (excluding a low sample size from Lenzy/Keyes bombs).

It's just a handful of reps there but it looks like Phil J has really cleaned up his throwing motion.
