Just a wildly fun WC tourney especially starting in the knockouts.

I still can’t Argentina won, now an hour later.
It just seemed like they were trying to find ways to ruin it.

I’m so happy for Messi.
I always felt he was the greatest, regardless of WC, but now he cemented it.

Thank goodness those rude, classless French were dispatched in penalty kicks, yeah?

The greatest sporting event I have ever witnessed. It was Duke vs Kentucky 1992 on cocaine.

This dude is an absolute clown, but also arguably the most clutch goalie in international football.

Messi gets his. Mbappe already has one. Neymar is 30 and likely has 2026 as his last crack at one. Neymar is going to be the obvious media whipping boy now that Messi has shut everyone up.

Absolutely enormous pressure.

When it went to PKs, knowing what I've seen of Lloris and what I've seen of Martinez, France didn't have much of a chance.

Even on all of Mbappe's makes, Martinez guessed right on two of the three and got fingertips on two of them.

The most incredible WC finals and just a feel good ending for Messi. I was rooting a little for Messi and every time I thought they'd won it, they found a way to make it closer.

The French have to be at all time lows tonight...so close.

I wouldn’t too feel bad for Les Bleus. They’re young and so much more talented than everyone else that they’ll be favored to win the next to cups at least.

That was my thought going into it, too.

Their U21 squad is pretty stacked. They have players all over Europe that didn't even make the squad. Even without Benzema and a couple of others injured they were on the cusp of winning it.

Mbappe is 23. He's already got one WC and might want to go for Pele's 3. There is a lot for him and for the others to play for Internationally.

Qatar and FIFA: No rainbow armbands.

Also Qatar and FIFA: Messi has to wear this black night gown with gold trim for the biggest moment of his life because it's tradition.

Messi needs to put that up for auction, & some billionaire Qatari will buy it for millions, then Messi should donate the proceeds to gay or women’s rights…

It felt like sportswashing. Big time. Not like the obvious financial shenanigans happening at the club level, but let's have this iconic image seared into history for all to see even though it probably isn't the most appropriate time for it. Messi took that garment off as soon as he possibly could.

Between the owners of PSG and being part of the Saudi bid for 2030; Messi isn’t exactly discerning about from where the dollars are coming (as long as they can be shielded from taxes)

You do realize that Messi had no knowledge of the taxes. His father and lawyers were the ones who did it.
At the sentencing he told the judge he had no knowledge, that he left all that up to his lawyers. He was 22 when it originally happened it was $4 million out of $120 million he was paid, that went to his account to be handled by his father & lawyer.
The judge literally told him he believed him, & the evidence showed that to be true. But legally he is automatically responsible because it’s his money.
And nothing happened to him except paying the money back.
The original prosecutor dismissed the case because his investigation showed Messi had no knowledge. But a special prosecutor then filed the charge later saying Messi is still liable despite not knowing.

But I can see you have a bias and don’t care about the facts of what actually happened?

And Messi has donated over $100 million to various charities in his time, & he is only 35.

If anything prevents it, it’ll be their defense.

Still world beaters but it is their weakest link.

Ha. the tax thing should have been in italics. Don’t need to rile up someone who goes by Reaper.

As far as centerbacks go, they sould be fine.

Saliba and Konate could eventually be their center half pairing if they continue to develop at Arsenal and Liverpool. They have to overtake Kounde and Upamencano. Hernandez, who was injured, is 26. There's Disasi too. Varane is 29. I don't know if he's back in 2026. Badiashile, Kalulu, Simakan and Lukeba are all on the current U21 team.

Squad right now is avg 26 years old and all three keepers probably skew that. No idea what is really in the pipeline there. Fullback situation, also couldn't say.

I read recently that Pavard is acting a fool:

"

[Romain Molina] While on the bench, Benjamin Pavard has been making 'inappropriate' remarks about his teammates, especially in the final, where the situation escalated and there were 'big words' between him and the coach. Pavard's attitude created a toxic atmosphere internally"

Mbappe put a hat trick past this idiot and made his PK in the shootout.

Grown ass man acting like a toddler.

Mbappe is currently the best in the world and might go down as the GOAT when it's all said and done.

He should probably hope that they don't play in 3.5 years because France will be better than this year. Not sure you can say the same about Argentina.

He isn’t currently the best in the world.
Do you watch him on PSG?

He doesn’t do anything near good enough at the club level to be the goat.
People watch him once every four years go up against mediocre to bad defenses at the WC & think he is the best.
Yet when he gets back to his club & plays against all good to great players he is not producing.
He has zero Champions Leagues, zero ballon d’Or’s, despite playing for the only elite team in France League 1.

He hasn’t even put up elite numbers against weak competition in his club career.
Just like C. Ronaldo, he scored a lot of international goals off PK’s.

I need to see A LOT more from him at the club level to even say he is in the top 5 playing right now.
Playing on LOADED French teams isn’t doing it for me.
He needs to win Trebles.
