Wow, those values seem generally high. 85M for Bobby Firmino?? I love that as a LFC fan but I never would have expected him to be worth more than Coutinho. 85M seems high anyway. I might have expected his valuation to be in the 60M range. But I don't follow this stuff especially closely.

I tend to agree, the numbers seem quite inflated. At the same time, who really know how much the fees are going to go up especially with all the EPL money just now starting to fill teams' coffers.

Stadium is gonna be so dope if they get the MLS bid. But that's also having faith that they actually want to build this, and aren't just using snazzy renderings to get people excited. (My inside sources say this is actually what the stadium would look like; ownership took a trip to Europe last year for a bunch of meetings with European clubs, getting inspiration for club-building and architecture. They're serious about this look, modeled after Allianz.)

Most of the renderings show the stadium on the banks of the Ohio River in Newport, Kentucky, with Cincinnati across the river and forming a backdrop to the open end of the stadium where they'll have berm seating. I think that's awesome. Many Cincy residents do NOT think that's awesome. They'd rather have it squeezed into the actual city limits in some less-than-ideal locations. I understand wanting to keep FC Cincy IN Cincy, though. And ownership is working to make that happen. Newport is just the trump card, an option that they are guaranteed to secure if Cincy build sites fall through/don't generate support.

I hope the stadium has panoramic views of the Florence Y'all Water Tower. Looks cool all the same

Nah, that's about 10-12 mins up the highway to Florence.

Though the Ya'll water tower was turned into a mascot for a local minor-league team:

Also, anyone familiar with I-71 geography between Cincy and Columbus would appreciate the unofficial match name for the Open Cup match between Cincy and Columbus tonight: The Hell Is Real Derby

Woot woot! 30,000+ were on hand to watch FC Cincinnati take down the Columbus Crew last night in the Open Cup. They had to open up the upper deck at Nippert, which is usually closed, and fans filled in around the banners that are up there.

The Crew went with a strong side, too, so it was a shocker. I think they had 8 of their regular starters on the field. The other 3 are on international duty.

Amazing night for soccer in Cincy, and got some SVP love, too:

Also, here's a nice shot of the winning goal and crowd reaction from the supporters' section:

3 MLS teams went down to lower league teams, MLS teams don't seem to take the Open Cup too seriously

It's definitely not taken very seriously currently... hoping that changes in the future... CONCACAF CL too... if they can both grow in TV rights/viewership I'm guessing that will push some of that.

Big Serie A news today. Gigio Donnarumma and his agent, Mino Raiola, just snubbed AC Milan and told them he will not be signing his contract extension. It has people up in arms, not because he wants to leave, but because he is an 18 year old kid that is biting the hand that made him. He is the next Buffon without a doubt, Milan basically developed him into the next great Italian goal keeper, and he is leaving because of the turbulent situation at the club right now. No one expected this.

With Raiola as his agent, is this really THAT surprising?

I'd sit his ass on the bench and not let him train. There is no reason he should think he's bigger than AC freakin Milan.

Yes and no... for a few reasons: 1. He's only a goalie, his max value can only be so high relative to Raiola's other clients.

2. Milan just got new owners who are fully committed to spend and rebuild the team. They will be back in CL in no time.

3. He claimed he wanted to be viewed as loyal and not a mercenary.

https://theplayerstribune.com/harry-arter-for-my-daughters/

99% of stuff written on the Player's Tribune is utter shite but this article by Harry Arter is amazing and a must read

Wow, what an amazing piece. I always liked Harry Arter. He's just the kind of gritty center midfielder I love to watch.

My wife is an obstetrician and from to time she has to help families through this sort of thing. It never gets easier; breaks her heart every single time. I can't imagine what it must be like for the families. Glad this story has a happy ending though, in a way. Congrats to him on his new baby daughter.

He's an amazing player and when he is fit is an automatic starter for Ireland. He's exactly the sort of player we need. Always speaks well and just has a different way of carrying himself that is different to the average EPL footballer.

Everton just spent 30 million sterling on a Sunderland goalie who isn't even that good.

His value is comparable to David De Gea right now, Man United would take him in a swap in a heart beat

Gigio is clearly the next big thing, so it makes sense that his value is climbing towards that of De Gea. I don't thing he's quite that high but he will be in another 2 or 3 years. Goalies tend to be able to play into their 40s so their value over time holds later into their career compared to other field positions. (I'm certain you know this already, I just wanted to bring it up for others reading.)

I use Transfermarkt.com when researching players and transfer market values. I have found them to be a reliable resource. Take a look when you get a chance, I think many on the thread will enjoy their material.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes 'irreversible' decision to quit Real Madrid after treatment by Spanish tax authorities | The Independent

News coming in this morning from Europe that Ronaldo has some major butt hurt feelings toward Spain at the moment. He is very upset at the tax evasion charges brough against him, and he is threatening that he wants to leave Real Madrid becasue of it.... to me this sound like him just being his usual diva self, but holy crap if he leaves this summer... that just stirs up everything even more than it already is. Man i love the summer transfer market drama. Its so much fun to sit back and watch.

What a bitch lol. Who here would be surprised if he's doing this to get Madrid to essentially pay for these fines?

"Extorted" is classic Deadspin.

The club is doing their due diligence to find the best home for a stadium should they get an MLS bid.

They want the stadium in the urban core of the city, so they're going to ask Cincy for help via tax breaks on infrastructure, which literally every business in the city gets when they build. If the city says, "no, sorry, we're tapped out, and we're not going to ask the public for funds," then the club will build across the river in Newport. As much as some residents of Cincy would shout against it, the river cities of NKY are part of the Cincinnati urban core.

Newport is the best option anyway lol. The open end of the stadium with the city squarely in view would be most dope. As would the supporter groups marching across the bridges.

Let the party start in Cincinnati and then watch the fans walk across the purple people bridge. That would be great to see.
