That's a topic,... who is your top ten... for me the top seven or so are in stone...

Hazard
Messi
Ronaldo
Suarez
Neuer
Robben
Aguero

the last three is where the debate begins imo...

Di Maria
Reus
Iniesta
Gotze
Zlatan
Muller
Neymar
Bale
Van Persie
Rodriguez
Lahm

maybe I'm forgetting some... but that's off the top of my head...

Hard to put Di Maria and Van Persie there after their last season. It is also hard to say where to put Neuer since he is a keeper.

My top 15 in order would have to be:

1. Ronaldo
2. Messi
3. Robben (healthy)
4. Bale
5. Suarez
6. Aguero
7. Ibrahimovic
8. Hazard
9. Neymar
10. Iniesta
11. Reus
12. Silva
13. Vidal (hate him, though)
14.Toni Kroos
15. James

Thiago Silva probably fits somewhere in there. Maybe Muller too.
Keepers in a separate category...

1. Neuer
2. Hart
3. Sirigu
4. Buffon (still)
5. Courtoius
6. Howard (no homer :) )

Top ten no real order
1. Messi
2. Cristiano Ronaldo
3. Suarez
4. Aguero
5. Hazard
6. David Silva
7. Neuer
8. Muller
9. Bale
10. Ibrahimovic
Honorable mention: Reus (May be a stretch, but I LOVE me some Marco Reus)

I like to put the keepers in there... makes it more interesting... Ozil is another name that hasn't been mentioned...

it's interesting how neither of us named a defender... are there really none worthy or to we just not value them?? I'd disagree with a number of the back end of your top 15 but that's the fun of it I suppose.

Reus is no stretch at all imo... he's def in the top 20 and can crack the top ten... Robben is still a beast imo.

Only guy not mentioned who might appear on my top 15 list is Alexis. The guy is just a dynamo up top.

Ronaldo

Neuer
Robben
Aguero

My last three would prob be

Iniesta
Reus
Bale

with Muller, Gotze , Zlatan and Neymar the next looking in, but obviously there is a lot of potential interchanging with guys.... Hart and Courtoius were good calls by 23 though, def ones I def overlooked when I first threw out names...

Just found out that Fox bought all the CCL rights... about time we can watch that on normal TV... now that there is some money and notoriety in it I wonder if MLS teams will start pushing more towards winning it... One would expect the MLS to compete more in CONCACAF as the league continues to grow anyway...

Brugge hanging in there, if they can escape with 2-1 you have to think they're feeling rather good

Hazard best player in the world? Or is that not in order?

He's def a name we forgot... Honestly, looking at my list, move Hazard down a few spots and I'm just about good... Maybe move Neuer up.

Memphis isn't there yet. He has yet to prove anything in the EPL, though he did look really good yesterday against Brugge. Time will tell with him. He has all the physical tools.

Nothing wrong with throwing his name out there, we've mentioned about thirty or so guys if I had to guess...

Thiago Silva probably fits somewhere in there. Maybe Muller too.

Great discussion guys. Few things, all my opinion of course:

• Iniesta is one of my all-time favorites, but he is not a top 10 player anymore. He was a top 3 player at one time, but at his age they already started limiting his minutes last year, and to be honest, Rakatic was the more important player for much of the year. He’s still flashes moments of absolute brilliance, but he just can’t do it consistently enough to be considered a top 10 player anymore.

• James Rodriguez needs to be way higher on any list. What he did in the World Cup, on the world’s biggest stage, was simply magical. And then, he was a force for Real, and they were the unquestioned top team in the world (and this is from a Barca fan) until he got hurt. His absence (along with Modric) just killlllled them. He is a phenom (sp) and is close to a top 5 player for me.

• Neymar needs to be in the top 5 as well, for me. Yes, he is a flopper and a whiner and he blew it at the Copa, but his skills are almost unparalleled, and he brings it in big games. He takes a back seat to Messi at Barca, but when Messi is out, he goes to work. And watch him play with Brazil, where he is the man and defenses are geared solely to stop him…he still is virtually unstoppable. And when he is out? Brazil, friggin’ BRAZIL, is impotent. If you put all biases aside and all (warranted) hatred aside, and just analyze his game and what he means to both Barca and Brazil, he’s clearly a top 5 player for me.

• ND23, buddy, how could you have Ronaldo ahead of Messi this year? Last year, maybe. But this year, and at this moment, there’s really no question who is better.

• My top 5 are Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Neymar, and I struggle with #5. Bale, but mentally he fell apart last year and was lost. Robben, but he gets hurt way too much. Ibra, but he’s getting up there in years and not quite as dominant. Hazard, disappears too often for top 5 status (but he’s close). Gun to my head, I go Fernando Torres because of the goal he scored vs. Germany that got Spain that first Euro 2008 championship and was one of the best sporting moments of my life. Haha, gun to my head I go James Rodriguez, but there are lots of guys you can make an argument for.

Iniesta is like the ultimate field general ever... he's got a spot in my top ten until always...

He reminds me so much of Scott Brown in one regard... their playing styles are so ugly (in varying ways) but effective and they are such irksome players but so good at what they do... totally the type that you hate to watch unless they are on your team... I have tons of respect for Iniesta though...

Yaya Toure, how could we have missed him till now. Definitely deserves at least a mention. When he is at his best he can completely control a game, and his finishing from 18-25 yards or so is exquisite. Laser precision.

When he is at his best, he is the best player in the world not named Messi. I saw him in person several times and man, what a player

You lost me at Alexis Sanchez (who I love btw) at #2.

And you haven't seen Iniesta play if you think he's he's been dead for 3 years. Massively gross overexaggeration. He's the guy who was starting over Sanchez in 2012 and 2013 if you forgot.

Silva has been much more productive than Ramsey, who I also like and can be really good when he's healthy, which he frequently isn't.

The problem is, he was god-awful and disinterested last year. These first 2 games? Ridiculously good...old school Yaya. But last year he was petulant, out of shape, and ambivalent.

If he plays like he's been playing the first 2 weeks, and allowing Silva to roam and do Silva things, he definitely belongs on that list, and Man City will take the league as well.

Maybe it would be of a little interest to hear an opinion from a guy who is just a sports fan, but total novice watching soccer: I've never seen anything like Messi --- nearly unbelievable skill to me. And I've never seen anyone seem to control the mid-area of the offense like Iniesta --- he's the sort of master controller type player [in any sport] that I most admire --- and who doesn't usually get the accolades.

Iniesta still creates chances on a regular basis. I haven't missed more than 1 or 2 Barca games in each of the past three years, and it is very clear that he has declined over that span, and may no longer be in the top 10 or 20 in the world, but he's still a tremendous playmaker.

Otherwise I don't watch BPL nearly as much as some of you but I think I would take Hazard over just about everyone else not named Messi (or Ronaldo, begrudgingly).

So far so good for Celtic... 1-0 early, easily could have been 2-0...
