Zelalem, similar to Green, needs to develop physically. Even just develop a little bit of strength and add a bit of speed, and both will be amazing for the USMNT. Zelalem has elite passing and vision, while Green has elite control and finishing ability.

I cannot wait to see those two in three years. They should be stronger, faster, and fully developed by then. USA could become one of those teams that other countries fear playing in the next few years

Thank You Juventus, thank you.

Yeah, that was awesome. Real is the easiest team to hate. Classy of Morata to refuse to celebrate, but it had to feel really good to stick it the club that didn't want him.

I am pumped for the final.

delighted for Buffon, hopefully he can finally get a CL winner's medal to complete his set.

From that article:

• Fifa spokesman Walter de Gregorio faced the press alone, and confirmed that congress, and the presidential election, are due to go ahead as planned, and that there was no question of restaging the votes for the World Cup hosting rights. He said Sepp Blatter was feeling “relaxed” about the day’s developments because he was “not involved in them at all”, before clarifying: “Well he is not dancing in his office. He is very calm, he is fully co-operative with everything. That’s what I meant. He’s not a happy man, saying wow wow.”

• De Gregorio concluded: “This for Fifa is good. It is not good in terms of image or reputation, but in terms of cleaning up, this is good … It is not a nice day, but it is also a good day. The process goes on and we are looking forward.”

I do hope this ends up being a good day for soccer. I have my doubts though - the corruption runs so deep and has been going on for so long it is ingrained into the organization.

i tuned into the presser and the host was a shitshow. the guy was like Comical Ali back in the Iraq War. 90% of the questions asked were by English journalists (or "Racists" as Blatter calls them) and they were sticking the knife in. It was glorious. Make no bones about it this is a GREAT day for world football.

I hope you are right. If Blatter somehow escapes this though...

Most assuredly. Hoping against hope that Blatter takes a fall, too.

Next stop: IOC HQ.

Warner and Webb are absolute mercenaries and Blazer is boil on the face of humanity if there ever was one. I'd expect they will implicate Blatter to save their own asses when the pressure is put on them. Their loyalty was bought with cash not integrity.

I think whether or not they nail him will depend on the level of his direct involvement in w/e malfeasance took place to get Qatar approved. He probably acted like a good gang boss and left that dirty shit to subordinates. You're right, tho', none of those assholes are going to take a fall for Blatter's sake.

Edit for clarity: the arrests are more related to CONCACAF but the Swiss are investigating the 2018 and 2022 host bids.

I hate the fact that this is America's greatest contribution to the sport.

Jackie Kucinich, senior politics editor for the Daily Beast, is drawing a line between Bill Clinton, Fifa and Qatar’s World Cup bid.

The Clinton global charity has received between $50,000 and $100,000 from soccer’s governing body and has partnered with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association on several occasions, according to donor listings on the foundation’s website.

...

When the U.S. lost the 2022 bid to Qatar, Clinton was rumored to be so upset he shattered a mirror.

But apparently Qatar tried to make it up to him.

The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, partnering with the State of Qatar, “committed to utilizing its research and development for sustainable infrastructure at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to improve food security in Qatar, the Middle East, and other arid and water-stressed regions throughout the world,” according to the Clinton Foundation website.

The cost of the two-year project is not listed on the Clinton Foundation website, but the Qatar 2022 committee gave the foundation between $250,000 and $500,000 in 2014 and the State of Qatar gave between $1 million and $5 million in previous, unspecified years.

MORE BREAKING NEWS - Sky are claiming that police have told ALL Swiss nationals working for Fifa - and that'll include Sepp Blatter - that they cannot leave the country!

Sepp IS next.

Honestly, right now I care more about not being able to see any US Open matches until the finals... I'd love for ANYONE, even Spanish channels, to carry the tourney the way the FA cup is covered in Britain.

ND23... are your Man City loyalties carrying over to NYCFC at all???

Also, has anyone here jumped on either new team's fan train??

Yeah I have watched every single NYCFC game and am actually going to one rather soon (haven't bought the tix yet but need to make it, its just an hour long train ride).

They are incredibly frustrating to watch because they can compete with every single team in this league. They absolutely dominated the Sounders much of the game a few weeks ago, but their back line is horrendous, and their finishing is a little cold. Lampard will give the team a real boost, and it looks like they are signing Oguchi Onyewu at CB which will help A LOT. I hope they use another DP signing on a good defender. Some names that have been thrown around are Dani Alves and Martin Demichellis. Definitely some growing pains, but I would not be surprised to see them get hot and manage to eek their way into the playoffs. When Lampard comes, the center mids will be him and Diskerud, and they will total boss. Villa is adjusting, but will get hot. Khiry Shelton, remember his name, he has a very promising future as a winger not just for NYCFC but the USMNT, too.

In conclusion, NYCFC is cold and has had some bad luck. A bad combo. They will get hot though, and when you throw in Lampard and having one of the best coaches in MLS, they may be able to turn the season around.
