Two reps in the first three posts... not bad...

Anyway, this is exactly why I can't stand Ronaldo...

They are starting to yellow card for diving, but it is absolutely atrocious the way they writhe on the ground trying to win a free kick or penalty.

What does everything think of:

1.) card the flops retroactively... if the camera shows you flopped and you didn't get popped then you can still get hit for future games...

2.) only card the really obviously fouls and let the rest go as the main reason players flop is they have come to expect a free kick any time anyone touches them... Red cards should be reserved for just crazy shite and prevention of clear breaks...

typically speaking...the amount of players that get the boot for simply comitting two 'fouls' is too high for my taste.

anyway, i have thought about this and my 'solution' changes with time... but this is easily my biggest beef with soccer... really, maybe my only one.

Does anyone else feel that the Euro fans simply don't look down on this as much as Americans do??? I feel that way at times.

It seems odd to card for diving, it is just going to create controversy. I think the only way to get them to stop and stop controversy is to have somebody replay it after the game and then suspend them or something that way. Not all who dive are fouled, but some are fouled and then you have people bitching about the foul or lack thereof, and more people bitching about the guy diving.

It is quite ridiculous though. That is why I never liked South American teams and really starting to dislike Spain and Portugal too.

1. I absolutely agree with #1, and there is a movement to do just that. But I won't be holding my breath for that unfortunately.

2. This one is harder b/c the refs' job is incredibly hard and sometimes you have to card a guy for continually fouling (but not necessarily for just one foul). The ref for the Great Britain game today friggin' sucked...should've kicked out one particular Senegalese player several times but didn't. I guess he agrees with your red card theory LOL.

I'm biased towards Spain, but I HATE the way Spain goes down too easily and/or writhes in pain after being fouled. But they were much better this Euro tourney, especially in the final. It was actually the Italians that were acting like pansies, which was ironic b/c that idiot knute_rockne (the banned poster, not the icon) was bragging about how the Italians didn't do that anymore LOL. So glad Spain kicked his team's arse in the final...not so much b/c we beat the Italians (who gained my respect this tourney) but because of that friggin idiot 'knute' and his mouth...

Can someone explain this Great Britain soccer team to me.

First of all shouldn't it be United Kingdom? Isn't Great Britain just the island with England, Wales, and Scotland? What about northern Ireland? Aren't they part of the same country? And why was England not UK for Euro 2012? So confused.

That gbr/sen game was a great watch IMO... I don't ever want to see someone get hurt... But I like the idea of having a little hockey/football with my soccer...

I thought I heard that Northern Ireland chose not to participate with team GB. Not sure if someone on the NI team would be good enough to make team GB either though...

NDLA I see you lurking, and I wanted to ask you if you knew anything about these guys Soccer Development Through Education — Someone posted a video of them on the LFC forums so I watched it and got interested. They had admittedly an all-star team, but they were playing tremendous pass and move footie at the U-11 age group. Let me dig up the vid quick and I'll post it. I subscribed to their blog and it's pretty interesting and also reassuring knowing we have guys like this molding our future at the youth level. Just thought you may have heard of them during your time in SoCal.

***Here is the promised video***

Absolutely amazing for a U-11, all-stars or not. They have no official affiliation with Barca. I'm kind of guessing some questions will be asked. They are sons of Argentine immigrants and they obviously love the game, and are trying to bring some flavor to the U.S. They go to Barca's coaching clinics once a year but Barca doesn't have anything official outside of Catalonia. They just have respect for their academy and setup.

wow, those u11's are friggin awesome.

USA vs Mexico tonight...

I am praying for any kind of result. You don't go to Azteca and win! It's pretty much our JV lineup plus Donovan, Howard, and Johnson(budding star) vs their JV lineup plus Chicharito

I honestly hope the SPL goes under very soon... the major teams would then surely get absorbed into the EPL/Championship (English soccer in general)...

Celtic would be a lower mid level first divison team right now,... but within ten years the EPL income upgrade, a world wide brand/fan base and a great park... I really feel Celtic would be easily up with the Spurs and Gunners of the world at worst.

Here's hoping something happens, I have seen talk of it being a possiblity, if even for only Celtic.

I always thought that would be in the best interest for everyone if clubs like Celtic and (god forbid your hated) Rangers went to the EPL. Swansea is a Welsh club in the EPL, so why not a couple Scottish teams?

FWIW.... I really like Geoff Cameron on defense. In our next world cup I would really like to see a back four of Bocanegra(if healthy, he will be 34 I believe), Cherundolo(same as Bocanegra), Cameron, and Johnson. If Castillo has perfomed very well as well, so if any of those guys can't go, he can easily fill in. In two years, there could be a stud defender we barely even know about, but if I had to guess who it would be Josh Gatt.

Pathetic half of soccer... But the fact its all square is a success. I really like Cameron on defense. Johnson and Castillo looked pretty good. I'm skeptical of Edu on the back line.

I want to see some Terrence Boyd this half and I want to beat this damn team.

Plain and simple, our midfield always needs to consist of Brek Shea. Whenever he is in the game, good things happen.

Mexico just messed up so badly. They showed that the US has a legit great centerback pairing with Edu & Cameron, they took away the psychological advantage of Azteca, and they just soured their gold medal.

It's amazing that Shea was able to do that considering he has been so bad this season.

I'm pumped my dude Boyd made a great play like that, especially after my favorite American player Torres crapped out in the first half.
