Also, I don't normally cheer for England, but man God Save the Kane when they play Mexico. Cheering for Mexican soccer is akin to cheering for USC or Michigan in CFB to me. Miss me with all that. I hope England boat races them in Azteca for 90 minutes.

I think soccer would be better if any part of your body is even with the defender, you’re onside. The fact that a defender can jump forward to put an offensive player offside is crap, IMO.
I think soccer would be better if they didn't have offsides at all. And to all the purist, save your time, I don't care that much. I'm only watching because of 'Merica & Mexico.

So with the USA team ranked 17th prior to the start of the WC I’ve enjoyed the wins and excitement they have brought us. But, this is where we should be. Now is where Poch. earns his $$ and the star players have to really step up. Especially with Balogun out!

I'm not a purist but wouldnt that just lead to everybody parking ass in front of the other team's net for ninety minutes?

Or throw a blue line in there halfway on each side and call it hockball. But seriously, Pele called for no offsides years ago. Ofcourse he was an offensive minded scorer!! lol

Lmao we posted the same thing simultaneously... it's seriously the easiest, simplest way to stop "cherry picking" while rewarding creative play

America has its warts, but this is a pretty badass (AI generated) video.

When we were in NYC this week, Panamanians literally took over Times Square one night. Tons of Croatians, English, Colombians, Scots. And everyone was just partying. Talking a little smack, but all in fun. It was awesome to just be in that environment. It made me proud to know that all these folks from abroad were having such an awesome time in our country. This World Cup has been incredible for a lot of reasons…but opening the doors to what the U.S. is *actually* like, might be the biggest.

I’ve been saying this forever,… the fix has always been did anything on, you’re on, not if your beard hair is off then no goal

Great stuff, the USA are safe and through now.
I was holding off on saying this but now they are safe...you fellas who don't think that tackle was a red card are mad - that was a sickening tackle. What was he thinking. Red all day unless I have no idea what you can get a red card for. Also I would have red carded the Bosnian coach remonstrating like a child - horrible look for the game.
Because it wasn't intentional, he was knocked off balance and had no opportunity to control where he landed.

The ref Claus was accused of match fixing from irregular red cards in 2023 in Brazil Series A. Was cleared of it but….

Scoring would go up if they got rid of offsides.

As someone that doesn't normally watch soccer, that red card seemed excessive. It looked like incidental contact. Seems like a yellow would have been more appropriate.

Scoring doesn’t need to go up. Part of what makes the game great is the anticipation and elation when the goals happen. Offsides is frustrating when it’s extremely close and I think there should be greater leeway but anything about fundamentally changing offsides would ruin the game.

I slept on it before commenting, but I'm still fuming about that red card. I've tried to find a reasonable explanation that would satiate my anger, but I haven't found one yet.

To the airline that would not let Mrs. Balogun fly back home to London when she was pregnant: thank you.

The referee, however, is a motherless prick.

Messi does the same thing and doesn't even get a yellow. There is bad refereeing and then there is openly trying to affect the outcome of a game AND the next one. The fact there is no appeal process for the WC, but there is for league play is beyond ridiculous. It literally gives refs free reign to adjust the outcome of any game they want. Technically, a ref could red card an entire team and there is nothing anyone can do about it. That is loophole that needs to be closed.

Ok, so I'm listening to Tom Rennie and Charlie Stillitano on the Football Show on sirius 157. I usually agree with their level headed takes and they are both stating the red was given appropriately. They are currently explaining why it was justified. Rennie called it a textbook serious foul play deserving a send off.

I think this may not have the effect the haters want it to have. The US can beat Belgium without Balogun. Hell, they scored on Bosnia with 10 guys. This team showed the one thing I wasn't sure they had, toughness. Now they are going to play as underdogs, angry at being screwed over by corrupt refs...in Seattle.

Oh, and if the win, they get a rested Balogun for the Quarterfinal game.

This is a great perspective. Pepi can slot in pretty seamlessly

They definitely can win. They also definitely are worse off without Balogun.
