Dan Ashworth is an England FA disciple. This absolutely has legs to it.

Klopp, Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim are all in title races right now. Klopp and Alonso are still in Europa League. Amorim's Sporting CP was just eliminated.

It's probably Alonso and it is likely all but done, but I think everyone is showing respect for these guys while they are still in the midst of their current seasons. If Fenway is bringing back their Moneyball front office, I would not sleep on them giving Amorim a serious look because he's an analytics guy who has done a lot with Sporting CP despite that club having major to moderate financial issues. Amorim is supposedly getting strong interest from Barcelona.

Still, take away the fact that Alonso played for the clubs he played for and was the player he was, he's regardless the hottest manager commodity in the world right now. Sounds like Bayern stepped in it too in their pursuit. Reports are when Liverpool reached out to Alonso's agent, the agent went to Leverkusen immediately to make them aware. The agent didn't reportedly do that with Bayern because of how they handled it, which considering they're competing for a title with Leverkusen, might have been on purpose but wasn't going to endear Alonso and his handlers either way.

Sebastian Hoeness at Stuttgart is another guy to keep an eye on. He's done a great job there with less resources than most. I doubt he's in play for Liverpool, Bayern or Barca though.

Alonso played for Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Two of these clubs are looking for 2024-25 managers and Leverkusen have yet to lose a match all season in any competition. Alonso's preference is reportedly Liverpool, but we'll see. Money talks.

Alonso played for Rafa Benitez, Manuel Pellegrini, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola as a player (Vincente del Bosque with Spain at the international level). That's actually a pretty incredible list of managers.

You look at where he played, who he played for and what he's doing right now with Leverkusen it's hard to imagine that there are surely others who have reached out to inquire. Even if you just ignore all of his history as a player, though, you look at what he's doing tactically with Leverkusen and he's the top guy out there right now. Amorim, Hoeness, DeZerbi are all up there too. Some pretty big clubs are looking for managers that we know of and by May/June we'll see what else opens up.

I'm interested to see if Graham Potter pops up again and obviously Jose Mourinho is available. De Rossi has Roma playing very well since they sacked Mourinho and they should be considering a threat in Europa League as well.

Inzaghi is doing quite well with Inter Milan right now but doesn't speak English which could make the Premier League a challenging move. Won't get a third straight Copa and was knocked out of Champions League but they're going to win the Scudetto. He's been linked to Chelsea, but I hope he's smart and takes a pass.

I think we as US soccer fans, overvalue our players relative to the rest of the world and even CONCACAF. Some of our core players can't even get on the field for their clubs. I'm still hopeful for 2026 but getting out of group stage would be a success.

I am inclined to agree with this.

That being said, Wright's first season in England is going pretty well for him. The Championship is a grind.

Yeah, Gio's attitude I think is questionable. My perception is he wants to be "the guy" on his club without putting in the work it takes to be "the guy". And I'd guess that shtick doesn't sit well in the locker room.

This may be true, but it's also true that the USMNT is more talented now than they've ever been, and thankfully, almost none of them have peaked yet. Probably more top end talent than Mexico, though Mexico is deeper when it starts coming to the B and C tiers. Fans think because the US has shiny UCL players now, the US should be a top 10 squad, but there's obviously a ways to go.

I disagree. The USMNT right now is the most talented it’s ever been. Especially compared to CONCACAF, the performance should be much better than consistently playing down to the opponents level.

Pulisic and McKennie are top contributors on top 3 Serie A teams. Antonee Robinson is one of the best players on a mid table premier league team, and The hype is starting to ferment as far as the big squads approaching to buy him this summer. All three of these guys are top 5 on their teams as far as average player rating match performance goes.

That’s the top end of our talent pool, but the rest of it is doing very well. Dest and Tillman being key members of one of the greatest performing Eredivision teams ever. Cardoso being an immediate difference maker at Betis. At least half a dozen defenders are starting for mid table teams or better in the top 5 leagues. The striker situation seems to flub no matter who we put there, but we have multiple guys making impacts for their teams.

All in all, this shouldn’t be a team needing a miracle own goal to advance past Jamaica who themselves are without their top talent.

A lot happening here most likely, but in the end he's probably betting on himself, and rightfully so. The job he's doing at Leverkusen is remarkable. Don Carlo due to leave Real Madrid June 2026. There is no reason to rush to Bayern or Liverpool for him because he used to play for them both and they both have openings right now. Looking down the road that Real Madrid job is going to be very attractive considering the young talent they've stockpiled and will continue to.

He's going to win the Bundesliga and is going for the Cup in addition to Europa. For now, the issue is put to rest and he can focus on the next couple of months.

I get that Real Madrid is a big deal and all, but how long would he even be there? 2-3 years before he gets canned or quits like everyone else does? They've had 9 managers in the last 15 years.
