Just embarrassing any way you want to slice it. Unprofessional.

I don't know if he's willing to or not, but Gio needs to ask his parents to take a few steps back as far as I'm concerned. US Soccer should probably also define and set parameters as well when it comes to parent involvement.

Claudio Reyna’s agent, Dan Segal, emailed a statement to The Athletic: “US Soccer is a small community. Anyone who knows the Reynas knows that they are kind, generous people who have devoted countless hours and energy to promoting US soccer and to the welfare of so many fellow players, parents, coaches, administrators and others. They are also a tremendously loving family that was profoundly impacted by the terrible loss of their eldest son Jack to cancer in 2012 at the age of 13.

Claudio and Danielle acknowledge that they have said and done things in the heat of the moment that they regret, particularly the statement that triggered the US Soccer investigation. Gio acknowledges that, like countless players before, he showed too much disappointment when not selected to play at the World Cup.

That is only part of the story here, but the only side of the story that the investigators chose to tell. It is disheartening and grossly unfair to see the family turned into one-dimensional caricatures to progress a narrative that benefits others. Hopefully, as a US soccer community we are better than that.”
This has no relevance to the situation at all.

Agreed. An out of left field attempt to justify, the fact that they seem like helicopter parents. Doubles as to soften the narrative towards the Renya's as well, but that isn't gonna work the damage is done.

The Renyas and Berhalthers are both pieces of work honestly. Easy to see why they were so friendly for so long. US Soccer would do well to put both of these folks behind them.

Berhalter comes out of this looking really good. His story adds up. He owned the situation as a college freshman, he owns it now and the investigation had him coming away as cooperative and warm in the eyes of the individuals who engaged with him.

Claudio Reyna comes off like an ass and Danielle Reyna changed her story the second time she told it.

From an optics standpoint, there is no both sides here. Berhalter, while his next move is uncertain, comes away looking far better in the report than the Reynas do regardless of everything else.

All this is true. It is great that he owns it and he and his wife were able to get past it, but he did it in the first place. Mistake happen and while I don't think that alone should have him removed from his post, that does lead me to the other reason. He is shit as a coach and player manager IMO.

I also don't for one second believe he thought that comment about Gio was/would be off the record. He knew (and was already) fielding questions around Gio's playing time, because the team was largely ineffective going forward. Also, something pretty common under his watch.

If the personal issues aren't enough, his performance as the manager should be IMO.

If we're holding people accountable for what they did as college freshman at age 18....three decades later, we're going to have a lot of people dropping off of the map in society. Not condoning it; however, there is context and those details came out in the investigation.

I'm not a Berhalter fan in the context of sports. In the context of human beings, he did a bad thing 31 years ago that was done and dusted. The Reynas brought it to the public as leverage in whatever this all is they've attempted to do and made themselves look even worse, which I actually find quite impressive. I'll carry a little water for the guy because in the end the Reynas took it nuclear and thought they were going to come away the "winners" of the situation. They lost. Big.

In hindsight, seeing what was happening behind the scenes and knowing his time was coming to an end anyway, Berhalter probably made the comment likely knowing full well the curtain would get pulled back on the Reynas. Mission accomplished. Now Berhalter is gone and US Soccer still has to deal with these idiots for the next 20 years.

Awesome upset last night as Violette AC of Haiti held on to knock Austin out of CCL. Circumstances surrounding it made the upset even more unprobable than it might sound on the surface...team playing in the DR due to violence at home, no domestic league games in several months, issues for some players entering the US for this second leg.... They had three subs, none of whom were GKs by trade.

Would have been less of an upset but Olimpia of Honduras were not able to hold on to their aggregate lead against Atlas of LigaMX, who advance to face the Union. My Philly Union and Man City advancing to champions league qfs on the same day....something I surely savored.

Hearing Andre Blake's injury is not as bad as once thought, giving the Union a chance in any given competition. As for City Gks......Ederson gotta chill. Struggling to see how we win three more rounds of this competition with him between the pipes.

They're going to win Serie A and have made the Champions League Round of 16. He's addressing what is surely his eventual departure that will occur in a matter of months.

Bizarre how they do things over there.

What part is bizarre? The transfer market?

He's discussing his future plans, which likely involve him leaving, as they're on the cusp of winning a league and have been playing as well as anyone in Champions League.

The open discussions these guys have with the media about leaving in the summer when it's mid March. There are soundbites and cliche answers for a reason.

Pulisic, who was a key player as the US reached the last 16 in Qatar, believes Berhalter is unlucky not to still be in post.

“I’m not here to appoint the next manager — it’s not my job — and whoever it is I’m going to play and give it 100 per cent,” Pulisic told ESPN.

“Everything that happened with Gregg, first of all, has been handled in an extremely childish manner. I think we’ve seen what’s been going on. I think it’s childish, it’s youth soccer, people complaining about playing time.

“I don’t want to go too far into that, but I think Gregg has been extremely unfortunate to get into the position he is in now.”
I think Pulisic is a stand up player and person. Captain material. Just needs to GTFO of Chelsea FC this summer.

In hindsight, they had the youngest team in Qatar and some injuries, plus all this Reyna horse shit going on in the background. Puts some things into perspective knowing what we didn't know then.

Reyna is going to have to overcome some things with his national teammates. Regardless of who the coach is.

Hard to imagine a lot of guys wanting to jump into this mess.

Ideally for me: Leicester, Everton and West Ham all go down. Up: Burnley (the Kompany version), Middlesbrough (for derby with Newcastle) and Blackburn (belong in the Prem).

Keep Sheffield, Norwich, West Brom and Watford down.

The 3-8 battle could start to get really interesting now too. Man United still putzing about in Europa League could keep things interesting.

He's right, but saying this publicly is fireable and he's probably lost his team now, if he hasn't already.

Nobody forced him to take that job, either. Conte had to have known what he was getting into just seeing what occurred with Pochettino and Mourinho. There just comes a point where you either say no and go for a better opportunity or you take the money knowing full well what you're walking into. Chelsea, same.

In both domestic cups so far, Manchester United have drawn all home fixtures in every single round of both competitions.

That's incredible good fortune. Any math people know what kind of odds this is?

And holy shit did Fulham implode. Three red cards in about a minute. Remarkable lack of poise.

Conte has reached, and I speak from tremendous experience here, peak Italian "I just don't give a fuck anymore."

This guy has willingly taken both the Chelsea and Tottenham jobs. Hard to feel bad for him, even if he's my people.
