2014 and winning MLS Cup every year doesn't seem that long ago... geez, Galaxy need to at least qualify for the playoffs this year.

UEFA, FIFA, the FA, and the Premier League have all now opened investigations into Manchester City for failure to comply with FFP regulations.

Massive fine coming. No point deduction. Nothing to see here.

The four teams that seem to have the FFP cloud hovering around them are Chelsea, PSG, City and AC Milan.

Real Madrid had some issues and caught a transfer ban.

Others might toe the line, but as it relates to FFP (see link above) these five are the ones that need to be the most careful.

It's more than fine to include City, especially if you know how FFP is supposed to work all that it entails.

Liverpool had a breach in 2015 and didn't get fined for it. I don't recall United having any issues, but that Alexis Sanchez transfer in my mind shows what a joke FFP really is.

As these rules are defined, there are five major clubs that seem to be at the center of where the issues are. City, Chelsea, PSG, AC Milan and Real to an extent. As others attempt to keep up, they're going to toe that line too.

It's amusing that while there are rumors of a UEFA transfer ban ready to come down on City, they are in the process of winning a Quad. Already League Cup Champions, they're in the semis of the FA Cup and the other three remaining teams can't possibly come near their quality. They're in the Final 8 of the Champions League and are considered a strong favorite there. Then they are two points behind Liverpool in the League with a match in hand.

They don't seem to be bothered by the off the field distractions.

That there is even a title race against this squad is rather impressive. Every week I'm amazed at their depth and quality.

Cincinnati showed out for their first home MLS match, both the supporters and the team.

Took down Portland 3-0, which included a casual back-heel goal which was fuckin' sweet, and the supporter march was deeeeeep.

Very cool Lion,... I saw the score and immediately thought of you and the fun you must have had.

I hope the new stadium isn’t a mistake and it has a similar feel/home field advantage. It’s a shame they couldn’t do what Portland did and just upgrade the unique/existing ground.

It's gonna be a bummer when they move. Nippert is amazing for both college football and soccer. It's like a fortress the way it sits below ground level and with the crowd sitting right over the action.

From what I was told, MLS's *stated* requirement for every team to have a soccer-specific stadium isn't really true, it's just a perception they put out there to keep the pressure on expansion teams to own all of their assets. The truth is that Cincy could have gotten away with staying at Nippert if the media market was bigger. Other expansion hopefuls have better media markets, but Garber and the MLS couldn't ignore Cincy's supporter culture... so, the trade-off was that Cincy HAD to own their own stadium, since the MLS was kind of relenting on one of their primary points in expansion consideration.

I think the new stadium will be nice, and it's actually in a really cool historical area of the city like Nippert is, but it won't be quite the same "packed in" feel that the campus at UC provides. But, Cincy hasn't had a pro team that has shown so much commitment to both being competitive AND taking care of their fans in a while, so people will continue to show up in droves as long as FCC's ownership keeps doing what they're doing.

Yeah, I get it’s league driven. Would have been cool to see another Providence Park instead of a more cookie cutter,... just me.

I’ll be following Cinncy tho, great story. Looking forward to going to a Locomotive game soon too,... they apparently are getting a new stadium in the coming years as well but for now will be sharing the very nice baseball park downtown.

Not gonna lie, having grown up in the Cincinnati soccer community, after running one of the indoor soccer complexes in town(at the detriment of my early married life), and coaching for Cincinnati United for years; I stood in front of the TV with tears in my eyes.

What a night...what a statement...Cincinnati is a soccer town...

Celtic is lucky Brendan Rodgers is gone. He sacked the Leicester recruiting staff as he did at Celtic.

He forced Liverpool's transfer committee to get Lallana, Benteke and Lovren for big money. Leicester should be concerned.

Luis Suarez made this guy.

Wow.

Yeah Rodgers is one of those guys who is a good coach, especially when it comes to developing young players, but not a great manager, to the extent that means making personnel decisions in the transfer market. Benteke and Lazar Markovic are the ones from his Liverpool days that are real headscratchers.

He had some questionable player decisions for sure... you should have seen the reaction to his departure though, it was ugly. I can't say I'm always proud of Scottish soccer fans, quite the opposite.

No connection to the match being mentioned, but I thought this was really good execution of a tweet:

Birmingham City is facing an immediate 9 point deduction for the pitch invader punching an Aston Villa player a few weeks ago.

They clearly don't have the lawyers PSG and Man City do.

This is one of those things that I've never really gotten behind in European soccer. I mean, I get punishment needs to happen, but I don't feel it's justifiable to hurt the team (hmm similar to NCAA punishments with vacated wins I guess, but still... not really). Honestly, how a person can even enter the pitch in today's world with enough security and such is baffling.

I think it sends a clear message. I applaud it. Sucks, but I find it more than justified. If one of your supporters strikes a player, make an example of him.

Giving the miscreant six months jail time and six months public service and $6000 fine would be a "good" solution, plus making sure that everyone knew that these punishments had happened. Then you could leave the Club alone.

Yeah, an example out of him. So how is it justifiable to the players to lose points? If you fined the club, I think that would be more appropriate than dropping points.

Puts pressure on supporters to not act like assholes and cost the team. A financial fine is a joke in this day and age. They're not enforcing FFP and should deduct points for that, quite frankly, but fining the club? Big deal. Even in Championship these teams have money. A real pay day is promotion to the Premier League. I doubt a supporter would want to have it hanging over their head they cost their team promotion. Maybe it will make people think. Maybe. I don't have much faith in the public thinking.

The Club should take any and all measures to prevent it from every happening again, too. This match in question was a Midlands Derby. They should have been on heightened alert to begin with.

The pitch is the one place where players should feel safe more than any other. Someone takes that away, make an example and make the consequences severe for the individual and the club. This guy was clearly a supporter. There was no doubt.

Make it very clear and defined moving forward, so there is no mistaking the consequences. I think 6 points in this situation is more than fair. 12 is overdoing it.

Points deductions are a total joke. The players have nothing to do with it and it taints the competition. Make the team play behind closed doors.
