After what was a disaster trying to order my new set of clubs, they have finally arrived!

What was not mentioned above (for anyone who cares) is that I took some time to work on my swing before officially ordering my clubs. Two minor tweaks to my swing and I've hit more sweet spots with more consistency than before allowing me to go ahead and feel comfortable ordering a combo set.

917 F2 15-degree (3 wood)
3i-4i: 718 AP3
5i: 718 AP2 bent one degree strong to blend the gap
6i-PW: 718 AP2
Vokey SM6 wedges: 50, 54, 58

Why no hybrids you may be wondering? Well 1) I can still hit a solid long iron and 2) the hybrids are expensive compared to a standard iron. So maybe in the future I'll upgrade. At my fitting session, I hit them almost identical.

What tweaks did I make? Better hand position (for keeping the face closed) and really worked on the forward lateral shift to start my downswing. In the past I kept too much weight on my back foot and tried to "help loft the ball." Those two things have made a giant difference in my ball striking and are allowing me to hit each club 10+ yards farther.

Ready for golf season!!

Oh yea, scored some Masters tickets this year too. CANNOT WAIT!

I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have fun.

Here I thought I was getting "serious" about my golf game targeting a 10 point HC drop this year (from 30 to 20). JFC you guys might as well be speaking Hindi.

Just got back from Augusta. WOW! What a beautiful place. Golfer's Disney Land paradise. Not a blade of grass out of place. So immaculate. Wish I could've stayed all week.

Yea, I've never been a big fan or Reed's, but him being a ND fan scored some points.

See if you can find the Patrick Reed episode of Feherty ondemand. They talk about his love for ND during the interview.

I like when pro athletes rep ND gear but it sucks cuz I cannot stand Patrick Reed. Reasons include him cheating in practice rounds in college, getting kicked off the Georgia golf team, him claiming he was a top 5 player when no one knew who he was (not saying that was the goal but claiming he was) Him and his wife having his parents escorted out of the 2014 US open when they came to see him play and accusing his sister of faking 2 separate kidney illnesses.

Don't forget he has a shady TUE to allow him to take a banned drug that improves concentration

So, anyone got any good drills for constant fat shots, be it with driver, woods, or any iron?

Played yesterday (albeit in 20+ mph winds), and scored really well, but it felt like every shot was fat. My driver was probably 30 yards shorter than last year. I got my club speed checked, and it's the same as last year (I'm around 124mph club head speed), but my RPM's on even my driver was up a ton. It's like I'm hitting straight down on the ball, or hitting the ground before contact. When I hit an iron flush, it went about the distance I was expecting, so it has to be something with my contact.

It was annoying because my short game was better than it has been in the last 10 years.

First off, 20 mph is a 2-3 club wind. It will kill your distance when hitting into that.

Second, it's hard to suggest anything without seeing your swing, BUT I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night and i'm golf obsessed soooo:

IRONS: I used to struggle with thin and fat shots. Turns out I wasn't transferring my weight properly making my arm slot very inconsistent through impact.

To solve this issue I started keeping my weight on my front leg during setup and try to keep it there throughout the swing. Your body's natural movement will still transfer some to the back during your swing, but it'll keep you from getting out of whack. I found that I did lose a little bit of distance at first, less than 10 yards, but you'll get consistent ball striking that will make it easier to choose a club.
Remember that iron divots should be after the ball.

DRIVER: You should be swinging up with this club unless it's windy and you want to hit low runners.
I have a little routine that puts me in the proper address every time:
-keep my feet together and center the ball on my belt buckle.
-turn your front/left foot out facing the ten o'clock position (i'm right handed)
-take your right leg and spread to your comfortable width/stance.
This should have your club lined up approximately 3-5 inches behind the ball.
-align your club at your belt buckle and aim for that spot, don't lean towards the ball. That puts impact at an upwards trajectory, just make sure you complete the follow through.

WOODS: I do the same thing for my woods except instead of setting up on my belt buckle I center it off my right foot. That way when I take my normal stance i'm only 1-2 inches behind the ball instead of the 3-5.

BTW: Nice swing speed. I'm in the 105-110 range depending on the temperature.

Yeah, 124mph would be in the top end of the PGA tour...only 18 players averaged above 120mph for 2017

I hadn’t gotten measured until last year when I was thinking about a new driver. I’ve always been quite a bit longer than most amateurs, but last year is when I started to come back to the pack. I think it’s more contact related than anything. It’s not surprising in the least to get to my drive and find it has spun back (I can’t spin a wedge, but I can a driver).

Yesterday was more gauges on where I was in relation to my playing competitors than the yardage I had in. I played with my typical weekend group, who I’m consistently 20+ yards longer than (all of us single digit handicaps). I was hitting my approach second, sometimes 10-15 yards behind the others.

It’s funny because I played really well in bad conditions (75) without the benefit of being longer than the guys I was playing with. Made me question my whole philosophy on golf (hit drive far, hope for the best from there).

I put a broken tee in the ground in front of the ball and aim at that during drills. Ignore the ball. Hit the tee. That forced me to lean more forward and take a divot after the ball. That drill alone practically eliminated hitting it fat.

I'll have to try that one!

So my clubs need replacing... I have a set of Nike SQ Machspeeds (4-AW) that have served me well for the last 8 years or so. The shaft/ferrules are coming apart from the hosel, so instead of getting them fixed,I'm going to get a new set.

I use a stiff shaft, and just love the look of AP2s. BleedBlueGold: How are your AP3/AP2 combo going? I'll be getting fitted, so we'll see what I end up with. I do like the M3s as well.

Anyone else with some input, I'll take it.

I love my set. Ultimately came down to a few things:

-I prefer the look, sound, and feel of the AP2 forged irons.
-I prefer the standard lofts on the AP2 irons.
-I clearly hit the AP3 long irons better than the AP2 long irons. They're more forgiving on miss-hits. And since feel typically isn't as important with long irons, I had no issue getting a 3i and 4i in them.

I actually just got back from the range, and every time I hit them, I gain more confidence that I made the right choice.

Good luck at your fitting. It was eye-opening for me. Fun and informative. I basically got a couple free lessons when I went. Couple of tweaks and a little practice went a long ways. I've gained an entire club in my long irons and almost two clubs in my short irons just from hitting the ball better.

Have had AP2s for nearly 7 years. Couldn't recommend them more. Super responsive; decent ability to shape shots; definitely not the most forgiving of clubs but if you're a decent ball-striker, they're hard to beat in my opinion.

Awesome. Definitely look forward to it then! I just need to hit the ball more consistent, and I think doing this will help since they'll be able to tell me where my mishits are and stuff. I won't say no to added distance, though I don't need it, just more accuracy.

The shot-shaping is no joke. I played hand-me-down Cobra Gravity Backs my whole life until my new Titleist set. I have a much easier time hitting and controlling a draw with the AP2s. Sometimes it's too easy and I overdo it.

You might really like the AP1 or AP3 then. My dispersion patterns were better with both as both are more forgiving on mishits. I personally didn't like the "chunky" look of the AP1 and I didn't like the weird lofts on the AP1 or AP3. I also just have a personal preference for forged irons.

I figure I'd end up with either one of those after a fitting... still want to try the AP2s anyway haha. It isn't like I don't strike the ball bad by any means, and I'm not one that hits chunks, flubs, and skulls regularly. I just can miss off the toe or slightly fat from time to time.

Sounds like my game.

Hit them all. Get the ones you like. I thought the Titleist guys were great. No pressure sales.

I'm headed to The Players on Saturday.

I'll report back.

Maybe a pic or two if I remember to charge and take my camera.
