I totally agree that this is the viewpoint of most people, but it's frustrating for me because I do want sports reporting that is basically just reporting, i.e., facts with some impartial analysis mixed in to help understand the context. I crave that, actually, and I really can't watch most sports programming any more. I am an outlier, I know, but I wish more networks would emulate NBC Sports, which I think does a great job, at least with ND football and hockey and soccer, of providing good, solid sports coverage without sensationalizing things and wallowing in hype.

Yes. The way they cover soccer is exactly the way I prefer my sports coverage. Is the growing popularity of the EPL in the US partially a result of the way NBC Sports covers the league? (YES)

I really like my fall Saturday routine of watching soccer and then watching college football games. I avoid Gameday unless they are at ND.

I hate the direction ESPN is going, but I only watch live sports events on their lineup anyway so it's not a huge deal to me. Hate that a lot of good reporters are losing jobs though.

Agreed to the bold. Very enjoyable Saturday's that way.

Trent Dilfer was absolutely awesome when he talked football. I'll miss him, Danny Kanell, and Ed Werder.

Looks like I might have to look elsewhere to get my sports fix

From a timing perspective why do this the day before one of your biggest broadcasts of the year? Why not wait until next week?

As long as Keith Law stays ESPN will continue to get an insider subscription from me, when/if he leaves I'm out.

Since you work there does John Skipper and his team not care that most sports fans are tired of the screaming and arguing format of their shows? That they want SPORTS covered and not some stupid political agenda?

I feel like Skipper and his group have no clue what the typical fan of ESPN wants. And maybe they don't care. ESPN has gone down the drain for the last 10 years it seems.

hence why espn is fooked.

1) Firing some of the decent journalists and leaving Stephen A Smith assures that I will continue to not watch ESPN.

2) As someone who cut DirecTv yesterday ($179 a month no more), I think cord cutting was 1/3 of the problem. I know fewer and fewer people paying the big bucks for cable. They said cutting ESPN would drop my bill ten bucks, so I'm wondering how many non-sports people are doing this?

3) Another 1/3 is the excessive price they paid for rights to show some of these games. This could be the bubble popping on professional sports and the constantly increasing prices of everything involved.

4) The other 1/3 is the people repulsed by the social activism and MSESPN feel it has acquired in recent years. I watched very little NFL last year because of the politics of the NFL and my ESPN viewership has pretty much consisted of gameday, NCAAF games of interest, and Mike & Mike.

I shake my head at the money being thrown around in sports today. It is totally unsustainable. This is just the first reaction to years of stupidity.

I still can't believe Kellerman was added to First Take. Watch how he covers and discusses boxing for HBO and then watch him turn into a completely different guy yelling across the table at Stephen A. on First Take. I wish ESPN would have a program where sports are discussed the way Kellerman and Jim Lampley discuss boxing. I'm so tired of manufactured drama on ESPN.

I haven't even watched Kellerman since he's moved up but just from the national blowups shared on twiitter and such and commercials, even I see this with Kellerman... it's crazy.

If people didn't like the Point/Counterpoint format (PTI excluded) and truly yearned for the ESPN of old, wouldn't ESPNews beat those shows head to head?
