Signing day coverage actually better than I remember it.

Arrow -- I bet in a couple years people will adjust and the ESP will be a bigger deal that people circle on their calendar.

I hope so. I enjoyed circling that first Tuesday/Wednesday of February on the calendar, turning on ESPNU, drinking coffee, and shooting the shit on here. I doubt the real NSD will have much hype now as most recruits will be signed beside a handful of them

Did DJ Brown end up signing wherever he was committed?

Or can we stop screwing around and get him on campus in January and end this DB run around we're getting.

anybody care to come up with/link a "best of what is left" for the 2018 class???

Is there a dead period now until the signing day in Feb??

Most of the complaints I've heard are from the media...because more work (imagine the media complaining about extra work). Their argument is there are too many other things going on in the world of sports, so it robs the kids of their "time." The reality is that most kids realize they don't need an actual day, all to themselves, especially when you consider "their time" is actually divvied up by roughly 800 other people and 40 schools getting the spotlight.

Saban has complained (and to be fair, some other coaches), but it's tough to take saban's complaints too seriously when he has an entire recruiting staff and support staff, second to none, that are there to handle exactly things like Signing Day.

The ESP, to me, seems like nothing but a benefit to the student-athletes, the people who are, ya know, supposed to benefit and be looked out for.

So the brief version of the above is screw the lazy media and screw the selfish, egomaniacal coaches.

Is there anything else worth checking on for ND today? Colorado commit staying with them, Irvin not signing, Gordon tomorrow announcement, Lenzy and Luke Jones, not sure their plans?

Lenzy is supposed to sign on the 22nd and the consensus right now is that it'll be ND.

I love this new ESP. Definitely helps ND, felt no anxiety for today, and am happy to see 20/20 signed.

Luke Jones will sign in February. So we still have him and NPF on the board.

Polian is great. As good of a guy as you can have in a recruiting coordinator role. Super sharp, great pedigree. Everything he says is smart.

Don’t think there’s anything more going on “in the world of sports” in the week before Christmas than there is the first week of February. If anything, there’s less, as you’re clear of the Super Bowl and all attendant hype. Also not sure how it’s more or less work for reporters than doing it all at once in February. Most kids signing today are longtime commits, and the drama kids still have time to drama, if they want.

I do think the early period magnifies the import of coaching changes re:recruiting. Even if all the jobs are settled now, schools are still hiring assistants and there just isn’t as much time to get comfortable with a new staff. But, maybe that rewards stability, which is not so bad, and reinforces notion of committing to the school, not the coach.

Biggest losers may be the HS all-star games. Early signees mean fewer hats on the table, and fewer eyeballs. But, whatever, we don’t win those kids anyway. Or they just move the games a few weeks earlier.

All in all, it seems like a positive development, for most recruits, and for Notre Dame especially.

Not sure if anyone noticed or not but in the actual live stream of the ND Signing Show (you can rewatch it as well), when they perform Shayne Simon's video, there is a spot in about half way through where they actually show Julius Irvin twirling a football, not Simon. In the WatchND release on youtube, they corrected it and showed a picture of a locker with Simon's name on it.

That makes all 20. I appreciate the drama free morning with all the commits, but I don't think I'm a huge fan of this early signing day. There was pretty much zero build up to this day; you pretty much woke up and said "oh hey, its early signing day today". Hopefully we can land Lenzy in a couple days and lets keep our fingers crossed for Irvin.

I'd rather have drama free with no build up and everyone ink early, then wait another 6 weeks to give guys a chance to look elsewhere once coaches are done with Bowl Practices from other teams. This doesn't need to be a production, needs to be efficient and it was.

Yes, Texas HS football championship games are this weekend. There has been some angst here locally that the ESP is somewhat disruptive to the high schools and also to the recruiters, but also a recognition that this is the new reality and ya gotta go with it. Could leave some teams in lurch with recruits still playing and not very accessible.
Looks like ND staff had this figured out and had their pieces in place, which is huge so they can now prepare for bowl, figure out plan to close 2018 recruiting, and get big jump on 2019 and 2020 recruiting.

What??

We go 20/20 on our commits, and we're complaining about it not being "dramatic" enough? LOL

In some parallel universe Deontay Greenberry would be in the ND record books right now...

Crusader is Polian confirmed.

OMG... I'M Brian Kelly.

Would have preferred to be Polian. Pick up the phone, ask Dad question, problem solved. It's cheating.
