Kamala Harris endorses one-time rival Joe Biden's White House bid
Trevor Hunnicutt

JACKSON, Miss. (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, a former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, on Sunday said she would endorse her one-time rival Joe Biden’s bid for the White House.

"I have decided that I am, with great enthusiasm, going to endorse Joe Biden for president of the United States," she said in a recorded message here on Twitter. "I really believe in him and I have known him for a long time."

Biden has been eager to capitalize on a string of wins in South Carolina and a set of states that voted last Tuesday, where was helped by the endorsements of one-time rivals Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar.

On Saturday in St. Louis, Biden thanked them and supporters of Harris, fueling speculation that the former Democratic presidential candidate may be about to endorse him.

“We’re going to unite this party and unite this country,” Biden said.

Biden has to win a primary against Bernie Sanders in order to be the Democratic nominee to face Donald Trump in the November presidential election. Democrats in Michigan, Missouri and four other places hold nominating contests on Tuesday.

Harris said she would campaign with Biden in Detroit, Michigan, on Monday.

Harris, a first-term senator for California and the state’s former attorney general, would have been the first woman and second black U.S. president.

She was considered a top-tier contender when she launched her quest for the presidency with a rally in Oakland that drew 20,000 people. She also drew attention for a clash with Biden in an early presidential debate. But her campaign ultimately struggled to build on early support and raise money.

Ruminating on possible VP choices just from the other candidates.

Bloomberg No. like Rockefellar he never wanted to be VP of anything

Sanders No Two old white guys.

Buttigieg No Young, well spoken But another white guy AND the Dems already have the Gay vote.

Yang Possible. Young high energy, bright, a better memory than Joe AND he adds diversity. Checks off another ethnic group.

Warren No Adds Gender balance but another old paleface in a state solid blue. Can she bring angry progressives to the voting booth. IF so move her to the possibles.

Klobuchar Possible Female a positive but another white paleface.

Gabbard Possible Gender a plus, military experience, still in the fight but a lightweight with Dem primary voters. Does she add to the ticket? Her state solid blue.

Harris Possible Female AA, Joe will do well with AAs but Trump expected to make some inroads. Harris could offset defections as well as appeal to women looking to raise the ceiling. Her state solid blue.

Hillary. No Dramatic effect but too polarizing. Has a lot of supporters but a lot of detractor. Too much baggage. Now if Joe was to agree to serve for a year or two then step down ...

From this bunch I'd lean Harris.

Prefer Yang; think Klobuchar. She has chance to help Biden take back the Great Lakes area.

Ultimately I don't think he needs help with LGBTQ+++++ or African Americans. He needs help with women, progressives, and swing states.

If you look at the below, who do you think helps most in each state?

Arizona: 11 electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in 10 of the last 11 elections.

Colorado: Nine electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in seven of the last 11 elections.

Florida: 29 electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in seven of the last 11 elections.

Georgia: 16 electora votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in eight of the last 11 elections.

Iowa: Six electoral votes. The state voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in six of the last 11 elections.

Michigan: 16 electoral votes. The state voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in six of the last 11 elections.

Minnesota: 10 electoral votes. The state voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in each of the last 11 elections.

Nevada: Six electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in six of the last 11 elections.

New Hampshire: Four electoral votes. The state voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in six of the last 11 elections.

North Carolina: 15 electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in nine of the last 10 elections.

Ohio: 18 electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in six of the last 11 elections.

Pennsylvania: 20 electoral votes. The state voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in seven of the last 11 elections.

Virginia: 13 electoral votes. The state voted for the Republican presidential nominee in eight of the last 11 elections.

Wisconsin: 10 electoral votes. The state voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in eight of the last 11 elections.

What are your top 3 policies, or stances of his?

1. He was responsible for everything Obama did
2. He'll beat Trump in a push-up contest
3. He'll take a chain to Kim Jong-un like he did to Corn Pop

The GOP is about to throw an AED on the Hunter narrative. This is to be expected since he sold access to US policy and his father to get himself rich and Joe Biden, the sitting VP, totally looked past this clear ethical boundary.

The media should have blown this up. The media should still discuss it. However, they won't. But the DNC is going to try and turn this full circle into a swiftboat attack on Trump's kids.

The problem? Which of Trump's kids is profiting from foreign governments? Also, the Trump kids are wandering the country, Hunter is in hiding after being targetted with paternity suits and bizarre private life.

Trumps campaign needs to let this parenting narrative come out in the open. Who can manage a family? Where's Hunter vs Trumps fairly well spoken kids is a good narrative for the GOP, if it doesn't get swift-boated by the left.

Today: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Donald Trump Jr. tells <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AxiosOnHBO?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AxiosOnHBO</a> he wants to debate Hunter Biden over who has benefited more financially from their father's government service. <a href="https://t.co/MMp6jnsd0E">https://t.co/MMp6jnsd0E</a></p>— Axios (@axios) <a href="https://twitter.com/axios/status/1236778269585879043?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 8, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Read a few reports earlier that suggest Biden wants to change things up at the next DNC debate. Wants to sit instead of stand, and a few other things. Bernie's camp leaked it to suggest it's health related lol.... I'm guessing his handlers are working overtime doing all they can to make him look his best, and limit the bad.

Bernie vs Biden March 15th should be entertaining though. Given the Super Thursday turnaround, you have to think Bernie will be out for blood and looking to right the ship. Now that the lens is focused on the two, wonder how the masses respond to Biden if he comes off as a senile tongue tied wreck on national TV.

A Biden vs Trump debate would be scary as hell for Biden's handlers. Like him or not, Trump is sharp and quick witted. I think he'd cause Biden to go into a complete gaffe meltdown.

I don't think it will matter what the rules of debate are. I have my doubts he can remember everything his coaches tell him. There's no way Biden won't be pulled into an unscripted response which will not be flattering.

Biden may just skip the next debate if he does well enough tomorrow. The machine is working overtime to drag him down after his big performance on Super Tuesday.

Biggest risk to Biden? Old people staying home from polling places because of the Coronavirus.

One of the all time debate demands was when Dick Cheney & John Edwards were discussing the ground rules for their upcoming VP debate. Cheney was adamant that they both be seated. He knew Edwards was a highly successful trial lawyer & very adept at working the jury (audience).

They were seated and Cheney crushed Edwards. It wasn’t all to do w/ sitting vs standing obviously but it neutered Edwards enough to get him off his game.

What are your top 3 policies, or stances of his?

I'm not a Biden "lover"... was not in my top tier of candidates from the initial field... but if what you're asking is contrast to Bernie:

1. No elimination of private insurance
2. No absurd student loan forgiveness plan
3. No "Green New Deal" absurdity that would likely tank the economy if it was even partially passed. Not to mention his Marxist dog whistles that are basically #EatTheRich

On student debt... saw a rundown of Trump's ideas. Getting rid of public service forgiveness entirely and replacing it with a 15 years of payments forgiveness across the board. Interesting...

So you like Joe because of what he won't do?

I don't like Joe, but it's because of what he will do:
1. Advocate for a public option that will eliminate my private insurance.
2. Use his office and appointments to infringe upon my 2A rights.
3. Fill his office with climate nuts who will use the administrative branch to over-regulate... again.
4. Demonstrate no ethical conscience with his son, Hunter.

Basically, Joe's a bum. If he does nothing it's shame on him. And his stances are so bad that if he does anything it's almost worse.

Yeah I'll take Trump, national strength, minorities prospering, and rights protected.

Whoever the dem nominee that has less of a chance against Trump, that's my guy.

So you like Joe because of what he won't do?.

What Biden won’t do is the entire basis of his appeal (to moderate Democrats and independent voters, not you, clearly).

He won’t do all the stupid, divisive and inflammatory things Trump does.
He won’t do socialism like Bernie
He won’t be as divisive a candidate as Hillary was, which means a lot of Dems think he’s their best chance to beat Trump.

That’s it. That’s why he’s winning. It’s not his policies but his personality, and probably a desire by a lot of people to have a boring and normal president again. I’m not a “Biden lover either, but I get it.

I'm talking about relative to other Democrat candidates, specifically Bernie. This is the Democratic Primary thread.

If you want to vote Republican because you're #MAGA or very Pro Choice or insert any other valid reason that's your prerogative.

Agree. Not sure it will be enough. I assume Trump will win and then people will tire of his schtick halfway through his 2nd term (the more moderate supporters). Even Republicans will start to distance themselves as lame duck Presidents offer very little. '24 should be even nuttier.

I don't think Trump's base will ever tire even in a lame duck situation. It's a pretty strong mix of folks that 1) hate DC, and 2) think the left has gone to far left.

The moderates and INDs maybe, but a lot of them are either 1 or 2 as well if not both. It will really be about the GOP candidate, and what platform and narrative they choose to run on.

I think it will be Haley like Lax. If she can tap into Trump's base while not being Trump like, she could be hard to beat.
