State College is also so damn isolated. Have to drive 3 hours through the mountains to either Philly or Pittsburgh. They really should have put the school in Harrisburg.

Seider is from the Muck. Glades Central HS is no joke. He's a presence in Florida recruiting.

It's a pretty awesome hire on multiple levels, but I think this guy is going to be able to connect on the recruiting trail in places where maybe the door hasn't been as open in previous cycles.

Bobby Bowden built a powerhouse with these kids.

Would love to see ND start getting some of them.

PSU is a huge school in a tiny, rural town where the closest city is 2.5 hours away. You can't go to the grocery store or a restaurant without random people coming up and talking to you. If it's a down year, your kids hear it at school. Your wife probably feels isolated with no family or friends around.

Coaches and their families who are in LA, Seattle, Dallas, Miami, etc. don't have to deal with that stuff for the most part.
Ahh yes, I'm sure that dynamic never happens in South Bend.

I spent extended time in State College for many years. It's an awesome town IMO.

Growing up in Pittsburgh, A lot of my friends and family went to PSU. I agree, it's an awesome town and I always secretly rooted for them as how could you not want them to beat UM, OSU and more recently USC and Oregon.

Re: Living in Happy Valley.

Hard Pass

It's a cool college town but it's truly in the middle of nowhere and not easy to get in and out of.

That kind of place just isn't for everyone.

With the amount of hand wringing that goes on around here when assistant coaches leave the program, if a relationship with PARKER of all people delivers this RB Coach hire to replace DMc, that's absolutely hilarious. What a start to the calendar year.

Just brilliant on all levels.

Would much rather be 30 minutes away from Elkhart

So is paying recruits. But it’s happening
Paying coaches 7 figures and paying recruits is not kinda dumb. It's the free market. You pay the going rates or you lose the coaches and players.

Paying so much just shows that college football today rakes in tons of money to the universities. And the reason for this is that people pay big bucks to see players play. So, why in the world would players, and coaches, not get their fair share of the pie?

Apparently we kicked the tires on Alford first
Seider > Alford IMO

As much as I like Alford, I can't help but think our RB room got a lot better once he was gone. Didn't he bring in both FLA boys in Folston (he was okay) and Greg Bryant (RIP) both were supposed to be pretty good and neither really lived up to the hype. His best player at OSU had to be Dobbins, who was amazing for sure. But other than that, I can't think of anyone else that makes me think....DAMN, dude is amazing. Could be missing someone, but if the best he has out of ND/OSU and MICH is Dobbins in that 15 year stretch....Kinda gives me MEH vibes.

nah...ND is paying for a premium recruiter, too.

I have no idea how ND manages coaching/recruiting responsibilities, but it seems like paying top dollar for awesome position coach recruiters, could allow the OC/DC to watch more film. On the surface, I think it's a sound strategy.

He’ll almost certainly have a title besides RBs Coach

IMO...awesome town if you're a student there. Then everyone graduates and goes far away because... there's nothing there other than the school. I've been to a few white out games and it's freakin incredible, but outside of those 6 home games a year there aint much to talk about. Maybe a plus if you're a big college wrestling fan?

It's very easy to see why a married couple with kids wouldn't want to live there as a first option.

I'm sure State College is a lovely place to live but yeah I could see how being a football coach there might make you feel like you live in a fishbowl.
Yes that could happen in South Bend too, but South Bend's substantially bigger and frankly most people who live in South Bend aren't all that connected to Notre Dame (and if they are they probably work there, so, less likely to fanboy an assistant coach at the supermarket). It's not the same dynamic as a very small town with a huge state school

Then, why isn't Mickens getting that? (Caveat: I know this could be in the works, but not much coming out about him right now other than his name being on other team's target list)

It's only dumb if that's all you're getting for your money. If you hire someone knowing they're a top RB coach, top recruiter and someone who has collaborated on offensive game plans with many creative minds, you know he'll have a hand in shaping the team from multiple aspects and it could be money very-well spent.

What if his recruiting chops produce us an add'l top 100 player every year? I don't know if that's shooting too high or too low but he has been recognized by multiple outlets as a premier recruiter. With the NIL landscape leveling out over the coming year(s), recruiting/relationship-building will continue to be a different maker in tight recruiting battles.
