People either seem to love it or not. Ever been to LSU? Just curious how the area is.

I have not. I've heard its a good time though (whatever that means).

I personally liked South Bend even outside of the campus. Close enough to some cities if I want to go, far enough they will leave me alone.

There is opportunities to sell it to folks but some are going to hate it and there ain't much ND can do about that lol.

Baton Rouge is alright. Great food. Cool downtown area but the area you want to be in is pretty small.

The campus is kind of sprawling like most state schools. Very cool architecture. It doesn’t have the historic, striking feel of ND though that’s for sure. But I like it a lot.

I can’t imagine him or his wife getting swayed by the towns or campuses though. This is a temporary stop for him. It’s all about what gives him the best shot at a good head coach job sooner than later.

If that’s the case ND may have an edge. Our last coordinator went from unknown asst to HC right quick.

True, although that means he has tough shoes to follow. He’d be following a train wreck at LSU which may enable him to shine. Definitely two very distinct choices. I say he goes SEC.

Yes and no. Bo was there only one year. If he improves on that but fails to match Aranada, it won't look so good.

I guess I didn't realize how much LSU paid Bo Pelini. 2.3M this past season. They'll probably be willing to pay Freeman more than that. We'll see if ND is willing to make it competitive.

They on the hook for another year? Usually two year contracts for assistants, correct?

Reports were that his buyout was 5.2M. However, the athletic department said they settled for less. Unsure how much less. And, unsure if I believe that or if it was just for optics. They're going to lose $80M this year

And staring at the theat of litigation on their titleIX investigations and settlements. On the other hand, Auburn just literally passed away damn near 40 to 50m to get a rather ho hum hire.

ND and Bk won't even release specific terms of his extension that involve program upgrades while the SEC is just burning cash in the face of the pandemic. It's a completely different game that ND is playing.

Is the fact that they won't release the terms really indicative of anything? If Alabama didn't have to disclose wouldn't they keep stuff like that under wraps too?

Not that I disagree. ND should be spending 5x in football as we do.

I would think program upgrades, whatever they may be, would be something worth talking about. It’s a selling point in recruiting both recruits but potential staff.

I am not so sure. The administration knows they have potential candidates on staff who could get paid less. If I am trying to save money, which if I am ND I am not lol, I would give a max limit and tell Kelly to work with that.

Is Freeman a DC candidate?

Yes.

Interesting that Freeman was on campus already. I thought 247 had reported it was going to be Monday? If true, I wonder what spurred the change to yesterday? They also reported there were about six schools interested in him, but they felt he wouldn't leave his current position, so who knows how "in the know" they really are on this?

This is where ND screws up if it's true he was on campus. The moment he gets on campus if you believe he's your guy, you do everything you can to make sure he doesn't leave without signing a contract. Unfortunately, as mentioned above we don't have the administration to back up paying assistants what they need or believe they need.

Was it the ND 247 guys saying that?

If so, their source is probably one of the UC 247 guys, who is a major UC fan boy, sometimes to a fault. He usually doesn't let it affect his reporting and projections, but sometimes it creeps in there.

I think his initial 'reporting' on Freeman's status was affected by his own wishful thinking that Freeman would stay, but he's also self-aware enough to word it so that he can cover his bases and say "it wasn't reporting, it was just speculation" down the road.

His tone was already kind of changing on Twitter last night when he got scooped about Freeman already being at ND, so we'll see what the UC side says over the next few days.

And also that fact that he turned down DC jobs in recent history such as MSU to stay at Cinci. I think the narrative became that he's too close to Fickell when in reality MSU is a fucking dumpster fire.

But if you tell them and don’t follow through then that spreads within the recruits.

There is such thing as a UC fan boy? What a disappointing journey through life.

In sports terms, its about as heart-breaking as it gets. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and usually at the worst possible time.

It's actually eerily-similar to being an ND sports fan, to be honest, at least for those of us born after '88.

Seems quite unlikely it wouldn’t make its way out. One of the sites would get wind of it from a parent, kid, coach, etc. If ND is correctly marketing this to prospective recruits, 100+ kids, it’s going to make it out to the public.

And, at the small chance it is true. Hey, we’re going to do some cool stuff that we’re ashamed of so don’t tell anyone. Something tells me that won’t have be as effective. Young people want other people to see the cool stuff they’re doing. That’s what social media is all about, literally. Got to own it in social media and let the world do some marketing for you.

I'd agree. Obviously there are a lot of logistics that we arent privvy too. ND likes to make there "splashes" it seems so could just be preparing for the right moment, perhaps once he has his staff locked down? Or if some of the upgrades are construction-type, they could be making sure they have bid selection before announcing anything.
