First of all Dayne didn't win by default, if you think any of our back ups was up for the challenge then you know nothing about college football.
Thats what he means by "default". There was not any QB competition, Dayne was all we had.
He might not be playing as good as we expected but to step into that role and learn everything from scratch is no easy task. Maybe there will be a change next year but for now stop knocking the guy, it's not like he wants to play bad.
He started off right where everyone thought he would, but has hit a slump in his progression, and had a huge set back against Navy. His problem his not physical, but mental. Time will show if the kids resilient or not.
Noone is saying he's playing bad on purpose, and "stop knocking the guy"? It's football, and its Notre Dame. If you aren't performing up to expectations, then you shouldn't be playing. I'm sure he's a great kid,and trying, but that has no bearing on whether or not he should be starting. In a job, if you aren't performing, then you aren't going to have your job very long, regardless of if you're trying.
It's real easy to criticize someone from your couch or typing on your computer, I still have hope that things will all come together for him and he'll be the QB that we expected him to be, but if not I trust the coaches to put the best player on the field next year.
