Not even surprised. And nothing will happen, because any administrator that tries to do anything will be labeled a "racist."

The Dartmouth Review » Eyes Wide Open at the Protest

Perhaps a more reliable source...at least one close to the school. Still a very conservative paper however.

From 3 days ago, different school-tied paper:

Students stage a protest in solidarity with Missouri and Yale, drawing both support and controversy | The Dartmouth

Part of article pertaining to particular incident mentioned in OP:
Some students who were at the library at the time said they felt uncomfortable with the disruption caused by the protest. Some of the demonstrators called out specific students who were studying for not standing up and joining the protest or not wearing black. One student said at one point he was concerned over the possibility of violence, while another said that he called Safety and Security because he was annoyed by the disruption.

Diakanwa said that while he saw “a lot of passion and emotions from both sides,” he did not think the situation would ever escalate to violence. If it did, he said, the appropriate authorities would have been contacted to maintain and control the situation.

A member of the Class of 2017 who requested anonymity for fear of being targeted said that he did not want to be near the protest, but walked through the crowd of demonstrators when they were on First-Floor Berry in order to check out books. He said that after bumping into a demonstrator, she called him a “racist, privileged a–hole,” and as he was leaving another student told him to “go to hell” because he was not wearing black.

Sam Kater ’17 was in Novack at the time of the protest. Kater said that he saw the demonstrating students come down the stairs and enter the study space, chanting “If we can’t study, you can’t study.”

Kater said that he saw one exchange between a female student and the demonstrators that might have been more aggressive, but he was out of earshot.

“There was definitely nothing hostile,” he said of what he observed.

Lucas Ribeiro ’19 was in a Berry study room at the time of the demonstration. The demonstrating students told him to come out of his study room and join them, Ribeiro said. “It’s my choice to join,” he said.

Ribeiro said that he agreed with the students’ message, but he could not support their method.

“You lose the argument as soon as you start yelling and swearing at people,” he said. “You’re not going to win.”

Before I say what I want to say, someone answer these two questions:

1) Does the video actually confirm what the article said was happening? I watched the whole thing (only once) and didn't hear anyone being called white *expletives*.

2) If not, I'm not ready to trust whatever website that was with its account of the story. I would need some sort of confirmation from a reputable source. (Beau that link is broken)

The video alone is disturbing but doesn't quite rise to the level I would think even deserves its own thread. It's basically a lot of disrespectful protesters.

This is really NOT going to help the BLM movement garner support and empathy:

Not content to merely demonstrate there for the night, the band descended from their high-water mark to march into Baker-Berry Library.

“F*** you, you filthy white f***s!” “F*** you and your comfort!” “F*** you, you racist s***!”

These shouted epithets were the first indication that many students had of the coming storm. The sign-wielding, obscenity-shouting protesters proceeded through the usually quiet backwaters of the library.

Students who refused to listen to or join their outbursts were shouted down. “Stand the f*** up!” “You filthy racist white piece of s***!” Men and women alike were pushed and shoved by the group. “If we can’t have it, shut it down!” they cried. Another woman was pinned to a wall by protesters who unleashed their insults, shouting “filthy white b****!” in her face.

The Dart Review site kinda blows. It's constantly up and down currently. Check the second source I provided. It's the most trustworthy source here probably, although the creation of the Dart Review would suggest that The Dartmouth itself is a bit left-leaning. Either way, The Dartmouth is a more respectable source.

Beau's link worked for me, the second time I tried it. And it not only corroborates what the first article said......... it goes even further, and more disgusting!

Yea I read the second link. I'd like to see a national outlet pick this up because its almost too crazy to believe based on the sources we have so far.

Same type of people who were on twitter saying that the media was happy for Paris so they could sweep the BLM under the rug.
Or comparing what happened at Mizzou to what happened in Paris.

Do they realize that as students at a Ivy League school whether on their own dime or someone else's they have already experienced more privilege than most ever will in their lives?

I understand any concern over most of the sources, but The Dartmouth is regarded as the oldest college newspaper in America. They would likely present the facts better and have better information than most national outlets.

While true, that still doesn't give the right for a person to verbally abuse another for studying in a library. I'm OK with the black lives matter movement and understand it over the all lives matter movement, but you cant do stuff that this article alleges and expect people to support you. Yes, your voice will be heard, but you don't want to alienate potential allies on your way there.

They made it clear with the entering chant that contrary to Dr. King's dream they judge people by the color of their skin.

Come on man. It's perfectly fine in this country for a mob of black people to shout obscenities at white people. No media outlet is going to say a word. It's just a minority standing up for their rights....

So, it's "Black Privilege"? I say that somewhat in jest, but the irony of the situation is thick.

yeah yeah yeah, the hippie just has to weigh in on this.

You're damn right white privilege is real.

There's been 400-500 years of fucked up behavior leveled at black people. Now we have a year or two of black folks getting mad, white people are FREAKING OUT.

That's white privilege.

Let another hippie weigh in. While there have been 400-500 years of bad behavior towards blacks, the strides made in the last 50 years have been tremendous. Given they now enjoy and receive the same opportunities as others (voting, education, etc.), shouldn't they conduct themselves in a similar fashion? You catch more fly's with honey than you do with vinegar.

It's funny how we are so worried about over-generalizing in eveything, yet we'll lump together all white people (British lords and Irish potato farmers) into one big, fat, menacing group when we are talking about "white privilege."

So now poor Londoners, Irish subsitence farmers, russian peasants, rural French Catholics, Serbians Christians, and everyone else is partly guilty for Spanish and English slavery, the Jim Crow south, and the oppression of people they never even saw, had absolutely no connection with, and profitted nothing from.

Personally, I think its all about a divide and conquer mentality. Some people benefit greatly from keeping white and blacks constantly at odds.

Let another hippie weigh in. While there have been 400-500 years of bad behavior towards blacks, the strides made in the last 50 years have been tremendous. Yes, but this is not at all what they are taught. This group is taught, for reasons that benefit their teachers/supporters, that it is of the utmost importance thaty they perpetually dwell on the past and maximize every present grievance. It's hard to fault those who buy in, since they are taught this so consistently by people in the most respected positions.

Just go look at the reactions to Paris: Mizzou protesters, Black Lives Matter complain Paris attacks stole their headlines - Washington Times

When your family gets to America in the 20th century, fleeing political oppression from other white people, lived dirt poor in NYC, and you have to hear about the evil things they've been doing to blacks throughout history...

Do I know you lol? You just described my life (although I lived an hour north of NYC).

Not only did my family get here in the 1970s but my ancestors were enslaved until about 1832.

Not saying blacks shouldn't be pissed off, but they shouldn't be pissed off at me.

The United States is less than 240 years old. How far back should we go, when taking responsibility for past transgressions?

What about the years of GOOD behavior leveled at black people?

The Underground Railroad of the late 1800s.
John Brown's raid.
William Lewis Moore.
Reverend Bruce Klunder.
Andrew Goodman and Michael Henry Scwerner.

I'm sure there are more examples, but I am on my way out the door...

What the hell does what happened in 1790 have to do with what's going on today? My great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather might have been a wall-builder, prisoner, merchant, rapist, or baker. That doesn't have shit to do with my life.
