Glass found in his sandwich...if someone told me my life depended on guessing correctly, I don't think it'd take but 1-2 seconds to say "INTENTIONAL".

True story:

When I was in the Navy, I had to do 2 weeks of Mess Cranking Duty. Which is working in the galley (Or the Mess Hall for those who are unfamiliar with the term). I worked in the Bake Shop, but a buddy of mine worked in the regular kitchen, making whatever the entrée was for the night. Well, he came into the Bake Shop one night and told me NOT to eat any of the chili that night.

It turns out, they were mixing the chili in these giant stainless steel containers that resemble mixing bowls (that are 36 inches across, at the top). They were using ketchup as part of the base for the chili. They ran out of giant tubs of ketchup, so they were emptying bottles into the mix. They would shake the bottle side to side, to help the ketchup pour out a little faster. One guy knocked the neck of the bottle against the side of the container and the whole neck of the bottle shattered, sending glass down into the chili. They notified one of the regular cooks, who told them to scrape the top 2 inches off of the chili and then continue on....

DAMN...

first it was an accident, then it was intentional...I think it is hard to get glass in food where no one knows it is there or potentially there.

California police officer shot at after traffic collision | Reuters

Jul 24, 2016 10:53am EDT

A Northern California police officer was shot at while sitting inside a patrol car after a traffic accident, police said on Sunday.

The Oakland Police Department supervisor, who was not injured, was responding to a call at about 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, the department said in a statement.

"Shortly after the (traffic) collision, a male suspect approached the supervisor’s vehicle and fired a round striking the patrol vehicle," the department said.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Police are searching for the shooting suspect.

The incident came hours after the burial of one of three Baton Rouge police officers fatally shot by a black former Marine from Kansas City, Missouri, who police say intended to kill as many officers as possible in retaliation for police violence against black men.

The shootings were the latest in a series that have sparked debate over policing and minorities in the United States.

Dallas police job applications surge after fatal ambush attacks | Reuters

The Dallas Police Department, which was struggling to recruit officers, has seen a surge in job applications after the ambush shooting this month that killed five officers and brought global attention to the Texas city, officials said on Friday.

During the 12 days following the July 7 shooting, the department said it got 467 job applications, a 344 percent increase compared with the 136 in a similar period in June.

That is an average of 38.9 requests per day to become a police recruit compared with an average of 11.3 submissions a day for 12 days in June.

In recent months, the police department has had to cancel academy classes because there were not enough applicants.

Potential officers in the north Texas region have often opted for departments in fast-growing cities surrounding Dallas where starting pay is typically higher than in Dallas.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown put out the call for new recruits at a news conference last week where he spoke of the deaths of five officers and the actions of others to save lives at a rally in the city in the incident that marked the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

"We are hiring. Get out of that protest line and put an application in," Brown said.

U.S. police forces have been the target of protests following the fatal shootings of black men by patrolmen in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and outside St. Paul, Minnesota, that were caught on video.

Further, the series of high-profile police killings of black men in the past two years have sparked the most intense debate on race and justice in America in years.

"It's a shame it took a tragedy to get people to apply, but glad to see so many people willing to serve their community," Dallas resident Ben Shaw wrote on the department's Facebook page on Friday.

Shut up Jordan. Guy was a hell of a player but pretty much every ounce of publicity the guy has received since his playing days has screamed total jackoff of a human being.

Did you actually read the article or just the headline?

I mean, he basically said there are valid complaints on both sides but the over the top hyperbole and violence has got to stop and it's a two way thing... at least that's my take... couldn't have asked for more from a public figure that most everyone would stop and listen to.

New York City police upgrade gear after Texas, Louisiana shootings | Reuters
Jul 25, 2016 10:42pm EDT

The New York City Police Department has acquired $7 million in military-style protective equipment for patrol officers in response to recent shooting attacks on police in Baton Rouge and Dallas earlier this month, officials said on Monday.

"You name it, we're buying it," Police Commissioner William Bratton told a news conference. "There's not a police department in America that is spending as much money, as much thought and interest on this issue of officer safety."

Bratton said the NYPD has purchased 20,000 military-style helmets, 6,000 heavy duty bullet-proof vests, trauma kits and ballistic doors and windows for patrol cars.

He said the new bullet-proof vests are capable of stopping rounds fired from the type of weapon used in the Baton Rouge shooting that killed three officers and the Dallas shooting that left five officers dead and seven wounded.

"Obviously all over the country people have been deeply trouble by the attack on our officers," added Mayor Bill de Blasio. "We made this decision quickly in light of the challenges we face."

Special units are already equipped with protective gear like the upgraded equipment. Because patrol officers are likely to respond to active shooting situations, they will begin carrying the new equipment starting in September, according to police officials.

In recent weeks, major police departments across the country have been implementing new patrol tactics for officers in the wake of racial tension plaguing various cities.

Nearly half of the police departments in the 30 biggest U.S. cities issued directives after the Dallas attack requiring patrol officers to pair up while on duty.

I think the point is that the media is partially at fault for causing these deaths (both by enflaming blacks and causing resentment among whites).

This all started because of Ferguson and a complete lie ("Hands Up"). The media took the lie and ran with it because it was a racy story (no pun intended).

I'd say it started with Trayvon Martin and Georgie boy being reported as white and Obama's my son comments. Ferguson was just gasoline on a smoldering fire at that point.
Which I still say Trayvon was a typical 17 year old male being creeped out by a weirdo and said I'm gonna teach him a lesson.
Of course I also think the prosecutor over charged the case and started the slow burn.
Any manslaughter charge and George would have been found guilty.

John Smith, a black cab driver, was beaten by police over a traffic accident or drinking incident in Newark NJ on July 12, 1967 ... 49 years ago.

He was dragged into the Central Ward precinct by 2 cops and rumors quickly spread that he was killed by police. He was NOT.

A crowd gathered, rocks were thrown, cars vandalized, and 5 days of rioting. I was taking a night class a couple blocks away when all hell broke loose. I lived about two blocks in the opposite direction in the Central Ward. The white Mayor, Hugh Addanizio, I think it was, asked for help and NJ Governor sent in State Police and National Guard. It was gasoline added to the fire. Neither group had riot training.

There were snipers but also incidents of guardsmen shooting back in response to a gunshot believed to have come from the building only to have the gunfire returned by guardsman on the other side of the building. One guardsman had his M14 taken from him and sent home as he had used up all his ammo in something like 30 minutes. There were jeeps with 50 caliber machine guns at intersections. Fires and looting were rampant. Fire department refused to fight fires after a fireman was shot and killed.

In all 26 died over 700 injured and blocks burned that weren't rebuilt for decades. The next mayor was black and I believe all have been since. The makeup of the police force changed over the years but the complaints of police brutality and mistrust by the largely minority city persist.

I'm sure Jon Smith in 1967 was not the first. There were riots over mistreatment in Oklahoma 4 or 5 decades before Newark.

Chicago Race Riot of 1919:
The red summer in Chicago

Images

THE CHICAGO RACE RIOT OF 1919
In this fraught atmosphere, the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan organization revived its violent activities in the South, including 64 lynchings in 1918 and 83 in 1919. In the summer of 1919, race riots would break out in Washington, D.C.; Knoxville, Tennessee; Longview, Texas; Phillips County, Arkansas; Omaha, Nebraska and–most dramatically–Chicago. The city’s African-American population had increased from 44,000 in 1909 to more than 100,000 as of 1919. Competition for jobs in the city’s stockyards was particularly intense, pitting African Americans against whites (both native-born and immigrants). Tensions ran highest on the city’s South Side, where the great majority of black residents lived, many of them in old, dilapidated housing and without adequate services.

Of course, few - if any - of the rioters had guns. Some may have returned from WWI to poor job opportunities and overt violent racism.
