A LOT of this is parent-driven. It's normal kids going through phases, acting weird (as all kids do at times), or being encouraged to be part of the new trend getting so much attention, and then parents pushing their child in that direction for their own need for attention. It's somewhat similar to Munchausen syndrome by proxy, where a parent creates phony medical issues in order to get attention and be the "heroic caregiver" at the center of it all. And it's almost always a neurotic mom with issues, using the kid as a pawn in it all. Same with this current trend of parents pushing gender reassignment surgery and hormone therapy on their very young child. It's not about the child. It's almost ALWAYS about the neurotic mom.
