Greinke had a crazy 40 inning shut out streak right?

Yep. 45 innings. And he's having a ridiculous year.

Arrieta has around a 0.40 ERA in his last 12 starts. 11-0 with 4 earned runs in 89.1 innings. Unreal.

There's every reason to think that Fowler will get better down the stretch. He's about 60 points below his career OBP leading into the year and has his best career splits numbers in August. Stats tend to regress to the mean and he's well below his career mean on OBP and OPS. He also looks to be seeing the ball well right now.

I'm also optimistic about Castro. He's a mess right now, but he's a career .280 hitter (including this year's .244). I'd guess that he'll find his way to .270 with 65-70 RBIs or so. That's not bad for a SS who hits in the 6 or 7 hole. We've been waiting for him to become a middle of the line up guy. He's not. But his Offensive WAR has always been very good. Now his defense...

Just want to toot my own horn.

Fowler has gotten his OBP within 15-20 of his career average. His OPS is a lot closer to his career average.

Castro is currently .269 with 69 RBIs.

Arrieta has to be the Cy Young. He's closed the ERA gap on Greinke to .09 (1.77 to 1.68) and to .011 on WHIP (.865 to .854). He pretty much leads in every other category.

20 consecutive quality starts, a 16-1 record and .86 ERA in that time.

Greinke is the Cy Young in nearly any other year. Not this year.

I'll add to that, that since the All-Star break, his second half ERA is 0.75......and if I saw correctly on ESPN, is the lowest in MLB history. He's been lights out since June, really. My wife and I were at the game last Sunday night and he was just dominant against the Bucs. The hit he gave up, was a pitch a foot off of the plate, and the hitter just slapped at the pitch.

Good luck tonight Cubs

Hope you go deep in playoffs - for the excitement of the curse/back to future references - think Cubs are the one team who create the biggest buzz/interest as the go (if they do it tonight)

We are every bit as good as the Pirates. It all comes down to execution on the field. Go Cubs Go!

HUGE night in Chicago: Hawks are raising another banner, and everyone will be tuned in due to nothing else being on.

*I kid, I kid. Good luck Cubs.

Cubs have a huge pitching advantage, just like last year, poor Pirates, Pittsburgh deserves better, but at least we will see the Cubs back in a playoff series...

Interesting lineup tonight. Weird to see both teams using their respective lineups for the first time all season.

I'm so glad that the Cubs won the world series last night. oh wait, it was just a game to get into the playoffs? Never would have been able to tell from most of the fans and media.

They beat, arguably, the best team in baseball and their ace on the road in a crazy playoff atmosphere. Let the fans celebrate; they have suffered for a long time.

It just sucks that the three best teams in the MLB are in the same division and its even worse that the probably the best two teams in baseball are facing off in the NLDS

It was the 1st playoff win in 12 years from a team that won 61 games 3 seasons ago. Of course there is going to be a celebration.

Just watch the celebration that occurs when we beat the red turds.

I can't wait until the Cubs beat the Cards!

The further they advance the more delicious the inevitable collapse will be.

Are all Sox fans taking the stance of a spurned ex GF?

Unfortunately most of us are. We got our trophy, it's the Cubbies turn now.

My northsider friends have earned it. They've had to sit quietly for a decade as I talk about what it's like to be the World Champs and it's my wish that they get to enjoy the same feeling soon. It was better than Super Bowl XX, it was better than the '88 Fiesta Bowl, it was better than all 6 Bulls championships combined, it was better than any of the Stanley Cups.

I'm kind of excited to see the world implode when they finally win it. It's the last great story in sports to be told.

It might not be this year but it is coming. Theo, Maddon, the roster, Rickett's checkbook and next years pitching staff will get it done by 2017. Bet the house on it.

Best of luck to all of you guys!

After last night, I have a feeling the Cards win it, but the Cubs have made tremendous strides this year. They just need a much better BP.

They would have won 100 this year if their BP were better, maybe even the NL Central.

you may need to wait another 100 years...Cards may sweep!

I just wish my Blues could get past the blackhawks in the playoffs...

If Cubs take the game today I bet they take the series. Arrieta on Monday could be pivotal if they can split on the road

Huge win tonight. Jake and Lester at home should be tough outs. Let's go CUBS!

Never now how things will shake out but I feel like the Cubbies will be relaxed with Jake on the mound and hopefully get a win. Also Lester has been very solid lately so could end up real nice, 3-1 Cubs series win. My only beef with Lester is his insistence on Ross catching him. Lester had the 12th worst run support in all the majors. The big reason in my opinion is with Ross and him in the 8 and 9 holes its like were playing with 7 batters and two automatic outs. They are scoring opportunity killers, big time. Hopefully it won't matter as I am sure Joe won't make a change at this point in the season, but man oh man those two are really bad for a lineup.
