Marmol has cost us so many games. I can't understand how he is still the closer. If he can't be traded he needs to be sent down to the minors. The guy has filthy stuff but currently has zero confidence in himself. He knows when he goes in that something bad is going to happen. Can't have a guy like that on your pitching staff.

The funny thing is that the Nationals, who have had their closer on the DL all season, have 4 relievers who are all markedly better than Marmol. Clippard, Stammen, Rodriguez, Burnett are all head and shoulders better than Marmol... with Lidge and Storen on the DL. How is it remotely possible that he is the best closer the Cubs can have if the freaking Nationals can have 6 guys better than him on their roster? Hopefully Epstein gets that ship turned around.

Lidge is terrible. ND guy and helped win us a WS but he just isn't good anymore.

Don't be mad because you're 9-16.It's understandable with the Cubbies. At least your team isn't getting your hopes up and then blaming not getting to the world series on a dork in glasses....

25 games into a 162 game season...

Slow your roll son, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

I'm not mad. I actually thought we were having a clever bit of banter. And I was at the game when Farnsworth kicked the crap out of your starting pitcher. That was kind of a fun day to be wearing a Cubs hat in Cincy.

I do mourn the fact that Dusty blew out Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. He abused them that year.

My bad...I misread it and thought you were talking trash about Cueto...I have absolutely ZERO problem with you talking trash about Baker however...he is a joke.

We're cool.

Dusty is a fine manager with veterans. Lots of success. But, he doesn't develop youth and doesn't know how to handle arms.

The problem with Marmol is that when he's on, he has some of the filthiest "stuff" out there. The reason this is a problem is because he only shows this occassionally, just enough that makes the Cubs not want to give up on him. I've finally reached the point where it's time to move on. Trade him to anyone at this point. He's cost the cubs several games already that we had in the bag and it's only one month into the season. Even when he manages to get the save, he still manages to walk the bases loaded. Time to cut bait.

I think the staff needs to build this team around LaHair, Castro, Barney, and the Shark. These are your young guys that get us wins and we need to keep adding youth and pitching to this team.

We also have a guy named Brett Jacksonwho plays center field down in AAA Iowa who can come up and play right away

LaHair is going to have to learn another position. The front office is in love with Anthony Rizzo. It is just a matter of time until he is called up.

LaHair is hitting .384 with 8 HRs and a 1.243 OPS. He's not going anywhere any time soon. I'm sure Rizzo can play right field.

I am not saying trade him, and right field is the toughest position to play at Wrigley field doubt we throw a first baseman out there. If anything I would put him in left and sit Soriano's sorry arse.

Granted in AAA, Rizzo is hitting .356 with 10 hr 33 rbi and 1.081 ops. Not exactly a guy you keep in the minors.

So one of them is going to to have to learn something other than first.

For some reason the team refuses to sit Soriano so right field is the only option. If one of them can't convert then one of them has to go.

Well if they do trade I hope its for a closer. I think Dempster does too :D

Kerry Wood set to retire after next outing. It seems like only yesterday he was striking out 20 Astros as a rookie.

Impressive stat - Among pitchers with at least 1,000 innings, Kerry Wood is one of three in MLB history whose strikeouts per nine innings was 10.0 or higher. He ranks second behind Randy Johnson with 10.3 strikeouts per 9 innings.
Chicago Cubs' Kerry Wood retiring, source says - ESPN Chicago

Just made his last appearance. Struck out the only batter he faced and left to a standing ovation.

I'll never forget his 20 punchout game. His breaker looked like a whiffle ball. Wish he could've stayed healthy

Only good video I could find. Most dominating pitching performance I've ever seen. If only he could have stayed healthy. Gonna miss Woody, class act. Great Cub.

Wood was the most prolific youngster I had ever seen.

And like a flash, he was gone.

And then back again.

My late grandpa certainly loved that appearance.

Im sure he closed up the clouds for this Phillies series...

Lol.

But he's enjoying "dem birds" series. ;)

Still remember watching the 20 strikeout game. Such a shame what happened to him and Prior. I'll miss the dude for sure. One of my all time favorite Cubs.
