I think he’s a pretty good coach, as was BK.

But the fact he/ESPN thought he’s the level of coach that deserved a Lebron-like “decision” is weird to me. He’s never even made it to the CFP yet lol.
Don't blame ESPN, blame the brain-dead viewers who turn into their BS programming outside of live football broadcasts.

This is really the same rationale LSU used with BK. Its just NIL now compared to academic restrictions.

In the end, it boils down to culture within the program. We will see if the culture Lane is able to produce will be as effective as guys like Kirby, Day, Lanning, Freeman, etc.
I think the biggest challenge for Lane in order to take the step leap and actually put together a real contender (Ole Miss was not winning 4 playoff games with the #52 defense in the nation) is to actually build a physical, violent culture, build the trenches, and give a single shit about defense. Their best win this year was against OU, OU's offense is #54 in the country so they weren't able to capitalize on OM's egregiously bad defense.

He reminds me of Lincoln Riley in a lot of ways. Kiffin is the genre of head coach that focuses on having and developing strong QBs but really treats the rest of the team like a bunch of NPCs.

The other thing with Kiffin is adversity. I'm not sure how well he handles it personally nor whether he's the "steady hand on the tiller" when the program hits the rocks.

According to someone I know, Lincoln Riley was supposedly in Happy Valley yesterday. It seems like PSU just keeps taking their shot or Kraft is interviewing everyone.

I will say ole miss put the timeline on him. He was willing to coach it out.

If they want to play mandate deadlines and process why wouldn't he start work at his next job?
I mean he's already shown he'll blow it up at UT.
Then the fact the next month would be a LSU commercial even though he's still coaching Ole Miss and I get the thought process.

Yeah, to me Lane insisting on coaching in the playoffs was mostly driven by him wanting the extra time to recruit players and coaches to follow him. I'm sure there was a part of him that also wanted to "see it through," but Lane is always thinking first and foremost about Lane.

Saw an article that Denbrock is being considered for the Michigan Stare job. He was a GA there in 88/89 and is from MI. I wouldn’t mind him moving on. In 25 years of assistant coaching he had great gifts at LSU for a year and a wealth of riches here at ND. He was an upgrade to Porker who sucked and probably a lateral move from Rees. Would take Charlie Weis Jr in a snap. Would make the second LSU OC we snaked. Lane can’t get mad since he is always jilting his bosses. I’m still mad for Denbrock blowing the Miami game.

They're hiring Pat Fitzgerald

I assume you are talking about Fitzgerald's OC at MSU?

I don’t understand the obsession with people hating Denbrock, by almost all metrics this team had a top 20 offense in all of college football and averaged around 40 points. You guys want to replace that?
Yes, I am available and it would be a mistake to miss the artificial window for my signing.

Putting aside the optics, I think people are also forgetting that Joey Freshwater tried the "I'll do my current job and my next one at the same time" routine when he was the OC at Bama and it did not go well. He was routinely late for meetings and distracted, and that was just to be HC at FAU. The likelihood of him and his staff being able to adequately do the job in Oxford while also being the HC and staff at LSU is less than zero.

You're either in or you're out. Saban told him the same thing years ago. And just like years ago, that Heaux told everyone he's out. So there's the door.

Neither do I, and yes, they do want to replace him because they're idiots.

Maybe your pal has great secret sources but I’d think that if Lincoln Riley really flew to Penn State to interview for their job yesterday, his hire would be all but announced by now.

I don’t. He’s got some stubborn things that I hate, but I genuinely wouldn’t trade him and what I know he can do with this roster for any OC and what they *might* do in the country.

Anyone who says he should get the boot inarguably doesn’t know ball.

It was all about money. I'm sure his contract had bonuses for playing and winning playoff games. Same for the SEC. That's why he was dragging his feet to see if Ole Miss made the championship game before "deciding".

In looking at the coaching carousel this year we should all be thankful to have a top tier coach in Marcus Freeman. All these schools are having a hard time hiring anyone of merit because there just aren’t that many good coaches out there. Lane Kiffen is the best out there this cycle? Florida and PSU are just guessing at this point and schools like MSU and UK will be getting scraps.

He's still going to get his playoff bonuses lol. Jimmy Sexton is basically the devil.

On3 writer on Freeman from this morning "It’s unlikely that he will end up at Penn State, but Pat Kraft will keep making that call."

@EvilleIrish - does it get tiring to constantly just puke out negative shit? Just constant bitching and moaning, holy hell.

Easy now, some people will accuse you of being "insecure" for not wanting to rehash the same negative talking points everyday.

He had them competing most of the season but losing 41-0 to a dinged up Louisville team their rival is just inexcusable. Feels like the players were laying down so he would get the boot. Why does a midland coach like Stoops warrant a $36m payout?! Why does these tier two level coaches even secure a buyout in their contracts? They would be taking these jobs without the buyouts as they don’t have others beating down the doors to get to them.
