PSU’s 247 guy is saying that Rhule is the most consistent name coming up so far
Don’t see Rhule being any better than Franklin. Can’t see paying out $49 million to just go after Rhule. Surely Penn St already has their coach identified and are confident they can get him. If not, then they deserve what they get.

What slam-dunk better hire is out there for them? They're not getting Freeman or Elko or Cristobal or Lanning.
Rhule's a pretty good coach and most importantly is not James Franklin. This reads mostly like Penn State deciding they need a fresh start after 10 years, and ripping off the band-aid. Not firing him because they're bad and need a true upgrade.

I don’t see how you raise $50M in a week to hire Matt Rhule. Like thinking about how fast this came together, I think you’d either (a) have to have a verbal commitment from a bigger name (like Cig) or (b) commit to going all out for a top 10 coach in the sport. How else could you justify the firing + buyout to boosters?

Pretty sure Cig’s buyout is even bigger than that. It’s a $72m guaranteed contract if he makes the playoffs this year.

So Golden would 100% be the next HC if he would have stayed yes?

If I’m paying $49 million to get rid of Franklin and another $100 million for a new coach I darn sure want a coach who is a proven winner. Rhule may be best buds with the Penn St AD, but no way I stroke those checks. Money talks… make some of the big name guys say no.

I think A&M have successfully bought their way into being a job that’s on par, if not better, than PSU. Unless Elko just misses being in the NE, idk why he’d leave.

Cignetti or Mullen with a splash hire at GM would be my hire

None of these guys being mentioned are better than Franklin in a vacuum. Either Penn State poaches an elite coach or they just Nebraska'd themselves

Agree. If Penn State really just set $50M on fire to hire a non-rockstar, I would be surprised.
